Get some Bolla pinot grigio, soave, or chianti, anon.
It's inexpensive, delicious, and doesn't suck ass like most U.S. wines.

The disappointment they feel for your failures in life cannot be masked by a nice bottle of wine. Dont even bother.

Forget the wine you are going to need some hard liquor. That way they'll be so shitfaced drunk they won't remember what a crushing disappointment you are.
Source: I do this every time my parents come over. It hasn't failed me yet.
There's no classy wine. There's just pretention. Something like 90% of sommeliers couldn't tell plonk from quality. So, it's all pretend for the social status.
My mom likes wine, so I take two buck chuck and pour it into an empty screaming eagle bottle. In college, I would do the same thing with costco vodka and grey goose.
Whatever compliments the food.
Beer is better for Thanksgiving.

Chianti or valpolicella are both reasonably priced and usually very nice imo.

Also if you have a bit more money to spend barolo is very good.
