How do you do your nails /cgl/?
>>
oh that's right! I have nails...

I use nail polish once a month at most and I'm always too lazy to remove it so it cracks and fell eventually...

I keep mine constantly trimmed short because it helps curb my face picking habbit. It embarasses me though so I try to cosplay as characters who have gloves or somehing.
>>
I do acrylic nails because my natural nails are weak as shit and I like being able to use my nails as tools for opening things, etc. I really want to try doing deco nails since my nail tech is amazing at that sort of thing, though I usually just go with a holographic nail polish.

I'm getting acrylics real soon! Does anyone have any tips for what to do before/during it? Also, would it be rude to show a picture of what I want?
>>
>>8902126
What's wrong with short nails? Painted or not mine are always clipped to the end of my nailbed. I think long nails are cute only if their painted, so since I don't really have time for that I just keep them short so they don't look gross.

A big reason I don't paint them anymore is because I like to lift, and somehow between using clips and grabbing onto shit my nail polish seems to get fucked up in a matter of days. Any advice for that?
>>
is boys casually painting their nails cute i love doing it
>>
Mine grew in last 3 months taking vitamins for a health issue. Like they are 3/4" top nail. I don't know how to look after them but would feel bad cutting them off as I like the look of long nails. I oil with coconut oil then layer on nail hardener over 5 days before wiping off and starting again. This week I got fancy, painted and glued some gems on.Tips from nail savvy peeps?
>>
>>8902664
as long as it's subtle and you're not a faggot about it. bf goes and gets pedicures with me occasionally and sometimes i convince him to pick a color instead of a clear coat.
>>
>>8902294
Why would it be rude to show what you want done on your nails? We rather have our clients show us what they want done than telling us since many won't know what you are envisioning. Also if it's your first time getting your nails done with acrylic, it will hurt. Like it's not pain but a weird tight sensation that most people describe it as such. Also be ready to smell those wonderful chemicals, they do cause headaches so just have that heads up.
>>
>>8902667
Always file your nail in one direction if you can. Most people go back and forth but it damages your nails and can make them weaker. So go one direction one side then when you go to even out the next side, do the same thing.
>>
I keep them short because long nails can get in the way of crucial activities like typing and fapping, but they're even and I file them so they're shaped decently. I don't paint them because then I get autistic about chipping and feel the constant need to repaint them so they're perfect again.
>>
i am a raging lesbian so they are short as fuck but neat.
i lowkey like those rly pointy acrylic nails but i'd never be able to have them.

I don't bother because I have freakish club thumbs and don't want to draw attention to them.

I like gradient nails. Pic related is one of my favourites, it's not particularly attention-grabbing but it goes well with pretty much everything in my wardrobe and it's cute.
>>
Does anyone have recommendations for products that... I don't know, promote nail growth? I've bitten and picked at my nails my whole life and now I'm taking the initiative to break the habit because I hate having fucked up nails/cuticles so much.
>>
>>8902971
aw, I just buyed (a cheap copy) 2 weeks ago. Just poped on my suggested items.
I don't paint my nails so often, but gonna try!
>>
>>8902971
I usually just make do with a sponge for my gradient nails, I'd love to give this a try
>>
>>8903040
I don't think anything external can really help with nail growth directly. I used to be a biter too, also used to have dermatophagia. I can't give you any advice on how to stop, because what triggered me to cut the habit was a little weird. But the best way to promote nail growth is to protect them. File them correctly, oil your cuticles, you don't really need anything fancy, sweet almond oil works wonders. I use nail envy to prevent peeling and chipping. The more your nails grow out, the stronger they'll become. Good luck.

I've noticed a lot of nail tutorials that don't use that latex stuff use what looks like a gel liner brush with acetone. Is that what I should use to clean up my nails? I've been using Qtips and it's not working as well as I'd like.

The latex doesn't actually clean up your nails, it just makes clean up easier.

Practice painting your nails more and you'll get to the point where you'll do little or no clean up. I've been painting my nails multiple times a week for about 5 years now and I rarely have to do any kind of clean up.

When I was starting out though, I got a short brush with stiff bristles (lots of nail art brush sets will come with 2 or 3 of these) and used 100% acetone nail polish remove to clean up my cuticles and nail beds. The brush makes your clean up a lot more precise, and 100% acetone is much quicker at taking off polish, although regular nail polish remover will work too. Acetone isn't great for your skin, so use it sparingly, moisturize your hands after.

