I've got to unfortunately defile the "how to grill" part already with a binding question: any good binders for bigger cup sizes? I saw the Ultimate whatever on Underworks and a few reviews on there seem to imply it might work, but I'd rather have a few anon experiences.

I really want to get into this, but Idk if I have the body/face for it. Last year for Halloween me and my friends went as the sailor scouts as a joke, but I get into it for real, maybe I could get some input?
>>
>>8932825
body you can hide to some degree (assuming you're not mchugelarge)
face is the real killer of traps

what do you have?
>>
>>8931472
http://www.gc2b.co/#!store/c205c/products/white-half-binder

I wear a size S, make sure to meaure yourself to be double sure though. The other plus about these binders is you can put them on over your head instead of having to step into them.
>>
If I'm looking into pantyhose for my cosplay do they have their own size chart or can I just go "Alright I need them in an L size"? Also what are some decent fake nails I should get/look into?
>>
>>8932830
>what do you have?

what do you mean like makeup/outfit wise or like my facial/body aesthetic
>>
>>8932849
Typically most stockings/tights ect have a size chart that goes mostly by height.
For fake nails maybe look into some press on nails. Unless you want the kind you'll have to paint and glue on yourself
>>

Are there any specific sites where I can order pantyhose or would something like Amazon be fine? Don't have the balls to buy them in store.
>>
>>8932993
Sockdreams maybe, I'm not sure about clothes shopping on Amazon
>>
>>8932993
Aw c'mon man. It's really satisfying when you get up to courage to buy things at stores. Especially makeup, I would have had a clue what I was doing at first if I didn't ask the girls at Sephora for help.
>>
What do you do with eyebrows? I don't want to look like a faggot for asking someone to make my eyebrows cute.
>>
>>8932993
Just do it. The make up employees are very chill and would totally love to teach you to a bit about makeup. Just say you're a cosplayer and show her a couple examples.
Literally just walk into target or some other store and ask someone about makeup, or just let them come to you in the makeup department.
>>
>>8934222
Men get their eyebrows waxed all the time. Make an appointment at your local salon/spa and have them teach you how to fill in your brows while you're at it-- most offer to do it after waxing anyway.

Going to cosplay as Eila at some point. Having so much trouble getting a jacket though.

I don't really want to buy a costume, Id like to have it be more personal. I found a perfect jacket, but they don't ship overseas. And they won't even ship to a forwarding address for me to pay extra to ship.

Why do this? It's a fucking jacket. All they'd have to do is send it to some warehouse then they'd send it to me. I'm doing all the work for them.

Where does one obtain some women's shoes/heels that aren't incredibly small?

I don't feel like I have big feet but as a men's 10-10½, various size conversion charts say I'd be about a women's 12, which seems hard to find. Anybody have any tips?

>>8941527

>>
>>8941527
Don't buy that stock cosplay picture, for starters. You, theoretically, CAN balance it out.
Make your cape super super tiered and enforce it so that it spreads out to balance your shoulders, cinch in your waist so that the belt looks oversized on it, make everything else BIG. If you have a huge hat, cape and boots it's going to balance your height. Make custom 'bandages' for your leg, get a fluffy wig and put in extra wefts.

Basically, balance everything so that if someone saw a single photo of you with a plain background they wouldn't be able to tell your height.

How about something like this?
(Excuse my bad photoshop skills)
Something like this but with a bigger belt, move the bottom edge up a bit, wear shorts under it.
It would kinda look like a male version of the same outfit.
I think shorts would ruin the cosplay a little bit, but it would make sure i wont look like a cringy cosplayer at least

FtM crossplayer here, with a weird question. Has anyone broken a rib then went back into a binder? How long should a person wait?

Back story on this question

>My doctor deemed me able to go back to normal work about three weeks ago
>said nothing about if I can bind my chest despite asking

Not sure if it's a dumb idea to even think about shoving myself into a binder so soon.

So, I'm not trans or anything, but I've always really liked Lolita and frilly j-fashion stuff, and I've recently decided to tentatively look at getting into it. I don't really want to try to pass as a girl, I just want to participate in the ""culture"" I guess, wear neat dresses and that sort of thing. Would it be too weird if I rolled up to a con or meet as just a dude in a dress? Also is there some kind of like "Lolita for dudes" maybe involving suits or something?
>>
>>8944431
Yes, there are different thicknesses of nylon and so some will be more see through and some will be less so.

>>8944470
There is a boystyle option if you want. As for lolita, it is fine to be a dude and wear it, but good ones are trying to pass as a girl or at least are making sure they do things like shave, use makeup, wig, etc to be polished.

