Just listening to some of Masashi's previous bands, it seems like he likes to explore different styles. With him being in Versailles and then Jupiter, I don't think he's been able to get creative since most of the music is written by Hizaki. I get there's a limit between changing styles and compromising the sound of the band overall but it seems like maybe he really does want change.

I wonder whether there's been any sort of rift between Masashi and Yuki, and Hizaki and Teru? If you look at Hizaki's band history, they don't seem to last long aside for Versailles.
Interestingly enough however, on Kamijo's video that he posted today with regard to Paris and Brazil, he announced himself as 'Kamijo of Versailles'.

Getting a sore throat from air travel had more to do with being on a plane for a couple of hours with recycled air, not much can really stop that. This strained throat has more to do with them overexerting themselves, whether it be over performing or improper singing or, most likely, a mix of the two.

I do think that Kamijo can get better though. I mean look at Kyo he really fucked up his voice from all the bellowing, screeching, and other harsh stuff he does and on top of that I don't think he was really taking care of his voice at the time. But now he is singing a lot better and actually being able to maintain a steady voice throughout concerts. I highly doubt Kamijo fucked his voice up as bad a Kyo so I have hope.

I can say that this is also true, there are too many screencaps and info out there to deny it. Iori is the main cause the band broke up. The thing why they are so pissed is that he cheated on his wife with a band fan who would go to lives about it. This fan isn't exactly very smart and wasn't careful with any of the info. They want him to apologize. The japanese fans were rude to him in lives and were even throwing stuff at him. There was no chance, in Japan if you do one bad thing it will stick with you forever. The band chose to disband instead of replacing Iori, they felt it wouldn't be right. He even said to the girl in screencaps " we cannot be seen together because I will get fired". The members didn't know, also he was so stupid. He should have thought things through carefully or at least hide it better.

Are there any VK (or even other type) bands who have a sound like pre-Beast of Blood Malice Mizer? I especially liked the album Merveilles, but I've never been able to find anything else with a similar vibe. I dipped into VK a few years ago but found the sounds to be very different to that, so I'm not sure where to go.

Honestly I was (and sort of still am) a 100% fanboy for them from the beginning till and including ouroboros. Even downloaded the Gauze and Macabre fan video stuff from p2p back in the day and got into their personalities and all that. Arche was amazing, it is one of my favorites by them. And even though it gets hate I did like Dum Spiro Spero, it was a bit tiresome and repetitive but it had some good songs. I think they have really evolved as a band, and it is definitely for the better.

From what my friend was telling me the Versailles set list was pretty short. They played songs like The Revenant Choir, Aristocrats Symphony, Ascendead Master, and God Palace. But they switched out the members. Mostly Masashi and Yuki were switched in and out.
