although I'm not a cosplayer (seriously considering going as coop from Megas XLR for the next ab) one of my favorite chill con activities is watching average folks bewildered reactions to cosplayers, so hows about a normie reaction/story thread
>>

not my story but a bit of con lore that i picked up somewhere

>some smallish con in the south
>same hotel has a baptist meeting/con that weekend
>little old baptist lady is in an elevator

Is this just cosplay or can lolita join in because I've got one of each. Y'know what sharing anyway.

Amusing
>in lolita
>approached by middle aged couple
>"you're from Melbourne aren't you?"
>I'm not
>I'm not even Australian
>"n-no I'm from here"
"Oh but you must be we went on holiday there and there were girls dressed just like you!"

Horrific
>walking past towns shitty art gallery
>bunch of primary school kids outside
>obviously a school trip
>going on my merry way
>when asshole parent volunteer cries out
>"look kids it's Princess Elsa!"
>wearing pic related
>dark hair in a bun
>how even?
>kids get all excited
>they want pictures
>they want to talk to me
>some even start singing 'let it go'
>noped the fuck out of there
>kids start crying because 'why is Princess Elsa leaving?'
>teacher desperately trying to get things back under control while simultaneously regretting every life decision that lead to this point
>>
>>8959258
That teacher.. just what the fuck

Also, a Lolita is fine too

>walking to car, have to pass through apartment complex and busy road
>guy leans out window while driving, literally screams 'It's not Halloween!"
>It was Halloween
>It was literally October 31st

I was so confused, but now I just assume he screams that so often to anything and everything remotely 'strange' that he just doesn't even process it.

> Meet up in town with a bunch of cosplayers standing around and waiting for late fucks

God help you if Otakon takes place during an Orioles or Ravens game.

Drunk normie groups will accost the hell out of everyone all night long.

> be my bf
> be cosplaying Scissorman from Clock tower
> trying to call me from con entrance so we can meet up
> Orioles game is letting out like a block away
> normies drunk on Bud Lite and other swill SCREAMING into his phone "WTF EVEN ARE YOU LOL A LITTLE EARLY FOR HALLOWEEN LOL GET A JOB LOSER" and taking selfies with him without asking
>>
>>8959285
Same here
> October 31st
> on my way to a halloween party with a friend
> both wearing zombie cosplays
> pass by a group of teens
> one guy decides to act tough in front of his friends and runs up to us
> "hey you ugly freaks, it isn't halloween you know"
> friend and I burst out laughing
> takes the guy a while to realise his mistake
> he hurries back to his friends visibly ashamed
> laugh all the way to the party while we hear his friends insult him for being such an idiot

>rave is small walking distance away from con place
>can't be bothered to take the costume off, walk across the city in black robes that cover me head to toe and gas mask
>a group of kids, can't be older than 13, suddenly come and ask me "Hey, why the hell are all these weirdos walking around here?"
>explain the situation to them, they ask who I am dressed as
>they then keep following me and shouting my name

They probably just got bored or something because they disappeared soon enough.
>>
>Visiting Atlanta for DragonCon
>Cosplaying as Riddler
>Waiting for Uber to get to con center
>Some black women walk up
>"Ey, yo! Riddluh! Can we get a selfie?"

>"I hope this doesnt awaken something dark within me"
>Too late, totally into black women now

God damn you, Atlanta. God damn you.

Related I guess:
>go to convention on Halloween
>friend and I waiting by the street
>vaguely wondering if anyone will say that to us
>guy in a truck pulls up
>asks us if they're giving out candy to kids in [the convention center]

>At Otakon years back
>In cosplay with two friends going to get food in the inner harbor
>News station is going around interviewing cosplayers or something
>Stops us and starts making fun of us to the "audience" or whatever. Apparently it is being broadcast at the Orioles game on the big screen live.
>Me and my one friend are underaged and just stand there trying to stutter our answers to the stupid questions he asked.
>Older friend just takes the microphone and goes off on this guy.
>Tells him he should be ashamed of himself for picking on kids trying to have fun and that he was a dick. Pretty much told him to fuck off and then dragged us away to get food.
>Hero worshiped this girl the rest of the con.