>>
>>8946371
If you're not avid on passing, you shouldn't give up. I have never heard anyone give crossplayers shit for not passing, except for /cgl/. Regarding MtF, people will already value your courage for putting on a dress or skirt in public.
So if you just want to have fun and wear a cute dress for a day, there is no reason why you should give up other than that some anon might post pictures of you in some future crossdressing thread on /cgl/ and throw a tantrum because you don't look exactly like their cute 14-year-old waifu.
And maybe you can even pass, at least to people who are not expecting a crossdresser. You won't know until you try. Facial hair can be gotten rid of (depending on how much you have, it may be more or less painful), and makeup can hide shitty skin. Bigger issues are things like face form, jaw size and body shape.
But as I said, nobody will bite your head off for not passing. Remember, there are men out there who wear short dresses without shaving their legs, and they have a good time, too. Not that I'd really like that, because getting rid of body hair is fucking cumbersome and even painful, and they're getting off easy, but still, if they're having fun, you can have fun, too.
>>
>>8946451

I don't really feel qualified to give advice, but it's the same fundamentals as singing and voice acting; just strengthening all your vocal muscles (singing scales, consonants etc.) gives you more range and color to mess around with.
For girls I think the kind of shota voice they do in anime is the best you can get without getting longterm vocal damage.
That aside, does it sound like a real person?

>people will already value your courage for putting on a dress or skirt in public.
If I'm honest I think this is complete bullshit
>>
>>8948696
It actually isn't, though.

>have never heard anyone give crossplayers shit for not passing
The first time I crossplayed I've had a beard for years, so I didn't know what to expect when I shaved it. Needless to say, there was a clearly visible beard shadow, and I couldn't work around it with lipstick and foundation alone, so I clearly didn't pass.
Despite of this, everyone I talked to or overheard was really happy about a male cosplayer that crossplayed on top of that. Maybe people were talking shit behind my back, probably a few were. But if so, they were kind enough not to make me notice.
Since then I have improved, but I have met up with a small group of male crossplayers at a con a few weeks ago that did not use fake boobs or much make-up (just a bit of foundation and eye shadow), so they didn't really pass either. Still, everyone I heard was very positive about them. Maybe some were not, but again, those people kept their mouths shut.

Maybe it's a regional difference. I'm in Europe, maybe things are different in the US.

>people will already value your courage for putting on a dress or skirt in public.
I personally still don't pass if you take a close look. But I have noticed that people don't really care about someone wearing a standard costume if they think it's a girl; but once they notice I'm a guy, they get really happy.
So at least in my experience male cosplayers definitely get bonus points just because they are male, and crossplayers even more so.

Also, see Ladybaby.

I agree that people may be talking shit behind your back (which is why people do it on /cgl/), but in person I have never heard anyone do so.

So are butt-ugly girls which throw on a shitty bought cosplay. You're not worse off if you're a guy.

>also ladybaby is a shitty meme band trying to add edge to baby metal with a drag dude.
I hate a lot of popular things. Nonetheless, they are popular, which means that a not-so-small number of people like it, and I wouldn't be so fast to blame marketing.

>also no one is saying shit to your face? of course not, but that's mot indicative of support it's more likely out of fear. with all the sjw shit i'd be surprised that you don't get more asspats.
I'd rather predict that with SJW people would not care about crossdressers because that shouldn't be something special. In any case, SJW here isn't so strong that crossdressers could call out somebody just because they didn't tell them how beautiful they are.
If anything, the absence of negative comments in person is not out of fear but because of human decency.

>hell, one of the lolita threads has people white knighting a brolita in makeup with a full beard and he looks like shit.
>lolita threads
There's the problem.

>but "huur duuur clothing has no gender association nwn"
Indeed sometimes female clothing can look good on a man without the man trying to look like a female. I can't say anything about this specific instance, though, because I'm doing my best to avoid lolita threads.

>yea most people aren't going to be negative in public, they wait till they're in private.
Of course. But why would that anon care who just wants to wear a cute dress for a day?

So you're saying that people feel forced to give positivity because of SJW; I'm saying that they probably genuinely like it because they think cosplaying and cons should be fun and don't need to be perfect. While I still prefer my explanation because it's the simpler one, regarding the original issue the result is the same: If that anon wants to try crossplaying, he's very unlikely to have a bad time.

I'm 28 and I haven't given up just yet. Then again, I started when I was 27 so it's not like I have much of a reference point to compare to...

People who say that "non-asians shouldn't crossplay" or "after a certain age you shouldn't crossplay" are probably homos and/or pedophiles who are only saying that because they use crossplayers exclusively as fap material. You guys should just ignore them.

