>>
>>8740525
it's weird because it seems less costumey to me than current lolita trends. i think goth, punk, and even scene elements feel more like alternative fashion than lolita alone does. perhaps i am betraying my age: alternative scenes and subcultures are not as dark as they used to be.

A decade or so from now the new generation of alternative fashion kids will probably say the same thing about what they'd be wearing and lolita trends right now.

That being said, I missed the days when it was more acceptable to wear bits and pieces of bondage gear with lolita.

>>
>>8740535
I think it has to do with the fact that goth, emo, punk etc. has always been more of a subculture and lifestyle than lolita; there's a very specific set of values, musical tastes, interests, etc. attached to all of them in a way that lolita lacks. Clothes were always kinda second, and it's more about a general style and feel than specific coords and outfits. There's no wigs, either, which I think is rather symptomatic - if you're a goth, that's your standard mode. You're always a goth. Compare with the past five-six years of wigstandard in lolita.
There's also the fact that darker styles like goth and punk have been around for way longer, putting groundwork for other dark styles. I can't think of anything filling the kinda nische of lolita before lolita.

Bodyline did one up til recently, still pops up unused second-hand occasionally. That's the one whatsernane that posts all the old school to CoF uses (pic related). In Japan, Maple Wigs do one that's not too expensive (I bought one but haven't tried it yet) and Prisila do one that's stupidly expensive. I think GLW still do one (the one in that pic is GLW)which is a pain when you're boycotting them.

It's supposed to be tacky. Varying degrees of it sure but still tacky and sometimes gross. And while the makeup does look sloppy a lot of that is due to the HD camera and harsh lighting. The Oni colors are very cute btw.

I can't think of a gyaru style that isn't at least a little tacky? Maybe rokku. But big hair, long nails, crazy OTT make-up, and the tan are all staples of gyaru, at least in my opinion, and in the west, all those things are considered tacky. But that's kind of why people love it? What gyaru styles are you thinking of that aren't tacky? Himekaji? Most actual gyaru I know are like "lol yeah it's tacky as hell, I love it"

If you ever go to Japan, play a game called Dance Evo. Essentially the same thing and there are crossovers with para para paradise.

>>8741359
Para Para came before the popularity of caramelldansen. It was a selection of songs (usually if not always eurobeat) that had a specific hand dance. Check out the routines for Yesterday, Night of Fire, Ultra-High-Heels and Sexy Sexy Sexy. I miss it so much.
>>
>>8741492
This shit was my jam in the early 2000's. I miss the para para scene so much.
>>
>>8741359
ParaPara is a dance style where it's very simple side-to-side steps and all the complicated routines are done with your hands. There was also different styles like TechPara (techno parapara) that was more popular with guys.

There were a set of arcade games for them as well and some ganguro/gyaru groups across Japan have an annual parapara dance competition.

I'm in a jazz band and I don't listen to jazz outside of it.

Hell, I hate it. I hate playing it. I hate the way we sound. The piano notes are the worst. Just chords, chords, bounce bounce bounce rhythm section shit

Then you get solos from hell
And the audience doesn't even realize it's a solo because you're always playing anyway

I'm sure some people can enjoy it, but for me, jazz is pain.

not this specific look, that phased out when scene died. the hybrid scene-emo-vkei look peaked around 2005-2007 or so, in the LJ/DeviantArt age. it was also a major scene in the West back then, arguably more intense than lolita.

I am desperately looking for the pic that got me in j fash back then.
It's an asian girl at a cafe(?) table or something, everything is filtered pale, she's wearing a shoulder lenght curly blonde wig, and a pink plaid "punk" dress and i think she has a headdress on. Looks like some cosplay or some cheap attempt at lolita i don't know. I remember it being kinda blurry too possibly from the massive editing. This pic was my portal to j fash and other stuff, i just wanna find it, print it and keep it somehwere like a magic nostalgia charm idk. It sounds stupid as fuck i know.

i posted many, if not most, of the images in that thread. this is why i suspect we're focusing on different aspects of the style. the scene trend had a defined look to it, adopted by some Western fans of visual kei. if you can't see it without me diagramming the differences i don't really know what to say.

That was Alba Rosa brand ganguro, it died together with the brand. Actually, the reason for them closing was yamamba (mostly guys tho) hanging out in their stores all the time without buying anything, that scared customers away and ruined the brand's image.

also anon, the term scene as in reference to posers isn't used like that anymore, it's been used for years to describe what can only be called colorful emo.
>>
>>8743324
i think you are reacting without thinking.

you replied to posts about the dead scene/emo trend in vkei, so it's rather natural to assume that, when you say "that look still exists," you're responding to the discussion about that trend.

let's track the conversation.