But seriously, it was such a shitty experience. My friend and I were about 15 or 16 at the time and I had social anxiety really bad. Just getting in cosplay and finishing a costume was a feat for me because I wanted to match my friend and have a good time. That was the last con I cosplayed to though, it was really upsetting to be made fun of by an adult on tv like that.

Anyone ever have random encounters with parents chaperoning their teens and such?

>be in AA hawking my wares
>friend has table next to me
>adorable teen dressed as Honey from Ouran comes up with a disgruntled looking dad in tow
>Honey is bubbly and sweet and just generally very happy to be there
>Spots one of my friend's plush cake slices
>It's a big squishy slice of strawberry shortcake
>Honey is in love with it
>Happily starts to buy it when disgruntled dad interjects
>"You really want THAT? Why?"
>Explains that it's what she's been looking for for her cosplay
>"But it's just a lump of fabric and you're paying $10 for it. It's such a waste!"
>Honey's mood deflates and she sighs
>"Dad the character I'm dressed as really likes sweets, remember?"
>disgruntled dad obviously has no interest in his daughter's interests
>" so it's a perfect prop for my costume, plus it's really cute."
>Her dad continues to be a huffy dick about it but Honey bought the cake and thanked my friend before leaving
>Honey I hope you stay sweet forever

Later at the same con
>another young girl comes up to our tables with her grandmother behind her
>girl has a mile wide smile and is taking her time looking at everything from each of our tables
>grandmother is smiling also (thank you jesus) and I greet her when she gets to my table
>"Did you make all of these things?"
>Tell her yes, everything is handmade by me
>"Oh my goodness, such creativity from you young people! This is wonderful!"
>Starts talking about all the amazing costumes and things she's been seeing

>heart melts

I have a few stories
>few years ago
>be 17
>decide to wear lolita to prom (terrible idea in retrospect)
>sax old-school coord, very blonde hair
>dj points at me, yells into his mic "HEY ARE YOU SUPPOSED BE ALICE IN WONDERLAND"
>what
>entire senior class turns to look at me
also found out from my mom afterwards that one of the parent chaperones called me "the hello kitty girl" (i was not wearing any pink or cat ears)
more recently
>heading to a meetup in the next town over
>don't have a car at college
>very nice girl in my comm offered to pick me up
>we decide to meet at one of my college's buildings on the other side of town since it's halfway between her house and my dorm
>college is an urban campus, meaning i have to take the school bus and walk a few blocks (alone) to get to this building
>get off the bus
>start heading towards building
>get honked at
>someone yells something at me from a car and the passenger takes a photo
God I hate being out in lolita/jfash alone. I feel so powerful when my comm and I all walk down the street together. At the meetup the other people in the restaurant were so nice and complimented our clothes. I guess people are less of an asshole when there's a lot of you
>>

My prom theme last year was Alice in Wonderland lol
>>
Ah halloween stories with normies.

I work at a haunted house in october managing actors and acting in it myself. This year I sprung for those white out contacts, they were a bitch to work in some nights but I had fun.

I was wearing my costume one afternoon, had gotten into make up early since we were doing a process that usually takes for ever so I decided to get it out of the way before every one else showed up for work. Realized I left some stuff in the car I need but the parking lot was like three blocks away.
Decided to fuck it and just walk there anyways, be damned who saw me.

Walking back with my shit a pedestrian on the other side of the street (who cant see most of my face yet) yells "HEY HALLOWEEN IS NEXT MONTH"

I turn to face him, but before I can respond he just screams like hell. It was some what satisfying.

Customers were always seriously freaked out by the eyes though. My favorites were "Are those your actual eyes?!" and "How do you even see?" to which I'd respond "I dont, I smell fear."
>>
If a normie asks to take a pic with you at a con and you're dressed in lolita, how do you respond?
>>
>>8964844
Depends on their tone for me. Usually if I feel like they're making fun of me I try to politely decline and excuse myself.
>>
>>8964844
I came on here to post about this (well, more for cosplay but either way). I dont mind taking pictures with people out of costume/lolita, but I really can't stand normal people most of the time, especially tourists. A lot of times they just want to take pictures with weird people in costume and if they dont speak english its really hard to get them to understand no.

