Curious about the brand in the opening photo, so can we have a lolita item ID / stupid question thread?
>>
You could just ask this in the general.
Or google image search.

http://www.lolibrary.org/apparel/pusse-du-printemps-op
>>
... why not just have a dumb questions general?
>>
>>8686552
I feel exceedingly stupid right now.
>>
What is the standard time you should wait for a seller to send you the item that you bought? Like if you already bought the damn dress, and you're just waiting for them to ship it. How long should I wait before I start bombarding the seller with messages? Cause it's been a week, and she still hasn't even sent my shit.
>>
>>8689899
You can definitely start messaging after a week. When was the last time she answered you? If there is still no reply after two weeks file the PayPal claim.
>>
>>8689909
Thanks Anon! You're the best!
>>
Stupid-ish question here.
What are some good places to buy lolita apart frdom closetchild, my-lolita-dress and clobbaonline?
I want to buy from taobao but sometimes its nice to have a online store that is easyer the navigate.
>>
Do I wear a petti with a salopette?
>>
>>8690509
Depends on how long it is.
>>
>>8690485
I know AP, Baby/AatP, and Innocent World have US/english websites and you can buy from Infanta through aliexpress. There are also a couple taobao shopping services that have a sort of cart system (taobaoring comes to mind but https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AlgllpMiw3VNdGpfWFlYazhjblh5emRjZF9qMkJISWc is a spreadsheet that lists a couple others). That taobao thread always has resources listed at the top if you want to look into it more.

Some salopettes have space for a petti (ex. AP Dream Fantasy) some not (ex. AP Dreamy Dollhouse).
Pic related. This is the Dream Fantasy salo with a petti inside. I have it too in black and i can wear it only with a shorter petti, also choose one that is A-line and not so poofy, it looks better.

Extremely silly question. Measurements as per the site state 16.3 inch bust and 35 inch waist. I have a 39 inch bust and 32 waist. I'd like to get this dress but I'm not sure if I'd get boobloaf since I've never worn a salopette/overall dress. Would you guys think it would look flattering or fit okay?
>>
>>8690718
Looks like maybe if you push your boobs up enough they'll fit in that bust area.
>>
>>8690718
Also dumb question: what's the name of this specific piece? Definitely looks like AP to me, but I've never seen it.
>>

Is it meant to be underbust?

What is the best way to search for 'sack dresses' (like the cosmic OP)? Are they called a-line, baby doll, or something else? Talking specifically about the ones with a free bust, not the ones with a tight bust with the rest of the dress being loose.
>>
>>8691178
Trapeze dress (like a more voluminous shift dress)
Very 60s style.
Ones with the tight busts are empire waists, or baby dolls sometimes.
>>
>>8691183
Searching for that comes up with normalfag stuff though. Thank you so much for the proper term, however do you have any advice to find these when searching online?
>>
>>8691189
Uh, for lolita? It's just free waist. There's no lolita term I don't think, just like of you google a line dress you'll get normalfag ones as well.
Maybe someone will say if there's a specific tag on lolibrary, I can't load it right now.
>>
>>8691191
That's what I was afraid of. Thanks so much though!

Are open toed shoes acceptable in lolita? Does this question have a clear cut answer or is it one of those everyone has an opinion and co-ords to back it up things?
>>
>>8692375
I don't think it looks good since lolita requires to wear socks and open shoes look terrible with socks. But I've seen them in a few coords so maybe some are ok with it.
>>
>>8692117
Le petit chaperon rouge by Alice and the Pirates.
>>
>>8692375
They only really look good with those transparent ankle socks.
>>
Can someone confirm the max stretch of IW high waist Crest Gobelin jsk? I know I'm a fatty but I want that print so badly
>>
>>8692375

They're just hard to balance well. And by hard to balance, I mean, really really difficult to get everything just right.

Putting side the outfits where it just looks confusing because the wearer paired warm-weather sandals with chilly-weather long-sleeved coords, the average lolita outfit has covered shoulders, a poofy skirt, a lot of frills and a lot of details. Then when you get to the legs and they're bare, it looks a bit unbalanced, whereas most socks have patterns on them that help balance out a frilly, fancy top portion.

So you'd think, it's ok, just pick a simpler dress with less details so that it's ok for the legs to be bare, right, but head too far in that direction and your outfit suddenly becomes too plain and too simple to be lolita, it starts looking like otome or even retro or hillbilly, instead of lolita.
Tough to find that sweet spot where you don't look overdressed for your bare legs, while still being fancy enough to be lolita.

