Going to make a whole roast chicken for the first time ever. Any tips? What kind of seasonings do you use etc

If you can do better than a supermarket chicken I'd advise doing so. Depending on where you live this could be a chicken from a local farm, a free-range heritage breed bird from an upscale grocery or a Buddhist chicken from an Asian market. Anything with normal proportions instead of tiny little legs compared to a giant breast.
These birds are more expensive, but they're more flavorful, so you don't need any tricks to make them tasty.
Make sure it's on a rack.
Make sure you pat the chicken dry.
Salt and pepper, nothing else is necessary.