I get it if some normie is wandering by and they see a character they like (Link, Ezio, Cloud, Solid Snake maybe) but when you're dressed as some niche weeb shit and they come up to you asking for a picture and laughing- fuck no.
>>
>>8964867
>>8964902
Thanks, I asked for lolita specifically because I was at a festival and I saw a really cute lolita girl and I was too nervous to ask to take a picture with her. I didnt know people ask Lolitas for pictures because theyre not really a character.

Do I ask her like 'is it okay if I take a picture with you' and compliment her after or be like 'hey your outfit looks really cute, mind if I take a picture with you?'
>>
>>8964987
Im no a lolita but a cosplayer, but I always admire the fashion. When I see a really well done outfit I always just compliment them on their 'cord' and ask if I can take a photo.
>>
>>8964987
Yeah, I think that would be fine. If she's been in the fashion for any decent amount of time she would probably be more used to people asking to take pictures of her, not with her, but if I was in lolita I wouldnt be offended by someone asking me that. Just make sure that nothing on you is going to get on her dress (if you were holding a water bottle, a drink, some food, etc). Don't walk up to her with a plate of food and then hand it off to your friend before taking a picture, your hands could still be dirty.

But since you took the time to ask on here I'm assuming you're not that kind of person.
>>
>>8964993
No, I'd never do that, I wouldn't even touch her, no reason to. Only reason why I wanted to take a picture with her is because I was wearing a really dark high fashion outfit, and she was super pink and cute and I think it would've looked really cute seeing those together in a photo. I ended up not asking her though due to me being so nervous. I'll probably take a photo later though. Thanks for your input, I appreciate it.

Now I feel like a normie.

Anyway oddly enough the last really amusing normie reaction I can remember is a lolita that joined my college classes last year. No one cared but the 65+ year old professor actually started talking to her about the fashion and where it came from for quite a while. No one else really reacted.

I think it was kind of amusing just how interested this old man got into old time looking fashion after this.

>me, brolita friend(who has not yet started transition), and normie friend are separated from rest of group
>tram is taking way to long so we decided to just walk up this huge path.
>normie friend spots a woman taking pictures of us
>"hey can you please ask before taking pictures of them?"
>"well if you weren't dressed like fucking freaks we would have to"
>she just shouted this in a crowded zoo
>normie friend tells her we can dress how we want
>i tell her that if she just asked we would have been happy to take a picture for her and answer questions
>"you're fucking freaks!"
>she then goes to my brolita friend
>"and you're a BOY?! You fucking faggot!"
>friend doesn't even look masculine yet
>normie friend moves brolita away from angry lady and tells her that he can dress however he wanted to, she doesn't know us so why is she yelling all these things
>she starts to walk away with her husband and child in tow yelling "you're fucking fatasses!"
>normie friend just yells back "have a lovely day, ma'am"
>brolita and i are pretty shaken as this was the first negative experience we've ever had in lolita
>normie friend takes us aside and has us sit down, talks to us and calms us down before reuniting with the rest of the group

It was awful and it just amazed me that a grown woman would say these things to a group people who only recently turned twenty. We were going to find a zoo staff member but we were in a spot where there was no staff to be seen. If the whole group had been together at this point then perhaps it wouldn't have happened.

i think cynical people make certain assumptions when they see someone in non-standard fashion or whatever all by themselves, like they think you're trying to be a special snowflake and get attention so they get a weird urge to tear you down.

Those people don't have the chutzpah to do that to a whole group most of the time

a semi nice story i guess

Your mom is trying to engage with you about something you're both interested in, is what it sounds like. Why not just talk to her 1 on 1 and tell her how you feel? Maybe she thinks the reason you're getting upset is because you're embarrassed about your hobby, in which case she's probably just gonna keep doing what she's doing to try to make you more comfortable with it. Just talk to her and set things straight!

Replace "girls" with "guys" in the gender specific ones and I'm apparently a huge normie.
I like to think I've learned to hide my power level pretty well over the years; my friends know I'm a weirdo, but most of my acquaintances, coworkers, etc. think I'm just a polite young lady who enjoys cute and quirky dresses.
I've never really gotten the Little Bo Peep or play comments when in lolita (wear sweet mostly), but I do get a lot of people touching my clothing without asking, which is weird as fuck to me. Who thinks that's okay? Especially when it involves lifting up my skirt or something.
>>
Replace girls with guys.

