Is it just me or does honey nut cheerios not taste as good since they went gluten free?

They always were gluten free because they're made from Oats, and oats don't contain gluten.
The only change has been the packaging.

When they went "whole grain" labelling might be when change was detected. They always used to advertise they were a low sugar and kind of healthy choice, and since people now read food labels, they probably knocked down the sugar or nut (fat) content a bit.
If you like that flavor profile, consider honey bunches of oats with almonds. Same sweetness, nuttiness, just without the oats. If you want some ultra-nutty also sweet-tasting alternative with oats instead, try expensive Cracklin Oat Bran, which is a heavy as shit box for the price. Also, there's a copycat to this cheerios in the Kashi/organic section, which might not care as much about low fat and low sugar, just the nutrition and could be old recipe. Pillows? Puffins? Penguins. Gorillas? I forget the name.

Could be. Price has skyrocketed.
