Fuck you faggots who got a room at the close Marriott properties.

Got one ritz room; unfortunatly not for the whole weekend. Fucking idiots need to work their shit out so they people don't get fucked like this.

I live 10 minutes away from the convention center but decided to check out the hotel prices for the AX block.

Was the Ritz and every other fancy hotel really completely booked 20 minutes after the email went out?
>>
>>8865980
5 minutes in it got sold out. Their site went down amd they didn't post a direct link for a few minutes. Costs people rooms.

>>
>>8865955
This is fucking amateur hour over at Anime Expo like wtf is this shit this year.
>>
I hate commuting to cons, even when they're pretty close to home, but I think that's exactly what I'll be doing for AX this year.

Aside from the rooms booking to hell, it's just not worth how damn expensive they are, and I'm too old for the 10 people in a room shit.
>>
>>8866229

>Not setting aside the funds and having the money to pay for your own room

Granted I always go with my boyfriend so we split it, but yeah. I've never gone to a con and squished into a room with a million people just to save some money. I work and budget accordingly, it's nice having your own space to decompress and relax.
>>
Is lyft/uber scary?
Might be using them since the rooms are done for.
>>
>>8866260
How far are you gonna be ubering from?
>>
>>8866260
No, nothing to be afraid of, but it can get a bit pricey depending on the time.
>>
>>8866260
Nah, its chill. Crashed at a friends place near LACC and just ubered it all last year because fuck parking. They might have promos during the summer too, it was like $5 anywhere around dtla area for $5, so it was nice. Usually the drivers sorta give you a look if you go in with your cosplay, but once you explain, they're fine with it.

Also an alternative is the metro that stops right there, I've taken it to AX before. But if you're already scared of uber/lyft probably not the best choice... lol. Just dress down your cosplay and put it on once you get to the con center. Police frequently are at the Pico station during AX (morning and afternoon, not at night) though checking people's TAP cards so be careful with that unless you wanna be fined.

>Notice at noon today that I got a response from them, saying that the hotel block would open at 9 AM PST
>Try to book a room
>All hotels available through the site are out of rooms

I've been planning this vacation since the end of last summer. Am I going to have to stay at a hotel not affiliated with the con and use a taxi every single day or something? What do I do? I didn't think that all the hotels would be taken within just a few hours.
>>
>>8866402
Eithee you get a room elsewhere or you become someone else's roommate. Take your pick. Behold, the power of 90000 attendees. Shit is getting more like comic con every year
>>

I'm looking for just 1 person to share a hotel room with. Staying 06/30 - 07/05 at the Courtyard Marriott. It's $309 per person. We're only going to room up to 4 people because fuck that room stuffing shit.
>>

I probably should have said looking for 1 more person. Whatever

As much as I appreciate it, I'm going with my girlfriend, and we want the room to only contain the two of us anyway due to the awful 'cramming seven people in a room' bullshit we went through last year when we went to a con with people we now no longer consider to be friends. Also because we plan on fucking.

I'm really angry. It says on the site that they're planning on expanding the hotel block, but I doubt I'll be able to compete with the jerks who will snatch up any additional rooms within hundredths of a second. I feel like the only way we'll actually get to go to this thing without spending our nights on a bench is to look into what hotels within a 30 mile radius still have any rooms left. And pay horrifying cab fare every single day.
>>
augh we wanted the courtyard Marriott damn site, at least we landed the biltmore but not my ideal stay
>>
>Ritz & Marriott booked
>Waitlisted for Sheraton

I'm tempted to book a normal reservation and then trick the front desk into getting me the same rates for the group block, but lots of people probably do that shit to them already.
>>
>that feel when you just move less than a mile away from con

What does it feel like to live in Skid Row?
>>
>>8866604
Not that anon but I live near by Skid Row and shit gets scary at night and it smells a bit when it rains. Other than that, it's okay. You get used to it after some years.
>>
>>8866594

>>
>>8866594

>>

It's not too bad. I actually live a few blocks from it-- no tents or anything by my house. I had to walk to work for an early morning shift where I used to live in a worse area. I was pleasantly surprised, I never felt scared at night, but the other anon might live closer.