Horrific:
>guy approaches my friends and me
>questions us about our outfits
>explain it's jfashion
>"oh it's lolita! it's just a bunch of 20 year olds trying to look like a sexual 12 year old."
>calls the author Victor Nabokov.

Amusing:
>Walking to class
>guy stops me, "Oh, I know what you are!"
>he realises I'm a lolita.
>goes on about how he hasn't seen anyone dressed that way in the area in a long time
>tells me about a vintage store that sells petticoats nearby
It was a pretty nice to see how happy and friendly he was.

>>8966428
>I do get a lot of people touching my clothing without asking
I'm in the same boat anon. Some woman asked if I could lift up my skirt so she could take a picture of my petticoat.
>>

this is why i dint take photos with people outside the con. Obviously most people in plain clothes at the con are still nerds and just like your costume if they ask for a picture, but straight up people who have no idea what i am- no.
>>
>>8966315
Muggle was intended to be a slur? You're not thinking of mudblood? Because pretty much every character in the series use muggle, and the only other terms used are clearly intended to be read as overly diplomatic. I really have no idea how a term that mostly just implies "unaware of a rather large and often considered strange community" is worse than "normie", especially when most cosplayers/jfashioners hold "normal" jobs and otherwise lead pretty normal lives.

>And cosplayed Homestuck
It's almost like we've grown to expect negative responses to everything we do and are shocked when people who aren't into the comic give us anything resembling a compliment.
>>
>>8966541
I still think it sounds a little snooty, like you're putting yourselves in the "oh we're super cool wizards" category

Besides normie is kinda toungeincheek
>>
>>8966580
This is pretty OT so sage, but I think it's pretty clear through the books that no, the wizarding way isn't superior, the wizarding community face a lot of similar problems to any other community and they're not really better at dealing with it either, so while I see that it can be read that way I still think that it's more apt as a term.

To keep on topic: another favourite is the three times people have tried to recruit meetup attendees to various sects, one guy got really into telling us about ancient runes depicting an alien colonization and was shocked that we weren't familiar with the "scripture". I've mentioned that one before, though.

I'm terrible with green text, but once my friend and I were going somewhere in really casual coords, and a bus driver pulled over his entire bus just to tell us that we looked pretty and he wished he had a camera so he could take a picture of us to show his daughter (or something like that, I forget the details).

>>
>wearing schoolgirl uniform at con
>friend's wig is falling off so we go to the bathroom to fix it
>i feel a tug on my skirt from behind

Okay maybe not that bad of a horror story but I still think about it today. I mean, maybe she was just trying to tell me that my skirt was riding up or something. I usually take a train or a bus to the meets since the local comm is like an hour away from me, so I hear comments that go from "Where are you going dolly?", "Look a real life doll", and some times people are really nice, like this one time a girl told me my dress was pretty and vintage looking.

I will say, it seems like at least newspaper journalists are decent, or in my experience they've been pretty decent. News anchors are just looking for things to sensationalize for good TV. You can make fun of people through paper, sure, but most local papers worth their salt don't have time to waste on trying to make fun of cosplayers as opposed to just reporting on a local event that happened.

The only decent news station I've seen is whatever local Hartford news channel that goes to Connecticon. I think they're there every year? Or at least they are a lot, maybe I'm wrong but the last time I saw one of their news stories it was pretty respectful, they asked questions about people's costumes and showcased some cool/fun stuff and seemed to get a kick out of everything.

I cosplayed Sadness from Inside Out at a local con and while there were lots of really cute kids getting excited and even a few adults there was one kid in particular that made me feel absolutely terrible.

