SKATEBOARDING IS 90% MIND, 10% BODY

skatepark etiquette - go early or go burly

old thread:>>1067685

>>
Been skating for 4 years and have been getting into flat ground skating lately(usually skate vert/tranny).
Learned nollie shuvs and bs half cabs yesterday, what are some tricks that'll help build my board control?
I can already do these
>Ollie
>180 both ways
>fakie shuv and fakie 3 shuv
>heel flips(rarely land them)
>every type of revert up to a 360
I want to build more on being able to make very deliberate motions with my board and body instead of randomly flicking my feet and hoping I land something.
>>
>>1086024
>bs half cabs

it will come in time
get the "basics" down and build your control according to the way you want, there is no right or wrong.

Sewing machine oil seems to work. 4 fl oz is practically a lifetime supply. I got this from Amazon but you can probably find it at Walmart. I've never used Speed Cream though, so I can't compare.
>>
>>1088256
I might pick up some sewing machine oil. If it makes your wheels spin longer than 5 seconds i'm down. How often to you clean your bearings/re lube them?

>trucks:Anchor
>wheels:Antihero 100A(whats the deal with hardness? 100a mean hard as shit?)

>>
>>1088403

Durometers measure how far a pin is able to press into a material as a measure of hardness. 100A says that, while using an A type durometer, the pin was not able to penetrate the material at all. So it's not really a perfect description of hardness, but it does mean it's plenty hard.
>>
>>1088403
100A means they should of used the B scale.
>>
>>1088256
>>1088282

Don't use sewing machine oil, you fucking morons. Do your research. It's not specially formulated for very small moving parts like bearings. It's way too thin and wears off quickly. Use Speed Cream or Triflow.
>>
>>1088282
I used to do it every couple of weeks, then I realized I was wasting my time. Now I only do it after several months, when they get loud as shit due to all the dirt inside.

Keep in mind: if your axles are damaged from landing primo, you might not be able to get the nuts back on. The threads can probably be fixed with a die, but I don't have one so I've never done this.

>>1088496
>sewing machine
>not small moving parts
It works for me. If it wears off quickly then maybe it should be reapplied more often. Anyway, it doesn't matter; lots of people don't even bother cleaning/lubing them at all.
>>
>Home on easter holiday
>going to skate this sick indoor park that just opened tomorrow

I can't wait.

Also when it comes to bearings, I've had the same set of pretty shitty Lucky Abec 3 bearings for probably 3 years now. All I do is every now and then is to get as much dirt off them as possible with an old toothbrush, and get a few drops of dry lube ment for bike chains and gears in there. Seems to do the trick, they still roll alright at least. Probably going to replace them soon though, thinking of giving Bones Swiss a shot.

No its just a scan i saw someone post before and quickly saved because i've never even seen the box in real life. Here is the other side.

>>1088403

I never heard of Anchor trucks, just get Indys or Thunders. A 7.75 board is kind of small, if you have small feet it might not be a big deal, but having a wider deck is going to be more enjoyable for you if you are new to skating. An 8.25 might be more ideal. But any setup is good enough really.

The hardness of wheels has to do with noise, and how well they will slide. 101a is the hardest, easiest to slide wheel. There isn't much a difference until you get to 95, at which point they are softer, and grip better, but are still hard and will slide. All the way down to 92, they are still hard and loud, but the grip gets better and better and sliding is harder, even noseslides become harder. These wheels are great for wooden indoor parks though. Below 90 wheels begin to feel "cushy", like longboard wheels, and are great for being quiet while riding, and rolling over shit ground.

What's the difference between standard kingpin trucks and reverse kingpin trucks when we're talking about flip tricks and such?

I'm a beginner and I built myself a hybrid chodeboard-like thing for both heavy cruising and learning oliles and stuff. Still waiting for the weather to heat up a little so no actual experience yet. Pumped up tho
>>

Chodeboard = skate deck + longboard hardware.

Are RKP trucks heavier than TKP trucks?
>>

I don't know but your trucks seem big and heavy.
If you don't know how to already ollie you might have a hard time learning on these, but don't let that discourage you.
>>
>>1089378
Counting both trucks they add up +200g to the whole board weight compared to indys 149. I don't think that might be too bad. They might seem bigger because of the riser pad though.