That's not what they're saying. They're saying if your goal is to look passable as female it helps to be asian, and there haven't been many good examples of non-asian passable crossplayers posted. Most of them have been gags like those sailor senshi. But if you want to crossplay and have fun you should still do it and try anyway.

It's true, people are really reluctant to give you shit to your face, especially in a con environment where everyone's weird and they're not guaranteed to have social backing for their bigotry. Hell, I've walked through downtown Birmingham in a dress, not even remotely passing, and didn't get more than surprised looks from passerbyers. They'll be judging me in private, but that's okay. I judge smokers/furries/fat people the same way. I'm not looking for acceptance, just freedom from harassment.

My problem is that I don't like makeup. Not how it looks (me or girls), nor how it feels on my face. It's a personal bias I know should get over, but can't. Instead, I look for characters I can get away with not using more than what's needed to hide beard shadow. Thinking of cosplaying Ougi Oshino later this year (pic related). Doesn't seem hard or involved, she's pretty odd looking as-is.

P.S. - any advice for just obscuring the face hair? I've been using foundation + some crap my sister recommended and it doesn't work.

Look up drag beard cover tutorials. There are lots. Ditto for brow cover but it's lots of makeup, several layers and a good set spray + powder. The better 'natural' tutorials don't look 'made up' but there's still a ton to put on. I don't recommend drag type makeup tutorials for anything but beard, brows and learning a subtle softening contour if you have sharper masculine features. Everything else is way too much.
>>
>>8952974
Honestly drag makeup doesn't work for cosplay; you might as well be wearing a silicone mask. Just use a depilatory and bleach the roots or get it waxed
Or wear a cute facemask, whatever

Here's my problem with crossplay that I've experienced so far on the east coast. As a disclaimer I've met men and women who crossplay strictly for their own aesthetic so this isn't a blanket statement. On the male to female side of things, women in this community seem to get off on pressuring their friend-zone boys into dressing like girls to make them safer to be around. In general I've witnessed some of the most weirdly distorted fears of sexuality among the cosplay community as a whole. I'm not sure what the common thread is here but I've seen way too frequently crossplay used as a pressuring tool to manipulate some boy who has a crush on his friend who's a cosplayer.

As an example I cosplay with a group that has a few girls, we attended Anime Boston last year. One of the girls was kind of safe-zone dating this boy (No real interest in him but liked his company) from our GameStop. She kept telling him how cute he'd be as (female character) for our group. He ended up doing it despite the fact I knew he wasn't comfortable with it. I remember sitting next to him and my other male partner in the car on the way to first day. We looked at each other and were like "This is going to turn into a drama." He really just wanted to impress her and try to develop their relationship. Long fucking story short, she lead him on and was surprised when he tried to tell her how he felt. So, as a cautionary tale to boys who get recommendations from their cosplay girlies to crossplay... Only do it if it's for you! I think that's kind of the life lesson of all cosplay but specifically for crossplay, DO IT FOR NO ONE ELSE BUT YOURSELF.

Wat.

This sounds like they are using some doormat type of guy and make them their personal "gay male best friend" substitute to cope with their problem of dealing with guys and create a "safe zone".

Suggesting crossplay for lulz, because it could be an actual nice and funny idea and does actually fit in some way is one thing, but using it as an instrument of manipulation? Just wtf.

My Hanayo wig came in so I thought I'd try my first time ever doing crossplay makeup. Basically wanted to do a trial and conservative test to see how well I can and could look as well as get advice/criticism from y'all if that's alright. I used concealer, foundation, and eyeliner (I didn't want to use too much so it's a bit of a thin layer). My mascara dryed up so couldn't use that. I don't have any lip gloss or blush yet (buying them tomorrow, but not sure what color) and the concealer didn't really cover the blue hue of facial hair. Needless to say I literally looked at myself in the mirror for almost a good hour. I absolutely love looking cute and I hate that every photo I took doesn't even 100% capture that.

>>8952904
I'm going to ACEN as well. Hope we run into eachother

your eyes look really cute and your eyebrows looks feminine. In the photo the blue shades don't show very well, but if they are very visible to you then try mixing a bit of orange lipstick into your foundation or any orange hue for that matter.

Also what Hanayo outfit will you be wearing?

>>
>>8954277
Hmm you have potential because of your features are more delicate but this is not quite there yet.

Because you have a defined face, minimal makeup on you will be very underwhelming. To be quite honest, I could barely even tell you have makeup on here. In my opinion, eye makeup is what make you stand out the most as a cosplayer in general (not even just crossplayer!), and good eye makeup will seriously make a world of difference on a majority of people. So even though it's daunting, practice, practice practice that eyeliner, and eyeshadow! I suggest practicing false lashes as well, because sometime even mascara is not enough.