>cheerleading con going on at same time
>keep running into soccer mom and her three kids
>every time they all just stare at me in silence
>waiting for friend outside of bathroom
>soccer mom goes in leaving her kids outside with me
>youngest couldn't have been any older than 6
>she turns around to whisper something to other two
>the oldest rolls her eyes
>"She's not even the real thing, she's just a person in a costume!"
>youngest now looks like someone just ran over her cat

>we all awkwardly pose for picture with her
>still not sure if she was excited and actually thought I was Alice or just wanted to make fun of us

Not a normie reaction but actually the flipside, convention goers reacting to a normie.

>Starts directly with "I know how weird I look, feel free to laught..."
>One of the guys "It's ok, it looks cool"
>The other guy "Yeah, it looks cool, but I wouldn't wear it"
We couldn't stop laughing at that for the rest of the meet.

and one somewhat horrific on insight, I wasn't even in lolita, just something pretty casual looking:
>"The first time I saw you I honestly thought you were a weirdo because of your looks, and didn't want to share a class with you, but you are actually really nice."
Is really creepy how people react to someone that doesn't wear a hoodie and leggings everywhere.

I also have a Halloween related one.

>headed to a Halloween meet wearing witchy Halloween lolita coord
>pointy hat, wand, the works
>have to walk a few blocks to get to public transportation.
>middle of the day, lots of other foot traffic
>area is used to seeing weirdos and too polite to say anything so I don't get many comments
>suddenly homeless angry man is yelling at me from across the sidewalk
>"YOU NEED JESUS, YOU MUST STOP THIS DEVIL WORSHIP!!"
>scuttle away as fast as I can in chunky heels
>now people are really staring
>homeless man follows me for several more blocks shouting about Jesus
>finally manage to get away
>guess he found something else to yell at in his drug induced rage

It was probably the most terrifying moment I've had in lolita even though it was the middle of the day and there were a bunch of people around.
Have another odd one from recently.

>out on date with bf wearing creepycute lolita coord
>decide to go to the mall as he needs some new shoes
>walking around a corner to get on escalator down
>see 15 y/o girl in some sort of alternative fashion, green hair
>her eyes bug out when she sees me and I try and smile a bit while we make eye contact then continue on my way
>have to go down another escalator
>oh green hair is also going down
>meet eyes again as shes staring right at me
>suddenly realize shes following us
>"boyfriend I'm going to go into jewelrystore while you go to shoestore, lets meet back up"
>suddenly green hair is standing next to me in jewelry store
>still staring
>wait for her to speak to me while I browse, figure she has questions about wtf I'm wearing
>mentally prepare myself
>suddenly green hair, her mom and the group she was with is gone
>okay.jpg

I think it would have been less weird if she actually ended up talking to me, but instead I just kept seeing her staring at me out of the corner of my eye. Why so creepy green hair?

>Years later
>for the 20th anniversary of the con, it's INSIDE the town.
>Medieval town means short and little street: stands are located in the various squares in the city, sometimes 20 min walk far away one from the other.
>you walk inside the town, so you are surrounded by the townsfolk, not prepared for an invasion of 240.00 weaab/cosplayer/nerds

Off topic but I sat here reading your post while scratching at a speck of dirt or something on my screen and when I scrolled down, I realized it was that random period at the bottom of your post.

Alright where to start

Horrific for younger me/Amusing for current me:
>First con ever: ALA 2010
>Me, younger sister and mother (it should probably be mentioned that my mom isn't terrible looking)
>me and sister wittle about the con, while mom hangs out in room all con watching csi marathon and an occasional smoke on those glorious balconies
>room over guy smokes too; becomes a friend with my mom. He didn't seem very interested in going to the con himself. Spends most of the con with mom on balcony smoking and talking. I think his room had alcohol too, so they made drinks throughout the day
>Fastforward. Have dinner in the sports bar; mom invites guy since they became bffs
>he get fucked up and tries to kiss my mom. My mom isn't having any of it, but doesn't just leave him there
>she becomes wonderwoman and carries his drunk ass back to his room all while this guy is trying to make out with her. People asks if she needs help and she says she does this before.
> me and my sister saw our mom go from 0 to 100 in a dinner

Something that's not con-related but /cgl/ related
> I have an itabag that I use as my everyday bag/purse
> 99% of the time, reactions consist of "Nice bag". That's cool yo
> but when children see it
> WOAH LOOK CARTOONS
> they get way to close and look like they're about to start pulling on the charms
> I already hate children
> anytime this happens, I nope out of whatever I'm doing

