Read the document first before asking basic questions that have been answered time and time again like "is making a bag for ___ ok?" and "where do i get the heart bags??".

end dump

also side note, it's great to see the facebook group being active. what kind of events would work for a hobby like this?
i like the idea of giveaways but not everyone would be interested in the same franchises so participants would be limited
>>
>>8975777
How about itabag resources as giveaways? Base bags, vinyl bags, strap guards, button covers, chains, ribbons and rosettes etc
>>
>>8975794
Seconding this!
>>
>>8975777
Omg that is so amazing. True ita love once you have a bjd of your character.

Also for the giveaway I like >>8975794
idea. I think letting the winner pick what color bag they want, within a certain price range such as up to certain amount, since not everyone will want a pink bag or a blue one so letting winner pick their color bag is a good idea.
>>
>>8975777
Love the bjd! I wanna make one of my husbando, but i dont know where to start with them.
>>
>>8975777
>>8975794
This would be really great. I know a lot of you in the US can get vinyl bags and those supplies really easy, those of us outside need to order and it can be a pain because of customs taxes and such.
Maybe someone in the group who's an artist could also giveaway a custom piece for a character?
>>
>>8975943
Bjds are expensive but worth it imo. Depending on your character, you might need to invest from $350 ~1,500 USD just to get the right doll mold and size and the face-up (make-up for the doll basically) can add another $50 ~100 on who you commission. There is a bjd thread on /toy/ to get you started on where to look, buy, and how to take care of them, etc.
>>
>>8975770
This is incredible, props to Murderface anon
>>
>>8976097
and if you can't afford a bjd theres always pure neemos and such which are basically just smaller, cheaper bjds.
>>
>>8975393
Love how this one was done.
>>
Need some advice, anons!
I got an itabag panel approved for a convention next month and I wanted to know if these basic topics sounded good and if I'm missing anything or you all can suggest things to cover.

>history of itabags / comparison to western button bags similar to itabags to help new people grasp the concept?
>covering the basic substyles of itabags (shrine, runaway, etc)
>popular places to purchase itabag supplies
>guide to where to buy merchandise for itabags
>interactive game for people to guess which type of substyle an itabag example is
>Q&A ending with handouts of lists of shops/websites for bag supplies and merch
>>
>>8976171
Also the button bag thing will be super brief, it's just what I plan on opening with as of "Has anyone heard of itabags?" and then "Well how many of you have seen or own a button bag?" thing because button bags are seen a lot more here and I wanted to start off how it's basically the same concept but with series/character specific merchandise.
>>
>>8976173
As long as you point out the differences between ita and button bags it looks good to me

another fate/stay night bag done! really digging how this came out.
>>
>>8976242
Yeah definitely would, it was more of a "Hey, you're all familiar with this thing so this is basically the idea of that, but an evolved form!" though I may just leave it out entirely. I only planned on bringing up button bags in the intro because that's been going on for years while itabags for the con scene is sort of a new concept?

Maybe I'll just approach it from a "Who likes to buy merch of their favorite character but realizes they have nothing they can do with it aside from put it somewhere in their room? Well, here you go!" angle.

Has anyone here who collects acrylic charms/keychains/etc has ever dealt with scratches?
My dumbass self never really though about this until I was taking the keychains I have attached to my bag out and noticed several repeated scratches on a couple of them (basically another one kept rubbing against it repeatedly on the same spot and I didn't notice).
I guess I understand now why I see some bags with small clear covers on each of the pieces. Has anyone ever successfully taken care of something like this? Buffering, polishing..?
Thank you in advance.
>>
>>8976731

>>
>>8977323
People have used a plegde acrylic floor polish to fill scratches in transparent lego bricks. It could work on charms too.

>>
>>8977410
Thank you SO much. I'm going to be looking into that asap.

Another question, this time for US anons in general. How exactly does your international shipping rates work..? I've gotten anywhere from 4$ to 13$ as shipping quotes when asking to have items like a rubber keychain (or pretty much the same the size/weight) sent overseas. I always ask for the cheapest option available since I know int. shipping isn't cheap to begin with and the disparity of prices is confusing. Am I just dumb and not getting something or could this be to try scalp non-US buyers?
>>
>>8977879
if it's something as light and flat as a single keychain, it can be sent in an envelope for fairly cheap, but it probably won't come with tracking. for that reason alone some people may want to ship it as a small package instead, which significantly increases the price but will come with insurance and tracking. or they really might not know they could just stuff it in an envelope with a little bubble wrap and send it off for less than $5.

personally I always play it safe and send it as a package to get the tracking unless I get explicitly asked to send it the cheapest way possible, because if that thing gets lost in international parcel limbo and the postal service on their end is giving them the runaround, there will always be people who'll find some way to make it your fault for being economical.

