Try to be thoughtful about the lines -- they're either vents of some kind, or paneling. Shade accordingly. Some people think the panels/vents lay over the face, others think it's exposed metal under the face. It doesn't matter either way, just so long as your shading is consistent.
Don't make your lines too bold, they're meant to represent changes of planes on the face, they're not facepaint he wears. My Mettaton makeup still has tons of room for improvement, but just being aware of these things makes it way way better than these atrocities.
