African food thread, starting with Kenyan. No memes pls
I visited Africa when I was 8 or 9 and remember having pic related in Kenya and Zimbabwe.
I always thought it was called "sudza" because it looked and tasted like soap.
What is that tortilla-like brown bread?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LItNFP7icUw
I went on a tour of Africa (just 7 countries though) and honestly, the beef I had there was unanimously better than anything I had at home. Any ideas why?
pic unrelated.
>african food
Maybe we should start a polish spacerockets thread as well
fufu
usually eaten with stew, texture is almost like bread dough
pretty hard to get right if you're doing it yourself
Here's some traditional African cuisine garnished with a bit of parsley.

>Kenyan food
You mean straight out of the UN food aid package!
>>7038156
Well, people believe there is something called 'american music', so why the fuck not.
Does anyone else like Ethiopian food? I went to a pretty good place in DC last time I was there and it really kills me that where I live now doesn't have any Ethiopian places.
>>7037487
Maybe they don't have meat factories like where you live. Free range shit. Or maybe it's just a different breed.
Can you guys literally not discuss African or Indian cuisine without devolving into this kind of meaningless shitposting.
It's like you've never even tasted any of either cuisine.

I'm a big fan of Nigerian and West African food. Maafe (peanut stew, usually with beef, root vegetables, and greens, really easy to make), jollof rice, fufu, akara, edikangikong, and efo riro, all were good-great. I have a friend from Sierra Leone who makes me food sometimes, I don't know many of the dishes she's made but they've ALL been blow-your-mouth-off spicy and all delicious. Some were rlly similar to Nigerian stuff I've had.
I'm only really experienced other than that with Ethiopian cuisine, which is a shame. I'd love to try some other African foods, or visit someday.

I find it hard to believe that tomatoes, cultivated in South America and used for culinary purposes in Mexico, are part of African cuisine, but I suppose tomatoes and peppers are everywhere. Was food just shitty and boring everywhere before spicy peppers from the Americas cross-pollinated to every culture?
A hearty meal indeed.
>>7038328
Pretty much, actually. It's actual hard to exaggerate how massive an effect the Columbian Exchange had on world culture, cuisine, birth rates, death rates, famine, technology, ecology, etc.
It literally transformed the world. If potatoes had never come to Europe, it's very possible their populace would still be suffering for it. Sweet potatoes and corn in China saved much of the rural pop. from starvation, and likewise in Africa. Chilis were adopted both for flavor and for food preservation purposes.
Read 1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus and (more on this point) 1493: Exploring the World Columbus Created, both by Charles C. Mann, amazing books.

North African food allowed too OP?
Post some recipes!
Bobootie is delicious.
I've always thought Ethiopian food looked tasty, but I've never had the chance to try it.
The food I had in Uganda was the worst though - plain boiled or grilled fish with plain boiled plantains or rice.
>>7038366
Do yourself a favor and just go to the closest Ethiopian place you can, order yourself a bottle of honey wine, and enjoy yourself.
>>7038317
>Can you guys literally not discuss African or Indian cuisine without devolving into this kind of meaningless shitposting
Maybe you'd be happier on tumblr, SJW queer. Then you can post all night about how white people never invented anything and gender is a social construct
>>7038390
Seriously, this is a cooking board. We discuss cooking. Not politics. We have a board for that, did you know? Maybe you'd be happier there.
>>7038156
Not on /ck/ though.
>>7038317
Got a Nigerian gf. Quite often have egusi soup, jollof, moin moin, suya, plantain, red stew, gari, puff puff. Nigerian food is pretty good.
>>7038400
dubs for chemo
>>7038390
How is enjoying another culture's food instantly equatable to being an SJW? Do I have to suck the cock of every White male in the vicinity and sig heil to burgers to appease you, you faggot?
Sometimes I don't know who's more cancerous, SJWs or you goosestepping /pol/tards
>>7037433
That stuff has so many different names. My parents are from SA where it's called "pap", so I always had weird Africa food as a child and that was my favourite, particularly kreemy meal brand. For breakfast as a porridge with some butter in is just amazing. It never tasted like soap to me, was always just so creamy.
>>7038294
Is the joke because they don't exist?
Better than any jerky.
>>7038617
I was wondering how long it would take someone to start crying about this supposed /pol/ bogeyman
>>7038628
>being this delusional about how cancerous /pol/ is
It's at the level of tumblrina bullshit but on the opposite side of the political/economic spectrum
>>7038400

Pick one
>>7038633
Most people /pol/post because they get this hyperemotional reaction out of retards like you
Just report all the posts that trigger you so you can feel like you accomplished something
>>7038400
Not the anon you're responding to but your assumption is that this board is otherwise not shit when politics isn't discussed. /ck/ may be one of the slowest boards on 4chan but honestly it's just as cancerous as /pol/. Everything on here devolves into worthless shitposting and fighting within 1-2 posts

>where_do_you_think_we_are.png
>>7038624
The joke is that my city doesn't have any Ethiopian restaurants and Washington DC does because it has the largest population of Ethiopian people outside of Adis Ababa.
You know it's worrying when the joke posts are more appetising that the real ones
>>7037487
Are you eating standard beef in the US? Try out grass fed, organic, free range beef.
>>7038697
>grass fed, organic, free range beef.
>literal meme meat
I think I'll pass
>>7038708
This "meme" meme is getting out of hand. You're an idiot for dismissing it without even trying it once.

Jollof rice is the shit

Ethiopian is really interesting. There's a place in London called Lalibela which is particularly good; it's a great place to take people because the idea of serving everything on a giant sourdough pancake is so alien but also attractive to westerners.
any desserts?

Has anyone tried Ethiopian food?
Neither have they.
WE WUZ CHEFS AND SHIET YEEEE
>>7038622
Yeah, it probably didn't taste like soap, as much as my childhood mind remembered it that way.
I remember it being a really bland, dense sponge like thing. Not at all creamy.
>>7039997
In culinary school they honestly taught us that South Africa, Morocco, and Ethiopia were the only three countries in Africa with internationally recognized cuisine (according to the school, I guess?).
>yes, you were making a stale joke
But yeah, out of those three countries I'd go with Ethiopian food every time (not that I've had too much S. African food).
>>7039979

>proving his point
Stop posting senpai
actually disappointed in this thread i'd eat african food over american food any day, especially Moroccan food, the dad grew up in africa so grew up eating it
>>7039699
Honestly, this is the most appetizing thing I've seen in this thread so far. The color and seasoning look great. Land Prawns.
>>7039924
Yeah but he trolled them and upset their sensitive feels so they've been waving their dicks all over every board since then whining that things they don't like exist and anyone who disagrees is a feminist sjw faggot jew reddit tumblr big fat meany stupid face.
I made this Zimbabwean signing in!
I love injera so much I tried making it at home. I failed. But I'll keep trying!
Am I missing something with injera? Is it supposed to be clammy with an off-putting texture?
>>7040676
if youre in the southern hemisphere you have to rotate your image so it doesnt appear upside down to people in countries like the USA
>>7040725
It's possible you just don't like it. I think it's great - moist, spongy, sturdier than the texture seems like it would be.
>>7037487
I'm pretty sure most, if not all of their cattle are not taurine cattle like the ones in North America and Europe(aside from the few that were probably brought over). They are of the zebu variety, or a third species of auroch was domesticated separately from the european and asian aurochs but later mashed together with the domesticated asian aurochs.
Being that they're a different species from our taurine cattle, maybe thats why but I hear zebu is tough stuff.