I haven't posted in a very long time! My bag has grown a lot in the last few months.

I'm making a Tanaka Ryuunosuke from Haikyuu!! bag now! I have a bunch of charms and buttons coming in the mail, so once I have a bag together, I'll definitely post it! Although, I feel like I'm cheating on Jojo's by making a new bag....

>>8978578
I'm actually reading ahead into the manga, I'm in part 5 now. I'm excited to get to the more recent stuff... I really want more manga-centric stuff as well, but I also really want official merchandise. I'm just waiting for the other parts to have better merch before I add them to the bag. I have part 4 stuff coming next month! The endgame is one day I will only have official merchandise on the bag, and get rid of the non-official stuff. The only other manga official stuff I've seen is for part 5, I think and they are some weird phone jacks I'm not too crazy about... But yes, beautiful Tanaka. He is like my new obsession besides Jojo's! You have good taste, anon. Let's be friends.

>>8978583
I'm very glad! I got that recently to wear, and immediately after I bought it I was like, "I don't think this is for wearing anymore..."

I just paid for a package of more things for my bag that was 350 USD not counting service fees.
I don't plan on calculating it all up because if I do I might have to jump off a cliff...
>>
>>8979222
It's so hard to gauge because a lot of my purchases have my husbando grouped up with different characters. Then you've got shipping and ss prices.

Ignoring all of that and just going by rrp my bag probably has about $70 aud worth of merch on it now. I don't keep track of my purchases either
>>
I've never ordered from Taobao before, would it be worth it to buy from them if I'm not getting much of anything? Most of the merch for my husbando is figures, but there were a few things I saw that I could use. But I've heard that it's not really worth using Taobao if it's a cheap order.
>>
>>8979222
I don't even wanna think about it. I know I spent at least $300-400 bidding on stuff across 3 itabags, and with that, I got fucked up the ass by FJ's shipping fees for like....around $200?? (the domestic shipping absolutely murdered me)

It depends on the art? Button quality is about the same but I had a much easier time with making the design fit with the people at cheapest button rather then the diy with artsmoo
>>
>>8978616
Oh I see! Yeah there's not a lot of official stuff besides a lot of prize phone straps and key chains, I'm collecting those too. I hope you're digging part 5 (Bruno and Mista are love) and you should post in the group so I can annoy you. I always fall for the "delinquent" kinda characters, like Tanako and Okuyasu from JJBA.

Speaking of, I'd really like to make a "delinquent" themed bag, including chatacters from various series who are bancho/sukeban and such
>>
>>8979521
I was just planning to use some official art and manga panels. I'll have to check out cheapest button though, thanks!
>>
>>8979222
It ranges? The one I had to get buttons printed cost much less then the one with official merch. So like one of my bags is like 100$ while the other is like... 300 range maybe???

With a total of two complete and two work in progress, I've probably spent altogether about 600$? Range? Maybe? I feel like I'm low balling this number to make me feel better.

oh, anon. have you read kongou banchou? these two are some of the most kickass girls i've ever seen in manga.

what characters were you thinking?
>>

Reposting in new thread:

I believe I'm also over 150usd and probably closer to 200 than I think...but I often bid on lots that contain other characters that I don't want and I'm also making a 3 character bag. So if I pretend I'm making 3 bags (which I might divide them into eventually) I think I've been managing pretty well.

Actually it has been on my to read list for a while, I need to get on it!
Hmm a lot of characters I'm thinking of aren't necessarily in gangs, but they're rebels and loud and such
Okuyasu from JJBA (I love him, he was the catalyst for this idea lol), my favourite guys from the manga Crows/Worst, Clover, A-bout!, Kyou Kara Ore Wa!!... Sukeban Deka too! I would also use Mondo!! I have to squish Tanaka and Tora from Haikyuu!! in there too even tho they're not gangsters. Some kids from Battle Royale would be nice too!
I just realized I can't really think of a lot of female characters besides Saki from Sukeban Deka, or Ichigo from Kamikaze Girls (if I were to include live action somewhere)
I am also a Matsu fan so I would like to have the brothers as delinquents from that one skit.

