Wallets are secure. If an exchange is hacked or otherwise compromised you could lose everything if its left on the exchange, but if its in a wallet its not lost. It depends on if you trust the exchange not to steal the coins or not. I'm going to leave mine on the exchange until the swap, probably going to sell after that.