If I wore a black petti with this or any white dress/skirt would you be able to see it?
>>
>>8693005
Depends on how thick the fabric is and if it's lined.
>>
>>8690718
probably don't do it, the bust will be weird and the hips could be a problem
>>
>>8692375

They're acceptable in casual or simple coords for summer. I'd nix any socks altogether and just pair it with a dress that fits the season.
>>
>>8690655

does anyone know where I can get a straw hat base similar to pic related?
obviously the rim doesn't have to be super floppy like in the pic, I would actually prefer a stiff rim.
>>
>>8693569
It looks quite shallow, so I would suggest looking for vintage 30's hats.
>>
>>8690655
>>8690597
Any recommendations for short very relaxed A-line petticoats that are good for such? I'd rather get one just in case it can.
>>
>>8693569
Historical hat reproduction places are your best bet, depending on your budget. They're often in the $200+ range, but Austen Nation has some more reasonable ones: http://www.austentation.com/boutique/hats.html

Also Miller's Millinery: http://www.bonnets.com/hats.html

Much less rules for it, but similarly to lolita the best outfits tend to be ones that have an overall color scheme or a theme. Also I would say make sure you really have a ton of stuff, so you dont look too bare.
>>

I'll look through the inventory on sites like my lolita dress, then find the same items on the brand shops on taobao sometimes.

In Japan girls wear them with socks. In the west, socks with sandals is ridiculed.

Basically, because of that, it's waaay harder to wear them in the west.
>>
>>8694635
Pick a base color + 2 or 3 accent colors if you are new and work from there. Don't try to do a whole rainbow. You should have enough on that you make a little noise when you walk.

Look for accessories that look too big. even the smallest clips on a lot of decora girls are on the larger size of normal.

So, dug some more. GLB4 has a からみジャンパースカート (Karami JSK) that looks like this with different lace. The lace on this one shows up on other things in 2001-ish. So I'm thinking that this is an early Karami, or a re-release of the early karami without lace between the tiers.

Don't even bother, just wear it with a cardigan and tights for a normal cute outfit. It will be ita as lolita.

You can try... but no guarentee it'll look good for lolita.
Here's some posts of someone trying with the black version a couple years back. The comments might be of some help to you and you'll be able to see how it looks with a petticoat.

tl:dr - You'll probably need an underskirt to make it long enough and to turn the halterneck into regular JSK straps if they are long enough. Probably need to remove the embroidery too.

I'm pretty sure this will be a stupid question...

I'm debating on either grabbing a $150 jsk+headbow from BTSSB or just buy a nice inexpensive bodyline dress and wait until when the lucky pack 2016 comes out.

What do you anons think?
>>
>>8704958
Get the btssb set. In the long run you'll probably regret the bodyline dress and there is time to save up for LPs.
>>
>>8704472
>seller is selling something, lets say a JSK for $400
>as the buyer, you propose a payment plan and work out what the seller would like
> Lets say $200 every 2 weeks.
>Seller invoices you for $200, you pay
>2 weeks later she invoices you again for $200 and you pay.
>You've now paid for the JSK and it's the sellers job to send.
>if for some awful reason she doesn't send, you file paypal claims for every invoice she sent.

In my experience, don't ask for a payment plan for something under $100, it's usually for things above $300-$400+ items. Each situation is case by case though, example:

>be me
>seller has been selling set I'm mildly interested in
>message her but pass in the end because priorities
>she's been trying to sell it for weeks
>is desperate, has been lowering price
>she asks if I'm still interested
>not really
>she offers payment plan
>she just wants it gone

It's usually for high price items though. Hope this helps.

tripcodes are put in so that people are recognized off anon, long story short.

95% it's just people being obnoxious as hell and we would rather they not trip, such as voldie or hospitality doll. But then there's trips like chinese gossip, who are actually useful and not attention whoring.

Don't trip, don't stress about it, just keep doing what you're doing.

That's a strangely worded question. If you mean that you can either buy
(a) the $150 btssb set, or
(b) the inexpensive bodyline dress and the lucky pack

But you're unable to do the $150 btssb set and the lucky pack together, then I would chose option (b).

If your choice is actually
(a)$150 btssb set, or
(b) bodyline dress
and you will get the 2016 lucky pack no matter which one you buy, then the $150 btssb set is the better choice -- the resale is better, it comes as a set so no worries about headbow, and the fabric is usually better than some of the printed Bodyline pieces.

Third option, if you're starting out as a complete beginner with zero wardrobe, my personal recommendation is to save up your money until you have at least ~50k yen to splurge all at once on the lucky pack. Sure, the lucky pack is expected to only cost <30k yen, shipping and all, but once you buy the lucky pack, you're not only going to need a pannier and shoes, but you'll also most likely want a second or third blouse, a bolero/cardigan, extra headbows, accessorries, under/overskirt, etc to make a second or third not-so-basic coord with the lucky pack jsk. So you might consider forgoing both the $150 btssb set and the bodyline set altogether if you find it hard to save 50k yen by late December (no judgement here, just suggesting an alternative since I don't know your financial situation).

