Anyone else do a grocery haul today? I go to different markets on different days, so I just thought I'd post today's edition, which is all from my local Japanese grocery store and Asian mega-store.

First pic - muh mini mooncakes for New Year (red bean, lotus, and date).

In this pic - UCC coffee packets, matcha, empty tea bags (for filling with tea leaves), one packet of Shin Black, wonton noodles, fresh ramen noodles, fried tofu, and yes, that is a durian in the back, wrapped in newspaper.

Let's see, here we have - wagyu eye of round, pea shoots, red spinach, beech mushrooms, baby bananas, and one ramune soda.

OP, are you asian? if not, stop appropriating muh culture desu.

Now we have a pic of what's mainly for dinner tonight.
Sashimi grade albacore (in the paper), yellowfin, salmon, and sea snail (I usually go get some fish for sashimi once a week or so)
Shiso leaves, radish shoots, wakame, baby octopus, udon noodles
>>
>>7330690
Who are you? The president of Asia?
>>
That's pretty much it.
There's a few things I forgot to include in the pics, but meh, they weren't that interesting. Just some sweet and salty rice crackers, napa cabbage, and lemons.

I'm going to go make dinner now, but I'll check back, maybe post a pic of everything sliced up, if I remember, IDK.
>>
Seems like a decent haul op, is all this from Ranch 99? Which mooncakes do you suggest? Which is the best filling? Lotus paste? Red bean paste etc.

Get out.
>>

hai, soo desu

>>7330716
weeb confirmed. goodnight.
>>
>>7330712
No not everything is from 99 Ranch, mainly just the new year stuff, the durian, the pea shoots, red spinach, baby bananas, fresh noodles, and fried tofu.
Everything else (like the japanese items and the fish and meat) is from the Japanese grocery store.

As far as the mooncakes go, I like the red bean and the date best, but the lotus isn't bad. These are mini mooncakes, which makes them a bit easier to eat, as well, not so much at once.
>>
Traditional egg mooncakes taste like shit.
But goddamn do mango and date ones get me wet.

Korean rice cake is much better though desu senpai.
>>
>>7330716
but i am curious, what are you going to do with the durian?
>>
>>7330738
Yeah, I don't care for the egg mooncakes either. They just....idk....suck.

>>7330748
Eat it, lol.

That's not how it works.

$22, but they were having a sale. I can't remember what the regular price is.

>>7330859
Eh....I wouldn't say it's sweet.
>>
Also, I decided to open the rice cakes and have one after dinner. Goddamn drier than a sandstorm in the sahara. Only a cup of tea made it edible. But meh, they didn't cost that much.

Went to the Indian grocery. Got black cardamom, green cardamom pods, fennel seeds, anise seeds, cloves, asafoetida, tamarind, fenugreek, and bay leaves. Fraid they didn't have everything I was looking for though.
>>
>>7330935
It really doesn't matter whether you speak English or not. You can usually figure out what something is by looking over the package carefully. Or just ask someone, I'm sure some of them speak enough English to tell you. Or just buy what looks good, bring it home, and either google it or just try it, see what you like.

But remember your manners. At the asian mega stores here, it's not that big of a deal, but at the Japanese supermarket, everyone is extremely polite and you'd better be too.
>>
>>7331024
I love going to the Indian market. That's pretty much where I buy nearly all my spices, except for specialty spices from other places. Also where I buy the majority of my rice (there and the asian market). That aged basmati......

What were you looking for that they didn't have, just out of curiosity?
>>
I got some pork belly and goat meat today, along with ube buns. I'd have gotten a daikon radish but all of them were kind of rubbery. I've been looking for bonito flakes because it's in every damn Japanese recipe but there's no place near me that stocks them, I have to go across the city to find them.

And I want to get some sake for the same reason but I'm only 20. I wish there was a culinary allowance for underage alcohol sales.
>>
>weeb falling for asian marketing
literally no asian buys mooncakes at this time. You just purchased stale mooncakes from 4 months ago
>>
>>7331079
clearly it's a devious asiatic plot to dispose of old stock
>>
>>7331079
My ass.
There were plenty of asians buying mooncakes at the store today. Two older asian women literally bumped me aside to get at them while I was choosing mine. Don't be stupid.
>>
>>7330667
Ive never had the packaged sesame ball with red bean i assume.

The fresh stuff tastes great, i've prob been spoiled.
>>
>>7331275
You mean they were buying it to gift to their unsuspecting white friends. It happens pretty often here.