Hm, i kind of like it but it makes me feel like it would be horrible to touch. one of my nervous habits is running the pads of my fingers/thumbs over my nails, and i like the smooth feel. This makes me think of the weird feeling you get when you file your nails with one of those crystal nail files.

There's like some kind of prevention nail polish that tastes super bitter, you might find that useful to help break the habit. The taste is supposed to snap you out of it when you unconsciously start to bite your nails.

If your nail is brittle or thin, then OPI nail envy helps to make it thicker and stronger. I don't think there's anything that helps to make it grow faster, though.

I see a few gulls also having some skin picking problems. I've been doing it my whole life, and it has really affected my nails. I can't get acrylic nails on my thumbs without them lifting within a week because the surface is so uneven. I also find myself picking at the nails and eventually just ripping them up and damaging my nails even more. Does anyone else with this problem have any tips to stop? I've tried putting bandaids on my fingers but it never seems to last. I'd love to have pretty nails, but it's always such a waste when I end up destroying them.
>>
Seeking help with my nails. I was getting my nails done at a salon, but they kept having the dudes there do my nails and they sucked at it, so I stopped going. I recently started using shellac (UV polish), but it lifts and chips very easily despite going through every step necessary to make it work (pushing cuticles back, filing, dehydrator, base coat, polish, topcoat, not having polish fall over the edge of my nail, etc.). Could it just be because my nails are too fragile from getting my nails done? Or does anyone have UV polishes they recommend?
>>
I always have a simple french manicure! Looks cute with casual and cosplay and keeps me from biting my nails which I have a really bad habit of.
>>
What kind of nail salons do I need to be looking out for if I want those cute decorated nails you see coming from salons in japan?
I mean sure I can get a nice solid layer of whatever in most, but that's also where it ends. If I'd walk in with pic related and said I wanted something similair I would just get confused looks.
>>
Any tips for super fragile nails? I've tried those super strengthening polishes and they did work but my nails just split and the whole top layer broke off...

Is there anything that can be done about really short nails? And by that I mean the nail is close to the end of the finger, so the entire thing is short. I don't even have lunulas, two are measurably wider than they are long and pushing my cuticles back does nothing because they migrate back to the same place overnight.

Does anyone have recommendations for base and top coats for LED lamps? I got Elite99 ones just because they came with the lamp, and they lift quickly/chip/have to be retouched after only a few days.

>>
>>8907234
I've used CND Shellac and OPI Gel. OPI is thicker than Shellac, but otherwise they both seem to last about as long. One of my coworkers is testing out a new type of LED cure top/base that works with regular polish, but I'm not sure what it was called.

Does anyone else find it really hard to find a nail salon that does good nail art? There's a place that's hailed as the best in my city and it gets awards for best nail art, but pic related is the standard if they're doing anything other than straight line effects or pre-designed falsies.
I can't tell if I'm too picky or if the standard in other nail bars is just really, really low.
>>
>>8903040
Biotin is supposed to help. Prenatal vitamins contain biotin and are cheaper and easier to find than biotin supplements...at least that I've found. If your nails are dry maybe drinking more water and using moisturizer will help? I use a cream called Hard as Hoof that I apply directly to my nails, smells pretty great too.

I also used to be a compulsive biter and painting my nails helped me because I felt bad for chipping my manicure (also nail polish flakes in the mouth were somehow gross enough to deter me). Idk how it will be for you - maybe you'll need additional tricks, but either way, good luck and keep at it.

Sorry missed this. I don't have pics because to be honest my spa doesn't really do nail art, so it would literally just be a portfolio of plain colors or french tips. I rarely do my own because even with shellac, since I'm constantly using acetone they just peel back after a few days. I struggled to take a good photo, but this is my first time doing a complete gel set with false tips. I used CND for the base color and Gellish for the glitter gradient. The glitter is a pretty baby pink, but it didn't come up too well in the photo. I need to get much better at filing and shaping, but I'd like to think I did an okay job. Random tip for posing if you can't get someone else to take the pic and/or feel that the flat pose makes your fingers look too stubby: put something in your hand and grip it. Any random pretty knicknack, or even fabric. At my spa we've done nail art pics for ads and some of the best ones were gotten by bunching up someone's satin workshirt into a nice handful size and loosely gripping it, then cropping it down.

My nails always look terrible because I peel off sale signs with my fingers and it misshapes them. I don't know what I can really do about it though unless I use a sticker peeler, but I feel like that would slow me down a lot.

Well, have you ever heard of Pavlov's Dog? Every time I catch myself biting my nails I slap myself in the face, no matter where I am or who I'm with. 10/10 would recommend.
