Pittsburgh's local anime convention is coming up, and much to my surprise, I'm still going.
The schedule is finally out, and I have to say - for an anime convention, there sure aren't very many anime panels. Good thing we have a bunch of social justice panels, though, right? Right?

the theme they have going this year is great inspiration for my coordinates. it's nice to see variety in a convention, and it's a nice break from the usual midwest cons. this year will be my first year.

This will be my 7th or 8th year going and all I've seen is improvement over the years. I hope you enjoy yourself, it looks like it will be a good year especially for those interested in fashion programming.
They do bill it as an "Anime, Gaming, Music, Fashion and Japanese Pop Culture Convention" and there's plenty of all that. Plus there seems to be a lot to do this year beyond panels.
I'm definitely going to catch a few of Charles Dunbar's panels. That guy's really entertaining.
Tekko is owned by the Japanese Culture Society of Pittsburgh. Their goal is to target Tekko as a Japanese Pop Culture Convention, not as an anime convention. They want their to be panels to teach people about Japan.
There are so many panels, but all I see is people bitching about like three "SJW" panels. Which panels are SJW that I'm not seeing? There is a "Don't call yourself weeaboo" one, Sailor Moon, and a Robotech. What am I not seeing, that everyone else is?

I mean, don't get me wrong - LGBT issues are important. Those types of panels (mush less TWO of them) just don't belong at conventions imo, regardless of the fact that they tend to draw the crowd who would discuss them.

They decide to book Japanese musical guests, which is kinda refreshing compared to smaller growing cons that get the regular con-circuit musical guests. I think any con with a lolita presence has to have Misako as a guest at least one time?

Selling is super slow. People are super nice. Although, lots of underage today. Tomorrow should be (from what I've heard) 40% bigger than Friday/Sunday. I mean, place is nice. But I was standing in a booth all day. I think it's a nice and cozy convention so far. I kept seeing the same people until like 6 pm. I was there since 8 am until 8 pm. I'm a very happy and normal looking vendor. So if anyone takes notice to us, say hello.

I just got back from tekko. Went as okabe from Steins;Gate. Met a bunch of really cool people, and managed to get a whole group of cosplayers together.
By the last day, we had me, a Daru, a Mayuri, a Ruka, and a Faris. Got a lot of photo requests too.
Glad I went, even if I wasn't a big fan of all of the panels.