>>8740491
>>emo/scene visual kei hair
^introduces the topic of a specific look from a specific time-based trend. you, or someone whose reponses you are piggybacking on, quoted this and the next image in the "emo/scene visual kei hair" sequence (>>8740499) to say the style still exists. so if that's not what you meant, be more careful about which posts you include in your response.
>>
>>8740491
I remember they where all over MySpace then! I was "friends" with sooo many of them. It was definitely more popular and wide spread than lolita at the time. Only BABY and meta shipped overseas back then, there where no off brand lolita shops everything was so much more inaccessible. They made up the majority of the jfashion crowd.

You think we could get away with bringing it back by describing it as "panda makeup"? and dressing up and posting pics and having gal meetups in the US? Maybe lolita comms could have gal days? They wouldn't necessarily need to go out for lunch, maybe stay inside and parapara.

I'm no lolita but I would love to dress in gyaru with a bunch of other girls and pig out at home/goof off.

Well who the fuck cares, SJWs have no power over people who ignore them. They only affect the cosplay/jfash community when cosplayers decide to "publicly apologize" for "blackfacing."

Seriously guys, they have to go out into the big bad world eventually. Do what you want. Make things into the "norm" again or else these sensitive twats will start getting GI Joes banned.

>MySpace scene weebs
>Tokyo decadence

Aaaah so much nostalgia! I miss the days when lolita was part of the "alternative" crowd. With most Lolita's coming over from either goth or scene. Gothic was more popular at the time too and I remember lolitas hanging out at goth clubs and everyone's fucking dream was to attend Tokyo decadence and party with the alt Japanese crowd.

Now it seems the fashion is mostly made up of cosplayers, the fashion itself reflects that and is getting more and more Costume-ish. the emphasis on it being an actual working fashion is gone now too. We used to put so much emphasis on building a working wardrobe which meant casual wear to ott outfits and everything in between for everyday wear. But now people just put together specific outfits for meet-ups or cons but have no actual working wardrobe just specific coords. idk if I'm making any sense I've had some wine. But I miss Lolita's being part of the alt crowd but now its more like a nerd costume and I've never been much of a nerd so I miss that...I mean, Lolita's have always been a bit weeby don't get me wrong. But now it seems weebness, general "fandom" stuff and lolita REALLY go hand in hand now days and nobody really aspires to wear it daily like we used to, let alone fraternize with other alternative people.

Omg i will never mot love Kana. That Hebi Ichigo song/music video was my shit back in highschool. Had it playing on my gaia AND myspace profiles!
>>
>>8743464
I get what they mean about lolita felt more like it belonged to the goth scene in the early stages, wheras now it belongs more to the weeb/cosplay/con world.
I imagine that it would change a bit depending on the person though.

>>8743451
>everyone's fucking dream was to attend Tokyo decadence and party with the alt Japanese crowd.
So depressing when, as an adult, I finally got to go there and it was all topless plain chubby white guys wearing jeans without any styling and a few gogo dancers. Hopefully just a quiet night.
>>
>>8741934
No, Hello Batty is tacky in general. I'm sure a better lolita could do it justice and people won't care
>>
>>8743451
>We used to put so much emphasis on building a working wardrobe which meant casual wear to ott outfits and everything in between for everyday wear. But now people just put together specific outfits for meet-ups or cons but have no actual working wardrobe just specific coords.
this. i was interested in lolita when it was more alt, but when i returned years later and could afford it, the emphasis had changed. i like the newer styles but the approach people have is fake as fuck.

Mini top hats are definately the worst thing to ever have plagued the fashion.
>>
>>8744398
the low quality ones whose bottoms stick out (as opposed to resting on the head) bother me, but i think after years of seeing lolitas put everything but a kitchen sink on their heads, a well-executed minihat is no worse than a cake headdress.
>>
>>8744398
And let's not forget beaded crowns. So many fucking shitty tutorials and post about beaded crowns on egl. They where awful.
>>
>>8744398
I agree for the most part. I have a really nice one from a bridal boutique which is well made, and had a net section, as well as being a good size for a mini-hat fascinator. But it works with Victoriana fashion/ aristocrat best. Not lolita/ouji. So many of the just look so cheap and tacky, even fairly expensive ones.
>>
>>8744398
>>8744407
Eh, mini top hats have been a thing again for few years already.
>>
>>8744234
There's a disconnect here. A lot of doll collectors don't even like anime/Japan. Some of us migrated over from collecting other dolls or are seamstresses who like sewing for them. It's also not super common to carry them around. I'm not denying their are sweaty hamplanets who love their yaoiboiz, but they're a bad representation of your average collector as itas are for lolitas.
>>
>>8744046
It's true. I was posting my daily coords and more experimental coords. I got ripped to shreds and stopped posting for a long time. I'm thinking I should just stop giving any fucks and start posting all of them again.
