Been away from beers for two weeks, back now and no beer general to be seen! WTF!
Drinking, buying, cellaring or just wanting to try out?
I had this one after dinner today, bought 2 bottles this time last year, had one then and thought it was slightly harsh, opened the other bottle tonight and it did seem smoother. Probably just my palate that has changed though. Great beer no matter what!
Followed up with a standard czech pils. Very good for a canned one though!

Some really harsh alcoholic beers might need more than that to settle down, but yeah most of them should not need more than 12 months of cellar time. I drink most of what i get fresh these days even, works nice enough for most beers.
Holba is a nice beer for the price! Do try the Praga as well, nothing fancy just plain good.
Followed the pils up with a locally produced west coast style ipa. Very dry, quite nice as it was fairly fresh though!
Drinkable, but definitely doesn't showing the potential of aging beer in barrells.

Having this one tonight. Not bad, mildly sweet with a bitter aftertaste.
Had a Barrel Aged B.O.R.I.S. last night. The bourbon flavors were all there in full force, surprisingly so were the hops. It was pretty sharp.
Considering buying another to sit on.
Refreshing and very drinkable IPA from Poland. Simcoe does the job.

Drinking this stuff. One of my favorite winter warmers. Silky smooth and somehow tastes cozy as hell. Indeed is one of my favorite local breweries.
Went out on a staff christmas party this week. Really not my scene, and in a chain pub that is known for its low quality food and questionable clientele.
Soon cheered up when I discovered they had these, as well as some other very respectable craft beer selections. The red one was nice, but the blue was excellent. Didnt try the gold.
I didnt really get the opportunity to savour them and think about it the flavour too much. From what I recall, for me the drinks I've tried from Rochefort, Westmalle and Westvleteren are better - even so, I'd still say Chimay is excellent (i just happen to think the other are even more excellent)

I have yet to try any Chimay beer. In america the blue is like 12$ for a bomber and I don't like dropping that much on one bottle of beer anymore. Maybe I'll just ask for a bottle for christmas from someone

For 330ml bottles: I paid £4 for the red ($6) and the blue was paid for by the company. I could pick up Chimay Blue for about £3.20 ($4.85) and red for £2.50 ($3.80) online, and perhaps a little more if I went to a local beer shop.
This chain of pubs is well known for being cheap and cheerful. They serve alcohol all day I believe which attracts the alcoholics, and a pint of English ale is about £2-£2.50, where as in most other pubs its £3-£3.50. So it was a suprise to see them offering craft beer. They also had quite a few others such as Lagunitas, Sixpoint and Brooklyn Lager. Hopefully it will lead to more places following suit.

Most good beer in america is sold as either 6 or 4 packs of 355 mL bottles, or single 650 mL bottles (cheap beer in mostly 24 or 30 packs of 355mL cans)

Beer is sold quite differently in UK.
Macros are normally sold cans or bottles. This could be in packs of 4/6/8/12/16/20/24. Typically the bottles are 330ml and the cans are 440ml, but also 568ml cans because Brits like a pint. Single bottles also come in 660ml.
Beers that would be described as English Ale (most people here would call it 'real ale') are normally sold as individual bottles, typically of 500ml. However, supermarkets (and a lot of beer shops) almost always have offers on these such as any 4 for £5 (the bottles cost £1-£2 each individually) which is good because it allows you to mix it up.
Supermarkets dont really stock craft beers. They are still quite expensive and typically start from about £2 for a 330ml bottle, and sold individually.
tonight i'll be knocking back a six-pack of these with cheese curds and apple slices. pretty nice flavor, not too bitter, thankfully.
This thread reminds me of wealthier times and better brews though.

No, light beers are the worst for you per calorie as they have no other nutrients. Good beer often has yeast as its usually not filtered and bottle conditioned and typically has a lot more nutritional value

Yeah I can pick up pretty much any macro beer for around £0.50 per 440ml can right now, if I buy two crates of it. Unfortunately not for craft beer. My dad ran a craft beer bar for quite a while which was really good, and how I got in to it. Well 2bh i did read that there was a study linking large consumption (i'm talking over years) of hoppy beers to estrogen increase. But honestly, that's if you drink like a 6 pack of hoppy beer once every week for 2-3 years.

I have 5 bottles of Boon Oude Gueze in my cellar that I'm planning on leaving there for the long term - I understand that you can do so for up to 20 years. I can't find any description of why you would do this, however. Can anyone comment on the changes and possibly a good compromise of time to drink them by?

Yeah I just shoot for around 50 degrees Fahrenheit now. The lack of head always bothered me and the amount of flavor lost at the colder temps was surprisingly a lot.

As far as American beer goes, its kind of all that is available - at a UK supermarket at least, could probably get something different if I went to a specialist beer shop, but I'd also pay a lot more.
They had Samuel Adams Lager, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Torpedo. That was about the extent of the American beers.

Great brewery, I really enjoyed their other Mega Beers (Black House and Blazing World). Only a few years in and they pretty much surpassed most breweries here, both in terms of beer quality and variety.
Now drinking. Lomaland. Probably my favorite of their flagship beers. Love me some Belgian yeast.
I don't have any beer right now, and am in Hawaii, in Kauai.

I can't say since it's my first year joining. I've been a longtime fan of The Bruery (by that I mean only 3 years lol) but never had the scratch and means of driving from SD to Placentia until now. I started with Preservation Society, and already got access to some good stuff. (Two Black Tuesdays, Confession, Oude tart with Boysenberries, and other experimental batches) So I'm really looking forward to next month when my RS membership kicks in.
Hanger 24 makes some good stuff. Highlights for me are Pugachev's Cobra and Chandelle.

yeah, you pretty much have to sign up for Preservation society in order to get access to Reserve society nowadays (Preservation members get the chance to sign up for Reserve before the general public).
You can sign up for Preservation at the last possible quarter though... in past years there hasn't beenany preference given to people who have been in Preservation longer if that makes sense