It does smell like dog piss, though.

How were the parties last year when you had to deal with wristbands to get into elevators?
>>
>>8866654
The wristbands were placebo. I didn't wear mine the entire con.
>>
>>8866654
Wristband had no effect. Parties were really lame though. Hopefully this year will be better.
>>
>>8866260
I used Uber going from the JW to LT on Preview Night. Me and a few others even got a comfy Escalade heading back to the hotel. The drivers that lurk downtown LA know that this is the time to make some good money, so they'll be really nice and ask why are you in costume?
>>
>tfw never been to this con before

H-how is it? I'm a total dyke that will be blushing at cute girls, wanting to talk to them, and then not saying anything due to fear of being rude or creepy.
>>
>>8866718
You really should just talk to them. There's so many people at this con. It's really easy to get a convo started with a stranger.
You never know you might actually get lucky and find a waifu.
>>
>>8866718
Since you're female they won't automatically get freaked out. Are you a man dyke or a cute one? If you're cute they won't mind at all.

Have you been to any convention before?

I'm being waitlisted at the Mayfair Hotel. Anyone stayed there? No way is that place less than a mile from the Convention Center. There has to be some shuttle service r-right?
>>
>>8866722
You give me hope, anon.

>>8866723
I'm unsure of what kind of dyke I am. I have a masculine face, an undercut, big boobs and a generally feminine figure, short, and I'm not fat.

I have been to two conventions before, one eons ago with my family (my first and only anime con) and then, last summer, I went to AC, p-pls no bully.
>>
>>8865902
No fuck you nigger. I'm sure that's that for hotel rooms for the AX block. Year after year, you stupid ass weebs fucking trash every hotel during AX and I'm sure there are many rooms to go around at each hotel but they refuse to surrender it to the AX block for fear that some stupid AX attendee is going to fuck something up.

Live and learn faggots, all it takes is one idiot to ruin it for the rest of the bunch. I didn't get a room this year so maybe I'll go use my funds on an actual vacation for once during that time.
>>
>>8866742
Have fun with that. Yes, there's a shuttle, but when I stayed there, not in the con block, the room was tiny, the bathroom door didn't close unless you smushed against the toilet, there was a dirty used washcloth just hanging in the closet and large number of Doritos's behind the TV. Oh, and iron burns on the carpet. There is a Seven-11 right next door, although my group almost witnessed a beating between a patron and clerk.

So I just made reservations at the Best Western Plus Dragon Gate Inn. Since I'm a AAA member, it got knocked down to $180 a night, it has free breakfast, and is only 8 minutes away from the convention center by car. My girlfriend says Best Westerns are pretty good, but does anyone have experience with this one in particular? Is this a suitable hotel for the con, since all the ones linked by shuttle are taken?

8 mins by car is one thing. parking is another. there are a lot of lots 10-20 mins walk from the center for $10-15 a day if you prepay online. if you go early enough there's the connected parking for $20

This will be my first AX.

How big is the yuri section? Will there be people to whom I can talk to about how amazing and happy pic related is?

Also, there aren't any girls-only yuri areas, are there? I like the idea of it, but I want to be able to talk to people about yuri, and I'm a dude.
>>
>>8866912
I usually just bring my car to the con on the first day since I hoard everything I want to buy on that day. Then just park it for the rest of the weekend and walk to the con or take the shuttle depending if I want to grab some food.

I did once. My ex-GF's mom is a frequent biz traveler, and had a ton of Marriott points. We missed getting a JW room one year and she was able to get us a Ritz room on points.

