I prep 16 lunches at a time every 2 weeks by making mass quantities of beans and rice.
Give me your best beans and rice tips.
In return I'll share mine:
Use dried beans.
Use the bulk beans, they're cheaper and just as good.
Most recipes call for way too much garlic- this will give you gastric nightmares.
Don't forget bay leaves.
If freezing, make sure the beans go on top of the rice.

Red and black beans make the best beans and rice.
Mixing bean varieties might lead to a variance in bean mushiness which is either a plus or a minus depending how you like your texture.
Rice cookers are awesome.
Rice and beans form a complete amino acid profile. You could survive on this dish alone for a very long time.
How do you store it? What do you cook it in to be able to make that much? How much do you consider "a lunch"?
>too much garlic
>gastric nightmares
get out of here vlad

What?
16 lunches every two weeks, what do you do with the extras?

1 for every day for 8 days a week. 8+8=16. It's not that hard.

Ah I forgot about Sclorsday.
Substitute one cup of water in the rice for a cup of white cooking wine.
You're fucking very welcome.

Does it really cook properly? I mean, I use wine for rissotto, but I can't imagine it cooking normal rice properly. Never tried it though.

Why do people always warn against eating certain foods, just because they happen to be sensitive or intolerant to it.
>>7225042
it will cook it properly, sure, but it's a bad suggestion; wine-flavored rice tastes bad. do sub in some stock or broth though.

I have heard that using brewed green tea as rice water can be really good
Thus I have heard.

OP here
For an interesting flair and a very frugal move you can use the bean water to cook your rice in.

this, or cook rice in pasta water

If you're serious about this diet, then buy a rice cooker. Fill it up with three servings multiplied by the number of people, push the button, and you have hot rice to enjoy for the entire day. Acquire a 1.5 quart (or larger based on your needs) slow cooker for the beans.
This dude(tte) has the same one as me: http://www.familyfoodfinds.com/2012/05/fridays-food-for-thought_18.html
Even if it is just reconstituted dried food, I feel like it tastes better freshly cooked.
Protip: use your tupperware to portion out the dried ingredients for each day.

I don't think I could ever eat the same food 16 days in a row
