Treat drinking like taking a shower or brushing your teeth. Just do it every night, even if you don't feel like it. Hold your drink and sip on it while watching TV or something and don't put it down until it is finished. Repeat. Sometimes it actually takes some effort and will power, not because you can't enjoy the taste, but because you get distracted. Don't get distracted.

If it makes you feel any better this girl has never been mine and I still want to spend the rest of my life with her. She is with some deadbeat now for seven years, no job, no car, in and out of jail. She knows how I feel about her but she refuses to leave him because she has a kid with him. i've found that having an active hobby to pursue is one of the best ways for me to keep moderate. i love/live to ride my bikes. every day of the year. it's important to me and i always want to get better. if i'm drunk/hungover/tired too often it gets in the way of my biking. finding something you love to do sober & that you do better sober/can really only do sober can be a godsend if you feel like you're loosing traction.
active and athletic pursuits are god-tier natural anti-anxiety remedies too. pick up a sport/start exercising if you want to kick the booze...

Try an over the counter sleep aid first. Honestly, they work pretty well. I always have some of the generic Publix brand sleep aid on hand and popping two of those puts me right out...and this is coming from someone who can double or triple dose nyquil without any noticeable effect.
All the OTC sleep aids are is a disguised anti-histamine, like benadryl, but man do they work. Way less of a problem than the prescription stuff can be.

This works. I used Donormil (French name, it's a anti histamine too), two pills make me sleep usually.
Only problem is that you're not supposed to take them for more than 10 days. I used them daily for a year.
They still worked ,somehow. But I had side effects with "allergies", gum healing after a gingivitis, etc. I'm lucky I didn't get sting by a bee, could have been bad.
