I like the broken doll theme the most besides the medical one but it seems like the halloween-y is still the most common as it is easier to find due to Listen Flavor making tons of it.

In general, it could be said that gurokawa is one big fashion covering everything ~somewhat~ casual that takes cute things and makes them morbid. I think it is similar like how lolita is one big fashion split into various themes, in case of gurokawa it would be spooky (halloween-like), doll, medical and dead (zombies, body parts, etc).
To be honest, I really hate the english term as "creepy cute" sounds like some 12yo would invent, the japanese guro part makes it sound more mature.

I think the most popular example would be Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan. The problem is that they usually don't get listed under the horror genre due to the comedy factor.
