No offense but I thought this was the ita thread based on OP. I don't mind punk j-fash like you can find on the secondhand sites, but punk lolita looks like you just got back from circus school. The looks contrast too much. Some of the other pics are just Gothic. Stick to Gothic or punk, don't try to force a substyle that sucks

This is so cute! Id love to see more creative sweet coords like this!
>>8905836
Coming from someone who deosnt normally dress up as anything, punk lolita looks a lot less ridiculous, mismatched, and in your face annoying compared.to other more popular lolita subtypes like decora. That decora , sweet, and other similar obnoxious styles are much less aesthetic than this stuff.

sweet/punk is an awesome style. i do not have a lot of pics of it though. usually people do regular punk or goth/punk.
i find sweet to often be formulaic despite its huge range of prints, colorways, and themes, all combined with its enherent playfulness/kawaii factor.

take it up with the brands, magazine editors, and Japanese fashionistas. a couple are outdated and have similar silhouettes to what was acceptable at the time, others are just a bit quirky.
it's punk, man.
>>8910347
Being old doesn't make it look better though. It was dumb then and it would look really dumb now next to all the other girls with piles of lace, crochet, and floral arrangements on their heads
>>8910972
Do people not even try to remember what was 'in' several years ago? Most of those images at the time they were created were featured in lolita magazines, blogs and endorsed by lolita models and brands as lolita. It's an old style yeah but just because there are new trends doesn't make the older one invalid.
>>8911106
>it was dumb then
According to who? Apparently not the people who created the substyle and the hundreds of people who wore it, brands that made it, wrote about it and took photos for magazines about it. The only reason punk would look out of place now is because the trend and general lolita aesthetic has shifted in the last decade. Punk was around when the lolita aesthetic wasn't as formulaic and rigid as what it's become and that was it's point.
Saying the current version of lolita is the only acceptable version of lolita is what's dumb. Fashion changes, clearly.
Can't imagine how much shit westerners would get for wearing some if this stuff now. A lot of it looks so cosplay-ish/mismatched.
>>8911452

Punk is great and was my original love. It's really an ancient style and I hope it gets revived, or really, just the love it deserves someday. I think most lolitas get hung up on the fact it's not really elegant and it's super easy to skirt close to looking like a gradeschool mall goth, but it can be done right.

I wonder if any of punk lolitas are actually punks. Like real punk who listen to punk rock or/and believe in anarchy.
>>8918405
Punk Lolita here. I do listen to punk and ska, however I much prefer post punk, deathrock & gothrock. As for anarchy, meh. I don't think it could work in my country. Way too many crazies.
>>8919057
Oh, I really adore goth and postpunk!
>>8919108
Gothrock and Deathrock is under appreciated, imo. I like Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Acid Bats, Sisters of Mercy, Alien Sex Fiend, 69 eyes, 45 grave, ect.
>>8919498
Do you love Play Dead? They are great! I also a big fan of SoM and their clones like The Merry Thought and Dr Arthur Krause. Oh, I really love Siouxsie's voice,
She's unique woman.
>>8919505
Aaah Play Dead, been a while. As for The Merry Thoughts, I prefer them over Dr.AK. I agree that Siouxsie is pretty unique and out there.
>>8919518
I really appreciate dr AK for the song 'Fadime', I think it's cool (or what is nowaday word for cool?) when songs are based on real stories.
Also I found a great russian band, it's called 'никoгo_нeт_дoмa', I beleive it is nikogo_net_doma in latin alphabet. Anyway, you can find them on lastfm. Their music is really great.
>>8919578
>>8905685
the bottom left is so-so, others are trash
So, doesn't punk lolita have rules, like 'you should wear a blouse under jsk'?
I love punk lolita for its old school touch
>>8920189
Not really, punk outside of Lolita is hard to pin down as one set thing, so I find that it tends to be a little more freeform.
I think the most important parts from the main Lolita "rules" are the skirt shape, skirt length (though a few cm shorter isn't always bad if it's not scandalous), and reasonable modesty (I'd usually apply this to visible cleavage rather than bare arms, but I guess it's a matter of preference).
After that, it's about bringing in whatever punk elements you want, and pretty much tinkering around with it until it's identifiable as both punk and lolita. For example, the coord on the right in >>8905685
is way too far punk to the point where as Lolita, it's ita, there are no discernable Lolita traits, but in coords like >>8905594
>>8905630
>>8906137
>>8906144
you can clearly see and separate the Lolita and punk elements in each. Of course they don't have to be exactly 50/50, coords will often lean a little more in either direction, but you'll often be able to clearly recognise them as having bits of both.
Punk Lolita isn't formulaic like standard Lolita, but honestly that's part of the fun, and it gives way to a ton of variety, even if there is a risk of there being plenty dodgy coords in the mix.
>>8920649
this is a good post. i want to add that part of the fun of punk is deconstructing the traditional lolita aesthetic, especially when it comes to color and pattern coordination. contrasting colors rather than complementary colors are welcome in punk, and clashing patterns and layers of different fabric types give the aesthetic a sensory factor that i find difficult to explain.
easymode punk lolita has the traditional lolita silhouette and safer color coordination, with the "British schoolkid punk" look of black, tartan, studs, chains, and maybe a touch of leather. but then you have stuff like all the Nana Kitade coords posted in this thread that demonstrate how you can use regular, non-punk pieces combined and layered in a punk way. (fucking love Nana Kitade's style.)
punk lolita can be hard to get "right" if you don't already coord well in one of the main 3 styles, imo. you need to know the rules and what flatters you before you can blow them apart with a punk coord.

Whatever happened to Nana? I don't see her anymore.
I think the better punk Lolita looks also have an 'eccentric rock star' vibe. Then again, rock stars made punk fashion what it is. The well put together looks, what most strive for in Lolita, seem forced. Whereas the messy clashing looks seem better suited for punk.
Alas, I've nothing to contribute because anons are on it and posted my favs.
Punk lolita seems to be not very popular
More punk

>>8911106
all fashion is dumb if you regard it with that attitude! even if you don't like something personally it's still good form to appreciate predecessors of current styles. punk is a nice break from the rigidness of lolita. a lot of the above examples are very cleverly crafted to balance the chaos and cute, it's not as mishmashed as it might appear at first glance.

I wear punk pretty frequently. It's a lot more toned down and wearable for everyday than most lolita, and I find it to be freer and more creative for events.
However, you have to strike a balance with your outfits. You can't be danger-chan.
>>8911106
>Being old doesn't make it look better though. It was dumb then and it would look really dumb now
The type of lolita fashion that's around nowadays will look tacky and awful in a few years, that's what fashion is like - it always seems terrible in immediate retrospect. It's not until you've lived through a few trends and phases that you're able to look at it subjectively.
NES games looked like primitive shit when the SNES came out, now it's considered an acceptable aesthetic choice to make your videogame look like a retro 8 bit classic. Nothing changed, just perception.

>>8956789

I think we're so trained into the mindset that Lolita coords have to be perfect, neat, colour-balanced, elegant, etc, that we forget what it's like to just wear something fun, or in a way that's not as uniform as expected.
I'm really starting to love non-standard stuff in Lolita. JSKs with no blouse, punk, other non-Lolita or less rigid elements. I think the western standard has really started to stagnate and damage the fashion's existence as a street fashion.