Sorry for rambling! Just sharing some thoughts based around the idea of a themed bag.

This was what I was afraid of. Maybe Taobao can help me out since most of it I'll be attaching to my outfit and it's largely going to be decorative with pearls for Hiei (even though he's technically not an ice maiden) and roses for Kurama to match the black fabric of the yukata and the roses and lace design.

Planning on wearing it in September which is technically past yukata season from what I've read but hey, conventions kinda bend the rules with traditional clothing and I'm not waiting another year to bust this out.

What should I do to go about a show I love but all the characters look pretty generic? Pic related is what I want to make a bag for. I was thinking about making a bag for the whole series since most of the characters don't stand out, especially the main character, but I still feel like it might be too bland. Any tips?

I only have limited ability in hands swing and I was able to see all my clear bags! I have a bent tip needle meant for wefting that I used. Found a small clear bag at Daiso yesterday to use as a placeholder. I'm mostly focusing on cosplay right now but really want to finish my small Saionji ita bag for Fanime so this bag is good enough (now I just need an inner bag. . .)
>>
>>8980414
Sewing plastic is really easy, provided you have a machine. My basic machine stitched mine just fine with a heavy duty needle and thread, and applying matte finish invisible tape (like you would use to wrap gifts) to the presser foot and plate so the vinyl glides through the machine.
>>
>>8981892
I ended up using some baby oil to buff up the inside to make the plastic shiny and clear again. I think it should be added to the guide that acetone will make the bag look cloudy and that you have to buff it with an oil to restore it.

My Len itabag for Mikuexpo is ready! I wish I had a larger base bag, the one i ordered will arrive while I'm out today so i won't be able to use it until Friday, this will have to do for now. It's awkward to fix these straps onto a flimsy pouch.
>>
hey itabaggers, I need some help. I have a pin with a lot of sentimental value that I've had on my bag, but it's started to fall off. happened twice now, I freaked out both times but I still managed to find it. is there any chance of fixing it? it seems like the back of the pin isn't locking way back where it should be, it's sliding to the little notch at the end of the post and then it doesn't take that much to pull it off. should I try a different back or is there something else that I can try doing? I think I have a few spare ones.
it's hard to explain, I can take pictures if this is too confusing.
>>
>>8982657
You could always glue the pin lock area? I'm sure you could get it off later with enough pressure but that'll ensure the pin stays put.

You can safety pin through the joint hole of the pin for extra security.

Which Mikuexpo are you going to? Looks awesome by the way! I've always wanted to make an itabag of Vocaloid keychains, but I really can't decide on one favorite Vocaloid and my favorite Vocaloid isn't a Cryptonloid, so, lesser merch. Would it matter if I just put all the Vocaloid keychains I have?

Thanks! And I'm going to the SF one, which is tomorrow(sweats). If you want to make a bag with different vocaloids on it you can, I'd just try to focus on a layout that doesn't look too random? You could always make multiple bags for your top faves.

On a side note gulls, I wore my bag to the Mikuexpo pre-sale today and a Japanese girl who I had seen yesterday at the Let's Draw event came up to me and complemented my bag because she likes Len(and Rin) too! She even gave me this Len charm I didnt know existed to add to my bag ;;___;; I felt so blessed and happy that she'd give it to me, I honestly thought she was just showing it to me at first! Have you heard of things like this where you meet someone with the same husband/wife and they just gift you a thing?? I wanted to return the favor but unfortunately I don't have anything i couldve gifted :'o

Oh! Nono, not suggesting they just toss in a fuckin Anubis for no damn reason. Just the generic Egyptian artifacts you saw on the show like the ankh or the eye of Horus and stuff like that. I just didn't feel like listing all the shit and frankly, if it's overused for Egyptian symbolism, it was probably in the show.

I haven't seen the generic sculpts shoot up in price unless they're retired. The only dolls I've seen raise in price are either specific characters with special sculpts (e.g. Saber or Rise Kujikawa), limited sculpts, or retired sculpts.

Stinking cute.

My Juice bag is in the works, this bag ended up being quite a bit smaller than I thought it would be. So now I know the wego heart bag must be tiny haha

Progress so far, I removed the vinyl cover for the photo. Things that are loose are typically at the bottom of the back of the bag. I'll eventually make the back side devoted to Ichi + Juice.