It's nice, but really not all that different from the JW. The biggest difference is how quiet it is, the fact that there's a Nespresso machine in the room (which is fucking awesome and I almost immediately bought myself one after the con), and the Ritz pool is an awesome photo location.

Calling the booking company seems to work pretty well and seems to be better than just booking through the site. Placed a call ~9:10, got through at ~9:20 with everything full, asked nicely if the JW or Residence was available, was told that it wasn't and she could place me on the waitlist #18 while she signed me up for the Biltmore.

I didn't know there was a waitlist, since it wasn't even listed on the website (doubles @ JW were showing as Not Available and didn't show as waitlisted) . Received an automated email 12 minutes later confirming that I'd gotten through the WL and that my Biltmore was automatically changed to JW, and the lady I spoke to on the phone who was apparently the VP of Par Avion even sent me a manual confirmation later and asked me if I needed anything else. 10/10 impressively good customer service.

I asked her a few questions and I was told that apparently how the system worked was that rooms become available on semi-rolling schedule, and new rooms become available even one by one sometimes. Some rooms will become available randomly once the waitlists are saturated from opening new blocks, but it doesn't look like the WLs are that populated at the moment since the only real way to get on them is to call or get on WLs for individual days. However, from what she said, it appears that cancellations don't really go to WLs, but rather shows up straight on the website. She said that if I wanted to change anything to just be on the lookout and check the web page every so often, since things might open up if the WLs get filled or if people cancel. I dunno how accurate that is though since it seems unfair to WL'd people.

But yea, calling seems to work better, and from the way she was talking it seemed like she was expecting way more blocks to open soon.

Also what do you think will happen with the wristbands? Think they'll give up after the first day like last year?
>>
>>8867496
seems like a weird way to run a waitlist. you could get on the waitlist via the AX hotel finder though. whenever you do a search it'll show what days are openly available and what days are waitlist only. some of the hotels are completely booked for the moment and show as sold out.

they'll probably relent on the wristbands because there's nothing like a flood of people trying to get up an elevator at the same time to get you to say fuck it.
>>
>>8867496
Calling was pretty much how I got myself to the waitlist for Sheraton, although I'll still probably call again tomorrow since I've been really accustomed to staying in the Marriott whenever I go to AX.

It's just something about seeing LA downtown during night time, m8, feels intoxicating.

>Bought a premiere badge early for this reason

Ok well I doged a bullet.
That said I was hoping to get a queens. King sized beds are overkill and sleeping alone outside of my room gives me anxiety.

I'm sure it's nothing some 420 can't fix, still looking forward to this being my first out of state con.
>>
>>8868799
>They paid $420 just to get a hotel room early

The value and perks of getting a Premiere Pass has gone down the shitter every year. The only other advantage you get with that shiny piece of plastic is that you get to go into the Dealer's Hall an hour early on Day 1. Nothing else after that.

Sometimes I'm glad that I don't go to cons anymore and don't deal with this kind of madness. But then I remember how fun they are and feel sad.

At this point, the fact I want to go to a con after I got totally fucked over last summer, is a miracle enough.

Awww shit, here we go. For reference, I'm well aware that I fucked up, and if it wasn't for my own insecurities on being "the good friend," this would have never happened. In some ways, though, the fact that it did happen helped me figure out the shit people in my life and grow up emotionally, so. Take that with what you will.

>be months and months and months before last summer
>be in a furry-esque internet community
>I've been in it for almost eight years at this point
>turn 18
>wanted to go to a furcon with these people I've known online forever

That's the background. Here's some more details.

>have very close friend I've had from this community
>in retrospect, she's totally fucked up in the head and is an extremely manipulative person with a victim complex
>too blinded by my friendship that started when I was 12 to realize this
>also in that weird, are we dating or are we friends vortex that toxic people emit like black holes
>we've wanted to go to Anthrocon and finally meet for almost a decade

Already, this wasn't going to turn out well no matter what happened. Here's the final wrench that made this the clusterfuck of a lifetime, however.