That wig would be look fine on someone with a smaller face but it looks a little short and thin for Hanayo on you. It's a shame because the style and color look nice, but you may have to consider getting a slightly longer and fuller wig. this goes along with the advice upthread; make everything big in proportion to make certain feature smaller. A fuller wig will make your shoulders smaller.
>>
>>8954311
>>8954329
Thanks for feedback. My only other cosplay experience was with Kanji Tatsumi and I was told with makeup "less is more", which I guess works for Kanji but not Hanayo. I also didn't want to overdue eyeliner either. As for the wig I found out that there were straps attached in the back and I forgot to unhook them to give my head more room so that's probably why it looks small on me. My plan tomorrow is to get a few more things of makeup, but again I'm still new to crossplaying and I don't want to fuck up and buy the wrong makeup/color and waste money.

It looks like you rolled in dirt because you used a color that's too dark to contour, or you didn't blend enough. You really only need a couple shades darker than your skin tone.

You want to contour around your temples and brow bone especially to narrow the top part of your face -- this will help reduce the heart shape and make your face more of an even width from top to bottom. You'll also want to contour gently around your jaw and chin to sharpen the point of your jawbone and slightly reduce the prominence of your chin.

I think i can pass for a girl, i have very little body hair, and a rather small frame,
my face looks a little more androgynous now that i have slightly longer hair
>>
>>8962902
I think a good way to start would be doing some standard makeup (Foundation, eye shadow, eyeliner, blush, mascara, etc) and seeing how you look. From there yo can find your strengths and weaknesses. As always you could post a picture of yourself and get some advice, although some of us will be blunt
>>
>>8962902
That's a pretty ambitous choice for a first time but hey, go for it man! You never know til you try. You'll need to create a feminine figure so look into tutorials on how to pad up your chest and hips to feed the illusion. The shorts will make it challenging though, I'd opt for a slight inaccuracy by wearing the pants abit higher to hide the fact that male hipbones don't tend to be that wide apart.
>>
>>8963253

I'll look up some tutorials, and some of my friends are actually really into cosplay so i could ask them for tips too.
As for the picture, maybe i'll post a test shot after getting the wig haha

>>8963268

I've liked her for a while now, and now that i have time and some spare cash i'm gonna have a go at it.
Her older costume would probably be easier to pull off, but since i happened to get a good price for this one i thought why not. Between this and that, the rest of her outfits are probably too revealing for me to pull off with my maiden attempt.
>>
Do you all use perfume or anything of that sort when you're crossplaying? Or do you just apply regular cologne or deo?
>>
>>8963515
Anti perspirant deo works well and is great for cosplay. Perfume or deo doesn't matter to me as long as it smells good. As far as i kmow you don't need to smell feminine, just look feminine heh
>>
>>8963940
I figured, but I wanted to make sure. Just don't want people going "Oh hey I like your crosspl-WHY DON'T YOU SMELL FEMININE"
>>
>>8964019
It only matters if you're stank.
Or if you're like me and just like smelling fem
>>
Wear deo anyway even if you don't think you stink, especially if you're out all day. You will stink and smell like sweat.

The active ingredient is the same for male/female, buy something that doesn't smell like old spice or axe body spray shit.
>>
>>8963940
I subscribe to the belief that getting a nice feminine smelling perfume is pretty key for perfecting the illusion. I may just have an addiction to nice smelling perfumes though...

>>
>>8963383
I find that for crossplaying, choosing a revealing costume can actually work out as a plus point if you have decently passable features. It helps tip the mental balance in the viewer's mind which argues between "no way that's a guy's ________" and "he/she has really manly _______" of course the more you have of the former the better
>>
>>8967006
Yea, I think this one will work, the shorts and top will hide most of my male features since the other two are dresses and I dont think im ready for that haha
>>
>>8967163
Rethink this, a skirt with some floof will be MUCH easier to pull off than shorts if you have narrow hips
>>
>>8967379
Unfortunately they are those that show off almost your entire legs and panties, so no floof
>>
Potential first time crossplayer here. Can anyone recommend a good way to pull in my waistline just a bit in order to get a more feminine figure? I've been working hard to get fit and slim up, but I'd still to give my waist just a touch more of an hourglass. I figure some kind of waist cincher or corset, but I'd like something that wouldn't look too obvious under a more form fitting suit.
>>
Anybody ever crossplay Megumin? I'm thinking about doing her as my next crossplay. Will probably be my first crossplay where I actually use make-up.
>>
>>8967486
Unfortunately the only thing i know that will really pull in a waistline for shape is a corset. You can try shapewear but that only really suceeds in tightening your figure a little. Thickening the fabric for your bodysuit and combining a corset and shapewear can break up the lines of corset but that's really warm.
>>8967577
Not Megumin but crossplaying Darkness. Good luck!