(The card is something a artist sent me with the purple button at the top, so cute! And I absolutely do not remember buying the smug Ichi drink charm haha)

For alt stuff have a look on ebay for the generic millennium item keychains! If you search yu-gi-oh keychains they should come up, there's that big box of all of them. If you just want the puzzle though they're are necklace listings for it on there as well!

Zakkamart bag came and I'm glad I chose the mint color instead of black or white like I was first thinking. Don't have much to put on for now, as I'm waiting on an order with more charms to arrive along with these special bears and ducks the Jump Store came out with and can badges I'm losing sleep betting on. Hopefully with the new anime the remaining space will fill up fast.

I'm thinking of adding dango charms to hang between the straps and maybe a cross somewhere too but wondering if that might be pushing it.

Also I remembered a few threads ago I said I'd do a review of mynamenecklace.com (The red polnareff necklace in the 3rd photo)

The quality and everything is really nice. I got it pretty quickly too and the little charm add on is nice touch.(Theres like hearts, stars, peace symbols, ect ) Only thing is it's a little pricey unless you have a coupon code which they seem to have regularly. It's a cute add on to any bag/character. You can choose the color and font too.

I'm in need of some opinions.
I'm waiting on more of Ichimatsu and Jyushimatsu for my first bag and I realized my wego is far too small for the amount of stuff and the size of the merch I bought, so I'm going to make my own tote from scratch, using the Utapri bag as a reference.
My issue is, what background color to choose..? I was going for purple at first since I was gonna focus on Ichimatsu but I got a fair bit of Jyushi stuff now too. I thought of doing black since that's most of my wardrobe's color but I feel the merch will be a bit washed out.
What would you guys suggest as a background color?
Thanks in advance

the only thing I wasn't 100% sure on was the bit about "slightly less-mainstream merch" in the dark past type. the japanese used "slightly gray merch," presumably like a gray area, so to go with the theme of tryhard weebs I assumed it meant something along the lines of when normalfags say "I like anime, but not that ~mainstream~ shit like SNK or AOT."

sorry for shitty pic, but 1 kilo of badges anon reporting back in. EMS shipping for a 3ish kg package was around 6000 yen, but domestic shipping ripped me a new asshole, so my second charge total was about $150.

about 70ish badges altogether! I remember a couple people wanting makishima and fukutomi, so send me an email for better pics and to work out a price. shinkai (7 pieces), arakita (3 pieces), toudou (2 pieces), izumida (8 of the same badge), imaizumi (1 piece), and tadokoro (1 piece) are also up for grabs. there may be some onoda available later, but I got to work through all the duplicates from this lot and others first.

>>
>>8994350
last thread there was a discussion about how people couldn't find others to split merch with on MFC or they could never get what they wanted in split groups so one was made specifically for gulls.
>>
I know it's a retard question but how do you make the board with pins/keychains stop inside the heart bag?
>>
>>8994489
You can attach it in place by sewing/gluing velcro or poppers/snap buttons to the board and to the inside of the bag, if I undertood your question correctly. That should hold it in place while allowing it to remain removable.

Would anyone be interested in splitting this set with me? I'll be cross posting this in the ita bag group too.
>>
>>8995589
whoops forgot to mention but I'm claiming both of the Shuuzo ones!
>>
>>8995458
That's pretty impressive for a game that hasn't been getting merch all that long.
>>
I know I'll sound like a dick for saying this, but I'm honestly so tired of seeing osomatsu-san everywhere. I won't deny that the bags like >>8995451 are really impressive and it takes a lot of work to fund those bags.
>>
>>8995589
ahh, damnnn. I want these so bad but am only interested in Shuu as well hahah. Though, would you be planning on getting the second part of this set when images come up?

also it makes me happy to see other sb69 itabags collectors. I have one too.
>>
>>8995732
I feel the same way. Osomatsu-san bags seem kind of beginner-level to me because of the overabundance of merch anyway. Some of them are impressive but it seems like people just make them because they're easy and it's the hip thing right now.
>>
>>8995876
Or maybe because they actually enjoy the series and the characters?
I don't see anyone complaining of the amount of Free!, KuroBas, UtaPri or Love Live bags, for example.
Having lots of merch available certainly helps but that doesn't mean they make bags only because "it's easy and hip", unless that's what you think of everyone who makes bags for super popular series.
>>
My bag came into today ~. Even though none of my merch has arrived or fabric for backing I kind of decided to decorate it with what I have.
Planning to make a sailor moon ( probably outers or neptune/uranus focus) and an eli ayase slip.

