Does anyone here own a Vegetti? Is this a hunk of junk that wont actually turn my veges into noodles, or inconvenient in any way?

No. I sometimes use seaweed strands in place of spaghetti. It probably works better. Sliced zucchini wouldn't hold its form very well.

i have one. it works poorly on carrots, but great on zucchini and yellow squash. I prefer to steam or pan fry the resulting noodles. as so,e above said, overcooking will yield noodlemush.
I would recommend you consider the bigger models, so you can do spiral slicing. the paderno etc that are 30$. it can do a lot more stuff much more effectively.
You may also consider getting a titan slicer. i have one and use it to make carrot noodles. works great and is 'stiff' enough to make quick work of carrots and other garnish like radish.

I've heard stories about the blade coming out of the vegetti and ending up in the food.
Also if you look on eBay there are imitation vegetti type things that cost a couple of dollars that will do the same job.

i heard that too. i admit that i do a quick visual inspection to ensure all the blades are there after i use it, but ive had mine for over a year and use it once or twice a week with no problems (yet). i have the name brand one.

I got one a year ago and it's pretty great. I make spaghetti with half zucchini noodles and half spaghetti and it's satisfying. Good option if you love pasta but want to cut down.