I should add that the brand lucky packs don't always have a guaranteed decent resale value, one year mbok was totally flooded with btssb tartan sets going for 3-5k yen, because btssb had done 3 different sets in 3 different colourways as lucky packs that year. So just be aware that sometimes even brand sets can be difficult to resell.
>>
>>8705055
Yeah sorry, I didn't make my question clear enough. What I mean was If I should buy the BTSSB headbow+jsk set and buy the 2016 LP from either AP or BTSSB, or save some cash for the LP and buy a Love Jewelry jsk.

But now it makes sense, I guess it's better not to be too excited and desperate for lucky packs.

I'm kind of in a budget and don't have 50k at the moment, and I had to leave lolita for a while because of financial issues, but now I'm thankful that I'm beginning to be hired to well paid jobs now. So I guess I can reach to 50k by December (hopefully).

Thanks to you anon, and to posts >>8704961.

What's /cgl/s opinion on sewing your own dresses/under garments.

Is it a must that a cord be mostly brand?

I always get compliments on my outfits but feel super awkward when being asked what brand I'm wearing and having to explain it's not.
>>
>>8705183
Don't feel awkward about it, be proud of it! If the quality of the garments you make is so good that it's mistaken for brand (Japanese, indie, or otherwise) it's a compliment!
I can't speak for everyone on cgl but I think for the most part, what matters is that your clothes are made of high quality materials, designed and sewn well, and fit you properly. The label (or lack thereof, if it's handmade) doesn't matter as long as it looks good.

You can only order from them through a Shopping service. Fortunately, if you're in the US, TokyoRebel in NYC is an official dealer for them and can order items in-stock on the website as well as on reserve period for you so you don't have to deal with SS fees and international shipping, only domestic shipping I believe. I'm local to them so I can pick up in-store, if you're close enough to NYC this is probably also an option for you.

I think TR will also ship internationally but idk if the price would be worth it by that point especially if you have customs, etc to worry about.

>>8704472
Paypal actually specifically does not cover payment plans. If they find out it was one, you will not be covered.

>>8706883
Secret laboratory?
>>
>>8706859
Anons have written countless etiquette guides and advice, go do some research, search the archives.
It's like you don't even want to get better.
>>
>>8706859
Unless you say or do things that are clearly unacceptable (i.e. asking people who wear/own a lot of brand if they're rich, touching people or their dresses without permission, etc.), it might just be your own feeling. I understand being shy, and it's okay if sometimes you say something that might be a bit awkward because you didn't think it through first, but unless you're straight up rude or invasive I don't think you should worry too much.
Then again I know the feeling of being shy and awkward in social situations so I tend to be more forgiving.

I'm really new to the fashion and at the point where I'd like to purchase my first petticoat. Bell shaped or A-line? Any shop recommendations? What to look for in a petti?
>>
>>8707091
>Bell or A-shaped?
Depends in which style you intend to wear most. Sweet or gothic? Bell. Classic? A-shaped.
>Recommendations:
Burando pettis tend to be amazing, especially AP and Meta. For a cheaper option, go to Malco Moldes.
>What to look for in a petti?
Search for a petti that doesn't deflate easily. You can archieve optimal poofiness by layering pettis, but if your petti deflates quickly you have a problem.

Striped socks look really cute in old school sweet. Animal bags and even carrying straight up bears and things (a bit iffy unless it's for a photoshoot) was also common. You'll want your blouses to have larger peter pan collars and thick cotton lace. For a more authentic look you could style your own hair in ringlets rather than a wig and refer to the makeup from old bible scans (some are on Avant Gauche).

If I ever make an "inspired by" coord based on pic related (or any Orange Caramel outfit desu), would it be considered cosplay? It'd also be my first coord, would it be too "out there"?
>>
>>8715535
Yes, too out there. What ever happened to a nice regular first coord that follows the rules and just looks nice. Walk before you fly. Why base your Lolita stuff on things that aren't even Lolita anyway? Just doing Lolita well for its own sake is special enough. No need to pull unrelated things into it or do mashups.
>>
>>8715535
I don't know about cosplay but I can smell the ita of that coord a mile away. Just either wear lolita or a normalfag inspired outfit of whatever this is. Those colors and patterns would look awful in lolita.
>>
>>8715560
>>8715551

Of course it'd be a proper lolita outfit, I'm certainly not about to go blouse-less and without legwear and call it lolita.

I guess it kind of makes no sense if there's no context to it. In the image, it's cute ice-cream based outfits. So I was thinking going for a pastel print-less OP and adding ice-cream motifs, following one of the color schemes of the video. For example, say I'm going to do the "inspired by" thing for the girl in the aqua and bubblegum pink... I'd do mintXsoft pink, not as busy, not as bright and add ice cream motifs of that color without overdoing it.

I do understand the walk before I fly though, so before pulling a stunt like that I'll just start smaller.
>>
>>8715573
Maybe do a collage using all the Lolita items you have in mind for the coord? Then people can get a better idea of what you mean and you can show your idea in Lolita terms and also get some handy suggestions and advice before you take the plunge and buy items.