Forever hating myself for liking the outers as merch is nonexistent for them. Other than figurines. There are so many figurines.

Anyone got any good layout tips or decoration tips they could share? Total beginner. (hence the shitty photo lmao.)
>>
>>8995467
OMG this one! I love Ensemble Stars! This is so creative!
>>
>>8995881
>Free!
Only really popular with seagulls right now.

>KuroBas
Those don't get posted that often to be honest.

>UtaPri
Again, dwindling in popularity and most photos of them are months old because they had their own itabag line so it got a brief boom.

>Love Live
They're on a whole other level and 95% of posts are mecha-tier and posted solely because of that.

Meanwhile
>Osomatsu-san
Original content here, fucking floods of original content on the FB group, posts of random girls bags fucking left and right. Yes, some people love it for love itself but you have to admit if this series hadn't just come out there wouldn't be nearly as much posts about it.
>>
>>8995869
Yep but I'm claiming the Shuu ones in that set too. Sorry anon! If you're interest in any of the other ones, lemme know!
>>
>>8995937
Osomatsu is fairly recent and new merch keeps sprouting regularly, so the fans are buying. The exact same thing happens with any other popular series (remember the insane Free! hype?).
Itabags are also increasing in popularity so it's quite normal to see a lot of new content on whatever series is well loved and known at the moment (which just happens to be Osomatsu).

It's understandable if you don't care for the series and don't have an interest in seeing content from it but singling it out feels a bit unfair, especially when saying people are doing it because "it's easy and hip" and that it's beginner-level itabaging, that was all I was trying to say. Any itabag of a series with a lot of available merch would have to be classified as "beginner level", which to me disregards the work and love behind them and makes it sound like those who collect merch of popular series are less dedicated for enjoying something that has a lot available to them.
It's just a fun collection hobby, each person decides how to make the most of it for themselves. They like the series, they buy, they are happy, lucky them their favorite characters have a lot of merchandise available! I wish my favorite character was more popular, so I could have cute things of him to collect.

Hoping this doesn't sound too confusing, english is not my mother language. Sorry about anything, I have some difficulty expressing what I mean.
>>
>>8995937
>but you have to admit if this series hadn't just come out there wouldn't be nearly as much posts about it.

Who cares? It's what's popular now. Don't worry, in a few months these threads will be taken over by swordshit itabags anyway.

that's cool. i would probably think the same if i wasn't so into the show, which i wasn't at first.
my original bag plans for a series i love have little to no merch whatsoever, so i put that on hold to focus on something i like (osomatsu) that also has easily accessible merch. although, saying that, it isn't actually that easy to get if you live outside japan and don't have $£$£$£

anyway, i have a question about how many gulls use their bags for practicality? i'm thinking of taking it to my next con (should be finished by then) to hold my purse and small things, but i was wondering if that would be clever or possibly ruin the bag. i'll be using the heart WEGO.
>>
>>8996010
Have you not heard of amiami? Just pre-order whatever straps or badges you're interested in, pay every month.
>>
Anyone have any inspo for more 'creative' type itabags? I mean in the way that the design incorporates handmade bows, use of lace or pearl decorations, etc. and not just a spam of straps and badges. The white Subaru (?) itabag is a pretty good example of what I'm looking for

amiami is great, but you still have to go through auctions or secondhand sites for things like lawson or event-specific items, or if you join the fandom late.

and if you enter doujinshi hell on top of all that, well.
>>
>>8996010
I use my Wego heart backpack as my everyday bag. I've been carrying it for around a month now with no problems. I'll also carry my regular tote ita bags on occasion if I want to match an outfit or something. I used one of them just today to go into the city.
>>
I've been really wanting to make a Beatrix Potter themed ita bag, I think it would be a hell of a lot of fun to do. I was thinking maybe I could include pocket or generally small copies of her books but I have no idea if it would be too bulky. What do you think would be the best way of going about something like that? Or should I just instead use specific pages and sew them in?

Here are my bags! I have a daiya one in the works too but haven't sewn the bag up yet (it's gonna be teal polkadots to match these), so here are my two Utapri ones. I fashioned the bags after the official coat bags but made them a bit smaller.