Not sure what to classify this story as:
>High school, Halloween
>Does a makeshift outfit of Badou from DOGS; he's got a gimp eye, so I put one of my Darth Maul-looking contacts in that eye under the eyepatch for pictures
>everyone just assumed I'm a gang member or something
>one teacher asked me if I had a hard time seeing with the eyepatch (in all honesty I'm practically blind anyway, so not really)
>take off the eyepatch and say not really
>everyone trips balls thinking something is wrong with my eye
> "it's just a contact guys"
>>
>>8971152
That was pretty badass of your mom.

>looking cute and having a great day
>pass super christian football mom drooling over gaudy crosses
>hear her laughing at me as I walk away
>nbd, I'm used to it
>start bumping into her constantly through this maze of an antique store
>could be an accident, could be her purposely following me
>every time she's laughing at me and being obvious about it
>her two pizza faced brats having a giggle too
>purposely start doubling back on the aisles, seeing if she's following me
>she's definitely following me around to make fun of me
>after an hour I start to follow her around the store
>she starts feeling akward, ushering her brats faster through the aisles
>husband looks annoyed at her since minute one of the encounter
>now he's looking pissed off she's trying to rush him away
>after 10 mins of trailing them I leave to finish shopping
>can faintly hear the husband arguing with her in the distance

My dad has started cosplaying with me since my younger brother's passing. It's a way we kinda honor him.
Mostly it's Disney father daughter stuff
Soo..
>Be Ariel wearing a cosplay inspired by a figurine of her on waves as I have no balance to attempt walking with a mermaid tight tail
>Clearly over-religious mom starts harassing me about the sins of whatever despite her poor kids looking delighted at seeing Ariel
>try to ignore her we live near 3 baptist churches who are hellions about how much better they are
>being 4'11 usually means I'm a go to target
>Will not stop following me around the store my dad went to use the restroom in
>Trying to order coffee for the ride to the con with this hag belittling me until
> "Is there a problem?"
>She whirls around to see my 6'3 armored up King Triton dad glaring down at her
>Looks as if she's shit herself as she ushers her poor embarrassed kids away from the "hell sinners" or whatever

I could only find two things that related to the words Candy Cat.

Candy the Cat from a Five Nights at Freddies game

and some cat from a little kids show.

Im going to guess they thought FNAF

See, I'm not into FNAF, and I never would have guessed that any parent would let their kid interact with that fanbase. That's horrifying.

I'm wondering if she's got in her head you two fetishists and can't spew religious nonsense during work hours. So she settles for being a cunt.
Only saying as I had a neighbor who worked at a Gallery here but home she as known as insane paranoid christian mom. If she didn't like you at work she showed it by being a snarky shit stain. Apparently having one anime fandom shirt on when taking a friend meant I was a Satanist to her.
>>
Reading all of these Halloween ones reminded me of the only odd Halloween experience I've ever had.

>cosplaying Sailor V from the manga for Halloween as a tween
>friends are generic costumes, think Ren Faire or something
>we all go trick or treating
>ring the bell at some neighbor's house
>she immediately starts cooing over my friend's outfits and saying they look so precious as fairies
>neither is wearing wings but okay?
>goes to hand me candy
>"Who are you supposed to be?"
>doesn't even hesitate to basically toss a single piece of candy at me and then shut the door

Other than that, over 10+ years I've not had any weird stories since people tend to usually see me and think I look harmless enough to ask what's going on/what the convention is.
Most recent one I've had was pretty sweet actually.

>in Halloween themed lolita coord
>at the local mall across from the convention trying to find umbrellas since it rained all weekend
>check on my phone, it says shoe store should have umbrellas
>friend and I head to the shop, ask the lady working the register
>all they have is children sized umbrellas in stock
>asks me about the convention across the street
>seems to know more than most people, asks me if they have costume contests and stuff
>explain it a bit, she seems pretty interested
>tells me I'd definitely win a contest because I've got the prettiest costume she's seen all day

Out and about, not even wearing jfash or anything fancy. Just a cute short dress, otk boots and a pink wig while walking about with a friend in the Chicago down town cloud gate area.