>semi-recently got a boyfriend who's local
>he's not the smartest of men, trusting to a fault, socially retarded
>he's never ever dealt with dramatic or crazy sensitive tumblr-tier people before
>he genuinely wants to meet this friend as we all talk to one another online
>he wants to go to the con with me

Some of you probably already see where this is going. Will continue in next post.
>>
>>8868208
It's far, but not really. From my group of friends, I'm probably the only person who likes staying in Westin mainly because

>Food court right across the place sells Rice meals
>It's close to Denny's, which is great when you get the munchies up late and everything else is closed.
>Most of the midnight meet ups of AX, like the Persona group's Midnight Hour and the Karaoke contest continue on Westin

But then again, I think I'm a pleb, most of my friends don't like those stuff.

>needless to say, they already have a strained relationship
>this strain is one-sided
>my bf just wants to be friends
>my old friend hates him for slowly taking me away from her
>I just assume that my bf is always in the wrong for not being sensitive enough for her needs
>my bf trusts me and always believes I'm right because he assumes he's an idiot

So this is the setup, the dynamics in play before the story even begins to come into motion.

>get contacted by mutual friend of me and old friend
>she has a room in a nearby hotel for AC summer of 2015
>she needs three more spots to distribute the price evenly
>with me, my bf, and my friend, the room total is 7 or 8 people
>we all agree to go

Fast forward several months later.

>my old friend is broke as shit
>she can't go to the con with us
>my bf doesn't want to go if he can't meet this old friend
>I have to contact mutual friend to say none of us will be going
>she's understandably pissed
>wants me and my bf to pay for the cancellation fee, since they won't be able to afford the room
>fault is very subtly put on me and my bf for ruining everything
>the fee is more than what we'd even be paying for the room plus my old friend
>propose the idea that we play for my old friend's fee so we all can go
>mutual friend agrees if old friend doesn't feel pressured to do it

This is the part of the story where I want to hit old me in the face, say, pay the cancellation fee you fucknugget, and move on. But I felt bad, and I wanted to meet this old friend, and me and the bf had cash to burn.

>explain to my old friend the situation we were in
>she agrees, although very hesitantly
>we pay for us and her, the con plans are back on, and I'm thanked for saving the day by everyone

>con comes around
>we get there after a shitton of driving
>everyone is exhausted and a little cranky, but I'm excited
>everyone is talking but old friend is very quiet to me
>we all stand in line for hours to get registered
>con shit happens that I can't remember

Here comes the problems.

>first, everyone in the room won't talk to my boyfriend
>no one engages him or acknowledges him unless he speaks to them
>he's socially awkward, so he doesn't say much
>this lack of interaction will be important later on

>second, they are all huge potheads
>like, want to always be high and always smoke in the room if they're awake
>we were NOT informed of this whatsoever
>I'm straight edge as fuck
>pot gives me a serious headache
>my bf would only smoke with people who knew and trusted
>this means that we often aren't interacting with the group because their bonding happens when high

>third, due to having a shitton of pot in the room, they refuse service
>that means that no one is taking care of the room when we're out
>everything was disgustingly messy
>me and bf were uncomfortable but felt it was not our place to speak up

So, while we did all interact at certain parts of the day, the con often had me and my bf leaving the room frequently, while my old friend didn't want to "third wheel" with us so she didn't come with us often, we were often cut off from the group and solo'd it.

I could go on about each day, of all the weird drama from each day, but essentially, we were isolated and had no way to fix it, and my old friend felt like we didn't care about her, even though we did try at every occasion to hang, and she often refused.

This honestly wasn't too dramatic, though. So things were uncomfortable. So my old friend seemed distant. We rolled with it. We all seemed to have a fair amount of fun. We went back home. All was well, right? R-right?

>mutual friend messages me out of the blue a week later
>says she needs to talk to me
>she's pissed that I pressured friend into going

Naturally, I'm confused.