I'd recommend using a more full coverage foundation, or even just more of the foundation you're using might work just to get as flawless of a finish as possible. Just make sure it doesn't look cakey. Also, definitely get some mascara and try fake eyelashes, those can go a really long way with making you look girly and more anime.

I think you'll do great. Good luck!

Maidenform shapewear is pretty good and is designed to look more subtle. I'm thin enough to buy a size down and it helps. But if you want actual hourglass figure, yeah, get a corset or something and hip pads for extra contrast if your crossplay allows.

So I'm a guy living in NYC who wants to get into this. Where do I even begin? I already crossdress but never in public, and I really don't want to go to a con alone by first time doing this.
>>

Just dive in feet first. I'm not sure why there is apprehension just because you are crossplaying. It is fundamentally the same thing as cosplay but just you cosplaying a character which isn't the same sex as you are out of costume.

Perhaps my real question is where to find friends that are cool with crossplaying. I'm completely new to cosplay alone and I feel I may have missed the boat now that I just turned 24.

We are your friends who are cool with crossplaying. Come be cute girls with us.

I just turned 29 and I'm crossplaying Fubuki from One Punch Man this summer. If you really want to crossplay, you should go ahead and do it, or you'll regret not doing it more when you're older.

That's cool, I'll keep that in mind thank you.

I just need to find people to crossplay with in real life at a con or something though.

It might be more helpful for you to look for your con's forums (either your local con, or the one you want to attend). Then look for groups that are looking for members to complete their group. Screen them to make sure they aren't flakers that will drop out before the con, aren't SJW, aren't too much drama queens. Send them a polite message and ask if it's okay to join their group although you'll be crossdressing. If they say "no", shrug it off and move on to the next group. Repeat until you find a group that's okay with that.

You're going to need to find your own friends, though, I wouldn't count on the cosplay group being able to hold your hand, give you asspats and babysit you throughout an entire con, chances are they'll already have things they want to do outside of the group cosplay, and will ditch you to do their own thing.

Alternatively, you can always hang out in touhou fandoms, or whatever groups are centred on shoujo characters but have a strong male following (K-on also comes to mind, but it might not be popular anymore), then bring up the topic of cons and find out who is coming to your con and make your own cosplay group from there.

It is my belief that that group of people willing to be your friend will make themselves known once you cosplay the first time. I just went to my local con in Marisa and a group of other touhou fans came over and hung out with me. Just remember your social niceties and you should have at least a few contacts after that.

I agree with >>8969159
I was pretty apprehensive about it at first, but now im going on all because in three years I have to go for mandatory conscription which will no doubt make it a lot harder for me to pass as a girl compared to right now

I think most people in the cosplay community are pretty cool with crossplay. I think the best way to make friend might just be to go to cons. I've met all of my cosplay friends from cons just by hanging around and taking pictures p much. If you don't have a tumblr/instagram or somewhere where you can post yourself afterwards tagged with the con so people who you met can talk to you make sure you try to talk with people and exchange contact info. Some people will just take your picture and then leave and try to contact you later so if they can't you just need to feel it out p much.

Any FtM crossplayers here had experience with these briefs from Underworks or know someone who has? Usually I use regular womens shapewear but obviously I'm not gonna get the effect I need. http://www.underworks.com/hip-buster-and-butt-trimmer-brief

I've got the microfiber compression shorts which do an OK job but maybe I'll get these in the future...did they only recently start carrying them?
>>
>>8969906
I can't remember when I first saw them but it's been a while since then. unfortunately there're only 5 reviews on the site and there aren't any pictures... You can only rely on words so much

Different anon, but might get a corset if dosh allows me to. What measurements do I need so I can avoid getting something stupid huge or really small?

My m8s gave me a Miku costume for birthday. What do you think?
>>
>>8973299

Take a mirror shot? This doesn't really do much to show what the costume actually looks like (other than that your wig needs to be brushed)

It was a quick try-on haha. I'll take one another time

If you are getting something off the internet they should have a range of waist measurements corresponding to each size category. There should also be a indication of the expected reduction after corsetting.

Apparently getting one made and fitted for you ensures the best fit but is really expensive. Idk I personally have never thrown down the cash for a custom one and stuck with the online general sized ones. It works decently well for me. If you want a pic I can post the effect of corsetting with the current one I have.