>A group of teens walk up to me
>ask to take pictures
>are sweethearts and ask my friend to be in the shot too.

Then we head to a play ground of sorts

>Little kids everywhere
>all telling me they love the hair
>asking to touch it
>they're all sweethearts with clean hands
>super gentle too

Another
>Chilling at cloud gate
>trying to take an artsy picture because I'm a huge fag
>Three people take out phones and aim at me when I finally pose.

I used to be very socially awkward, extremely introverted but I've been meaning to take myself out of the rut... I've liked cute things forever, but wasn't brave enough to go full on with anything, so baby steps. Sometimes I'll go out with the wig, others I'll wear a petticoat under a normalfag dress and the positive responses are amazing, so much that if I ever got a negative one I wouldn't even care.

I remember having one day where I had all round weird/kind of shitty experiences, but it doesn't happen too much in my city as I think people are mostly used to it by now?

>me, dressed as Dynasty Ahri from LoL
>walking with normie friends after the convention, just got some bubble tea and feeling good
>crossing at an intersection, random middle aged dude looks me up and down as we cross paths
>hear him ranting 'what's with all the fucking freaks in the city today?' to his wife
>not feeling as good anymore

Also on the same day on the way home-

>catching train back with friends
>used to getting stares in costume here and there, i understand people generally just want to check out what's going on
>notice this one dude who is staring at me nonstop
>getting kind of freaked out, sort of glance at him and indicate that i notice his staring, hoping he'll stop
>get fed up, turn my head fully and just stare straight back at him
>creepy dude literally just keeps staring me down, we hold eye contact for like 5-10 seconds before i stop because it's just too unsettling
>have to deal with him just staring me down until he gets off

Otherwise any negative experiences are generally just people staring, i've been lucky in that I never have people confronting me or anything. However, I have had some nice experiences!

>Browsing some cute shops after city's Jap Festival, dressed as Guild Marm from MH4U
>feeling pretty self conscious as the cosplay is pretty bright and I have a giant feather sticking out of my head, trying to keep to myself while looking at dresses
>Middle aged woman is browsing near me, comes up to me suddenly
>preparing to explain why i'm dressed like this to her
>'Oh, are you entering a cosplay competition?'
>Pleasant surprise, answer that I was just cosplaying for fun

Where's the strangest normie place you've seen a cosplayer? A few years back on my local cosplay comm page a bunch of Homestucks were arranging a gathering at a small town carnival event and I made the mistake of asking them to reconsider. This wasn't really a carney carnival the only "ride" was one if those bouncy slides and the rest is games and booths run by townsfolk groups. The Hamsteaks started to tear me up for my ignorance and censorship or whatever. until one of my friends who earned major respect for his Gamzee came forward to tell them to calm the fuck down and that it wasn't really the best place for a HS gqthering. Not that any place besides a con or private event is.

It's probably not going to happen, though. There's plenty of cute cottages in my country but commuting to and from work from a rural area is a nightmare.
>>
>>8974347
Honestly my dream is to own a cottage/cabin in a temperate place (NW USA, England, NZ, etc. ) with some alpaca, a relaxed job that I feel happy and passionate about, the wardrobe and confidence to wear what I want (mori, lolita, otome looks) every day, a cute blonde pomeranian named Purin, and a BMW Isetta by 30. It's not like those costumes are even revealing. Otakon is honestly the worst, I've never gotten anything worse than bemusement outside any other con. On the other hand I've always gotten nice responses when I wear lolita in my city.

Another time with the same friend, a middle-aged woman came rushing up all excited and asked for a pic. Turns out her 14 year old stepdaughter was into lolita, and the woman had just bought her her first dress from bodyline for a birthday present, it was really sweet how excited she was.

So, today and tomorrow is ToraCon at RIT in Rochester, and I putz around as the Lone Wanderer from Fallout because I don't watch any Chinese cartoons.

It's interesting whenever I see a mom or dad with their son or daughter. The dad sometimes is wearing a football sweatshirt (normally the Bills) and some type of Bass Pro Shop hat as they follow their under aged kid around that's wearing some sort of anime outfit, with pink hair or whatever.