So today I found out about a DIY park in the city I'm living in. I decided to check it out; it was secluded in the corner of a school playground, surrounded by construction fences (that were pretty easy to get around. Though it is unfinished, it was hesh as shit. Pretty much all transition stuff, though I use the term "transition" loosely; many of the quarter pipes had tight transitions at the bottom and were more like banks at the top. The park is unfinished though, so maybe it'll get fixed up later. It's still more fun than the standard "plop down a bowl and some banks" park that the city built. Anyways, here's a pic of the DIY park.
>>

That picture might be a bit deceiving; all of those ramps are maybe a meter tall at best. It is incredibly smooth though, and I could see how a transition skater (which I am not) would really enjoy it.

>>1089737
I'm not sure what weird bank you're referring to. If it's the thing in the bottom left corner, that's actually just a really steep ledge. Either way, I didn't really try grinding anything there.
>>
>>1089753
>that's actually just a really steep ledge

then I wasn't referring to it. I was refering to the weird bank that seems to have a jagged edge
>>
>>1089768
Ah, I see. Like I said, I wouldn't try grinding it. I imagine they'll install some sort of coping there before they open the park to the public.
>>
>>1089387
Because we aren't encouraged to do it. We're often pushed in the direction of rap, basketball or the trap lifestyle. If you're lucky, you'll get pushed towards education. Also parks aren't built in black neighborhoods, if they are, they get torn down because of poor funding
>>
>>1088906
Finally landed a BS flip and managed to keep rolling.

Does anyone else feel as though they've reach a trick plateau? I could spend hundreds of hours getting my current tricks cleaner but I really feel like I'm stuck where I am right now and I'll never get another trick. I can't even begin to imagine how I'm going to start skating the next level up.

Indy 131s huh? spotted the thunder rider :P j/p i know what you meant though & i'm sure he'll figure it out

>>1091112

try holding off on your flick until you really feel the tail snap. wait till you feel the snap of the tail through your back leg, then start your slide and flick. if you try to do the motion all at once you do them where you just fling the board and aren't actually popping/lifting your back foot. when you wait for the snap you do more of an ollie and lift your back foot. also try changing the way you're balancing your weight front to back, try centering yourself more on your front foot. you'll feel your flicking foot 'get caught' in the pocket more which gives you time to lift the board and your back foot. hopefully this makes sense, its been a long long time since i had that problem but this is what i can remember worked for me. also practicing them over something, even if its just a chalk line or old t-shirt on the ground will really really help with lifting your back foot.

that's a weird problem. try to flick out, catch and land with your back foot only. maybe you're just scared. i think landing it upside down can get you used to staying above the board, then just flick a little more for the full rotation

Living in Cali, i see a lot of blacks that skate. I don't think black skaters get shit for it any longer because they realize there's moola is involved, which is fucked up to me. Being black and getting belittled for a few years just cause I skated caused me to feel depressed about my identity. I felt like my materialistic cousins dont even care about our passion; just the money and fame that's involved with it.

Good thing I consider the friends I skate with my family.

Our local park hasn't survived the winter and all the wooden ramps are rotten and unridable. We were thinking of making a few new obstacles of our own to make the park fun again.

Do they not have those laying around where you live? In America most people just steal those. Your idea sounds good though.

Pro-tip to make it slide awesome once you have it: get some spray-on clearcoat lacquer. You could apply it after you paint, or before. Paint will work decent but since you're building it to skate you might as well use this shit because it'll make it slip really good.

Like this

They also have buckets of it that you can roll on with a roller/brush if they don't sell those in your country

because you aren't keeping your shoulders parallel to the board while doing the trick. This is a normal problem and is easily fixed. Focus on keeping your body straight and looking right in front of you instead of in the direction the board is moving.
Remember to think of a rolling ollie as absolutely identical to a stationary ollie.

Turn your upper body before you pop. Make sure your weight distribution upon landing is correct so that you can roll away in switch. As another anon said earlier, practicing rolling around switch will help with this.

Your front foot should be like an Ollie type position, your back foot should be perpendicular to the board and in the pocket (see Sean Pablo's back 360s).