>says that she talked to said friend when they were wasted
>friend confessed that she didn't want to go at all
>also confessed that both me and my bf didn't seem to like her

I, of course, apologize to both mutual friend and old friend and begin to feel like super mega shit. My old friend assures me that she didn't mean any of what she said, but she appreciates the apology.

>old friend stops talking to my bf
>I talk to my old friend about it
>old friend feels that my bf hated her and didn't want to be with her as a friend
>she's especially upset that he thought she was ugly
>I instantly take her side and tell my bf to apologize
>framed it in a, you were obviously misogynistic against her due to her weight, issue for no fucking reason other than that's what she told me she thought it was and I foolishly believed her

This is where his social retardation only makes this matter worse. He sends an 8-paragraph apology saying how, essentially, he's sorry that he views women as objects still, and thought she wasn't pretty enough, and says how he fucked up and doesn't deserve to be forgiven. Needless to say, this makes the shit on the fan fly faster.

>get contacted by mutual friend after he sends this
>mutual friend tells me how he's a total douchebag and wasn't nice to anyone in the room
>mutual friend gives me a, it's him or us, ultimatum
>old friend says that she won't do that to me but she can't be friends with him and blocked him

I felt horrible. I was going to lose all of my friends, friends I thought that became closer friends, and my oldest friend from childhood, if I stayed with someone who I trusted and loved. I was emotionally destroyed. I had no idea what to do, so I did the only thing I could do. The last resort. I went to talk to my parents about it.

>talk to my parents about it
>they laugh and tell it like it is
>tell me all of these friends are whiny sensitive immature potheads
>note that my parents are also extreme potheads, so this is coming from potheads about potheads
>say that I should cut them out and tell them to fuck off
>I do
>lose eight years of friendship and a community that I grew up with
>I've only just now been able to even think about it without missing said friends

In summary, my first true con experience had me pay for someone entirely, lose almost all of my friends, and made me realize I've been used by manipulative scumfucks my entire life and that I'll be forever emotionally and socially damaged because of it.

Still looking forward to AX 2016 with the bf, though. Shit's gonna be fun.

We just accepted that we both got horribly played by these people, and moved on. He knows that I was being manipulated, and doesn't hold it against me. As he just said recently, I'm the best thing to ever happen to him, so there's no bad blood between us.

All in all, we ended up getting out of their drama for good, and it has been smooth sailing ever since. What a weird positive turnout from the initial shitfest.

Seeing someone say that my girlfriend doesn't deserve me is the most bizarre thing. I was single my whole life until I met her at 23; I'm short and shy and boring-looking. If I'm too good for my girlfriend, I have absolutely no idea who's "good enough" for me that would actually take interest in me.

Besides, my girlfriend has brought me incredibly joy and happiness. She makes me feel valued and appreciated and loved. Even if I could understand the concept of being "too good" for anyone, I can't begin to imagine how I could be "too good" for someone as amazing as she is.

If AX is planning to stay in downtown LA for all eternity, I am considering looking to invest in a timeshare in area.
>>
Anyone interested in renting an apartment across the street from the Soutb Hall for the week of AX? Minimum stay is 7 days, checking in on the 28th and checking out on the 5th of July. 8 people max for $2000 which is due on May 29. So that is $250 per person.
>>
>>8873695
Fuck nevermind it's $4,000 total with half upfront by May 29 and the other half by check in day.

Still looking for 1 more roommate at the Courtyard Marriott. The cost is $309 per person for 5 nights, check-in 06/30 and check-out 7/05 . We're only going to room up to 4 people because fuck that room stuffing shit. You'll be rooming with 3 females, so we prefer another female roommate.

sorry about those dropping prices. the golden age of rideshare is over. couple of years ago and you were making mad bucks because rates were high and less drivers out there. now there's so many people driving because they all heard that all these other guys were just driving around and getting paid. plus uber/lyft are fighting each other for fares.