They look dead inside, they don't want to be there, they have no idea what anything is, but they do it for their children because they love them, and even if they don't quite understand their interests, will support it none the less.

To me, they are the real MVPs of these conventions.

Now, tour groups that wind up seeing the convention and go into faces saying, "wtf I don't even," those are funny to watch as the tour guide tries to explain.

>loves the way i dress
>thinks it's cute without turning it into a fetish
>always asking about my comm friends and clothes
dad:
>thinks it's cosplay and occasionally sends me articles about cosplay
>otherwise doesn't care
mom:
>hates it
>tells me to stop calling attention to myself
>gets mad when i get a package (when i'm at home for breaks) because she knows it's probably clothes
ex bf:
>fetishized it
ex gf:
>thought it was weird

I think the story implied that she's a lesbian...

Oh wow I have never seen a mother react to her child that way dressing up. I only ever see mothers react like that if like their teenage daughter is dressing slutty. But what problem in the world would your mother have with tasteful lolita?

I'm confused. Does lesbian sex not count as sex?

She hates it when I do anything she considers "flashy". She doesn't really care that lolita is one of the more conservative and elegant alternative fashions out there, she thinks because it's out of the norm that it must be bad

stop derailing. take your debate about virginity being a social construct elsewhere

I feel you Anon, my mom is the same way. She absolutely despises lolita and the attention it brings, be it positive or negative. She wants me to blend in with everyone else and stop liking 'weirdo clothes'.

I once asked if she'd rather have me dress slutty and waste money at parties to get shitfaced and make out with random guys. She said she'd rather have me do that as opposed to wearing lolita because then at least I'd be acting a bit more like other girls my age.

Ha, I got the same bingo as you (although much less elsewhere). Does it still count as your parents being proud of you if your psycho mom sometimes hates you for being yourself and sometimes is proud that you're successful?

Anyway, my normalfag story is that someone finally lifted up my dress while I was in lolita. I was at a prog rock concert at a very nice theater and some old normalfag woman just came up and lifted. I'd heard people talk about this but it's still blowing my mind, on what level is this socially acceptable?

Did a Jacket cosplay recently, scared some Normies.
>Went with rooster head Jacket
>Fake baseball bat and airsoft Mac 10.
>Had tape recorder with some of Jackets lines from Payday 2.
>Walking to meet up with friends to go to this small con where I live. Have mask already on and carrying bat.
>Got Hotline Miami music playing on speakers I have attached to my jacket
>Normies giving me looks, none saying anything. Being 6 feet 4 inches helps
>Make it to friends and see that a normal is picking on my friend who is dressed as a character from Sunset Overdrive.
>Stand behind normal with my tape recorder and press the play button
>"Do you know what time it is?".jpg
>Normie jumps almost ten fucking feet in fear, spins around, sees me and books it.
>Feel like hero
Good times, plus we pulled some shit as the Payday gang a few years back.
Pic related. MFW a girl dressed as that goddess lady from Dark Souls, complete with big bosoms came up and gave me a kiss on the cheek with my mask off and said my costume was nice and that I was cute. Oh, and we danced to Hotline Miami music.

It's Baltimore. Everyone's an asshole. I just paid $3500 for a 3-day professional conference and as I'm walking out of the convention center on Sunday, I get heckled for wearing a suit. Exact taunt was, "Are you some sorta queer?"
>well dressed
>woman
>not a pants suit

Replace "girl" with "boy". I'm so normalfag.

Here's a story though.

>Go to drink bubbletea with friends after AN2015 on sunday
>be the only one in cosplay (Lucina from Fire Emblem)
>Forgot to bring street clothes but whatever I'm too tired to care and I was craving bubbletea
>friends and I sit at our usual booth
>friend who works there takes our orders and fawns over my cosplay before going to make it
>this family with two small children are hardcore staring at us from across the room
>I'm wary but also tired and hot so I slip my wig off
>children gasp and the father laughs
>the dad says: "I was just thinking that I need hair like yours." while patting his bald head
>we all laugh
>boyfriend puts wig on and makes faces at the kids until they leave

I seriously thought he was going to make fun of me. It was a pleasant surprise.
