If you are all genuinely curious, why not test it yourself? By everclear and dilute to ~10% concentration in water. Try that side by side with plain water and see if you can distinguish between the two. If there is still a burning sensation dilute the concentration further until there is no burn, and you can do a fair test to see if the ethanol has any flavor.
