Ethiopian food is fucking delicious. I haven't had it much at all but when i have it was amazing. The shit was perfectly spiced. They were scared to use spices and seasonings and different cooking methods, unlike fucking America.

I shared a house with a nigerian couple a years ago and something they cooked smelled so bad that I ended up moving. Permeated the building and actually made me gag. No idea what it was but they were boiling something in a big pan.

One thing ethnic places tend to need to do here to succeed is to hire young local women for waitstaff. The average Finn is going to be slightly perturbed by the mere presence of an ethnicky type in the same room.

Can’t say what Africans do around here, but the only native Black-American family businesses in metro Detroit are hair salons.
I remember reading an article in the Detroit Free Press where they pointed out that every immigrant group in Detroit starts out with small family businesses in the 1st generation, like restaurants and such, with the 2nd and 3rd generation using that as a kinda stepping stone to move up in American society with for example, Arabs owning literally every party store for miles around but Black-Americans abandoned the family business with the advent of LBJ’s “Great Society”.

I went to a Nigerian restaurant in Brooklyn about a year ago. I was always keen on exotic cuisines and new flavors, but that visit may have been a little bit too much. I had fresh ginger juice (idk what I thought I would get, it was literally a drink of grated ginger), which was very spicy. Then I had giant west African snails as an appetizer; I remember they were kinda tough, rubbery and flavorless, nothing like the French escargot. Then I had goat stewed in spicy tomato sauce, which was pretty good, but it was served with these two other weird sauces, both of which smelled really bad and tasted like a cross between smoked leaves and dried fishy, didn't go well with the goat at all. My companion had fried Nigerian donuts (which were good) and some type of strange slimy stew that looked unsettling, and smelled like dried fish also. The service took forever. The meal and the experience was a little bit too "authentic" for me so not doing Nigerian food anytime soon. Wanna try joloff rice though.
