Before I go look it up on the webz, someone here want to explain to me why I should care about a stocks volume and how to tell things by what it's doing?
>>
Also /biz/ can I help you all out a bit with something. Buy a little bit of $HIHO as you can, cheap stock that pays a dividend. Don't invest any money you need to have anytime soon. Just start investing in it as you go and as much as you can afford and you'll thank me one day from a beach somewhere.
>>
>>967129
Volume dictates the general way where the stock is going. If the price goes up and down but the volume is low it's just a fluctuation. If the volume is high - it is a trend and you need to watch it
>>
>>967132
How am I to know if a volume is high, or low.

Will a volume change before a stock price?

Anyone have shares in SYN? Ive had them for a few weeks now and there been very little fluctuation. How likely is it for them to get back up to the $3.00 range and the next month or two? Only asking because it's up 10% today and not sure if I should get rid of it or not.

SYN has a good pipeline of drugs right now. It should be releasing some phase 2 trial data in a conference on December 10. You can get out at around 2.60 in the near future or hold out for the big gains.
>>
>>967139
Yahoo Finance is good. By definition, yes, volume is a catalyst for price action. But you don't look at it that way. You're looking for the correlation between the two in order to spot how it's trending. When you get good at it, you can even tell who's buying and who's selling. That's important too.

Fair warning on TASR, it's a stable stock but it tends to plateau for a while whenever it hits its crest. Been in it twice the last couple of years and it took a few months to make any kind of money off it. That's something to think about considering it doesn't pay a dividend.

Question:

If I put a stop loss on a stock and set it good until cancelled... Let's say The stock is at 1.05 and I set it to 1.00. The day comes and goes and never hits the 1.00 mark, but it goes down over night/weekend and is to open at .95, do my shares sell at 1.00? Or $.95?

The thing people dont understand is that stocks are an investment. The rule of thumb is dont buy it unless you plan on keeping it longer than 10 years.

When people sell for less than what they bought it for it makes me think that they believed they bought it for the highest that the stock will ever be in its lifetime.
As long as you have patience, you have no worries

Don't know your price range but O is the gold standard. You won't make any money buying and selling it, but nice guaranteed monthly dividend. If you want a little bit of both, maybe give CMA a shot. It'll be in the low to mid 50's by next quarter, so you could collect the div (.84 per share) and then sell the stock for gainz. I always try to look for both.

I actually started to buy when such volatility happens.

A market is a gathering of buyers and sellers. So whenever stocks drop like a brick, I start to buy, even though my existing portfolio bleeds.

If it goes up, great, the portfolio is appreciating in value. When it goes up, great, I can buy more stock that I believe will go up in the long term.

I actually don't mind waiting for the dip. The only problems I see is that a) accurately predicting when the dip will happen - though usually it is visible through indices and b) having a good guess when the dip ends or continues. I bought into a couple of stocks lately because they dipped the lowest in a couple of weeks but nope, they continued dropping, even below the price I bought. I guess that is only countered with skillful technical analysis.

Generally I noticed that I am developing a good gut feeling for a stock or an index. Which is odd, considering how much background research I do and ultimately the "feeling" decides on the second to buy or sell.

What do your guys' portfolios look like?
Currently I'm down about $50 dollars over the course of a month from bad investments in NBG and ASTI, also from panic selling AVXL. Unfortunately I psyched myself out of holding both AVXL and ASTI at one point and regret it immensely. I'm just happy that over a month I haven't lost all my money. Considering I only lost $50 i'd say that's pretty good on my side for all the experience and lessons I've been taught doing so.

I think for now I will stick to trading in the biotech market and in the oil and natural gas market in the US. I've had a lot of success swing trading in these markets and this following December I'm planning on making $50 back.

What are your guy's stories?

>BUY AMD
Don't! There's no reason it will continue to rise!!!
>>
>>967705
New CPU series isn't enough?

Fact of the matter is that AMD has been undervalued for months now. I imagine about $4 once the new series comes out, possibly higher.

Get on board now, it's still reasonably priced.
>>
>>967708
AMD CPU and GPU are shit that can't and won't compete with nvidia and intel. Especially during the holiday season when those giants can use their leverage for some holiday tier discounts

My $400 is up 1%
>>
>>967691
about the same, except I'm down from NBG and SUNE. I actually made money on ASTI

>>967601
I can't tell if I'm falling for it or not. The total amount of money I have left in NBG is pretty small at this point, to the point where I'm considering just holding forever on the off chance that it goes back up. Should I be selling?

The difference is budget builds my friend.

The thing is that for $100 you cannot even buy an Intel core 2 duo. Whereas for $100 you can buy an AMD fx-6300.

That's where AMD shines, their pricepoint is unbeatable.

You do realize that not NEET neckbeards make these companies profitable, but rather huge enterprise contracts?
>>
>>967793
Damn, I bough it at 110 and dumped it at 114 on the next week. Well, you never know
>>
>>967834
My point is that it will not die.

APU is getting more and more appealing, you can play low-tier games on an incredible budget now, without a graphics card.

Things like dota, LoL, WoW, everything not-requiring dedicated graphics card can be played quite well. Making it an amazing product for the value, and that's why I can see it having a huge future.

Yes I agree the AMD flagship is about equal in comparison to even mid-tier intel CPUs but the price is not to be undermined.

For the price of 1 mid-tier intel CPU and graphics card you can build an entire working, and quite good computer using le AMD meme
>>
UK Version W H E N ?
>>
>>967841
You can. But the situation was the same for the last 5 years if not more. I'm just saying that the AMD stock price doesn't have a reason for a steady growth right now, because they didn't release anything game-changing to the market
