Hey /an/. I have had my dog Nacho for a year now. She is obviously a mutt but we aren't sure and have been wanting to know what she can be a mix of. We think she is a mix of Boxer because of her color, underbite, ears, posture and baggy face. The only thing that throws us off is her size. She a lot smaller than the normal Boxer. Thanks in advance. (will post a few pics)

Wisdom Panel 3.0. $60. Advertised as being novelty, but they're over 90% accurate. And it's just fun. I've used them twice, one for a Lab mix (ended up being a Lab/Chow and we didn't see that coming), and another on a dog we suspected of not being as full-blooded as we thought. And we were right, one of his great grandfathers was a Jindo.
>>
Chihuahua ... Labrador ... hmm. That body structure (aside from the head and tail) is really hard to place. He is awfully short and it's not proportional to his head. Almost like a wiener dog.

oh damn. thanks for that chief. I'm a bit of a cheap ass but if i wanted it to be 100% this would be good! I was just kinda hoping maybe someone here would give me a "cheaper" idea on what she might be haha! Just wanted an excuse to post this pic.
>>
>>2144929
you know, we kind of thought wiener dog also! We were also told maybe some Chihuahua. She stands pigeon toed sometimes. I'm not sure if that means anything.

Here is this. It was at the bottom of my last dog's report. If anyone wanted it.

I got one done on this boy here. Said he was 50% staffie, and the other half was some combination of staffie/golden/basset/some terrier so fucking mixed the test just gave up.

I always fancied him a lab/dachshund, so I am not sure if I agree with it.
>>
>>2144934
He looks awesome. I am really considering doing a test now. So they send you a test, swab the inside of their mouth then send it in huh? I bookmarked the site anon. Thanks a bunch.

Yeah, this is the one for the Lab/Chow I mentioned earlier. Absolutely clusterfuck of a mutt. And the picture doesn't do the report justice for how in detail they go.

Yeah they send you an envelope with 3 swabs. You get the saliva, cap them, fill out some basic information (name, email address, etc) and send them back. Ours (both) took around 4 weeks. Then they emailed us a link to the PDF report.

... another for the supposed purebred.

Yeah. That is it. Swab their check, register some shit on their website, and send it in. Prepaid shipping and crap. If you have another dog, they can't have had water from a shared source, but all that kind of shit is in the instructions.

This is what the test results look like. Surprisingly detailed. They even give you a breakdown on what the great-grandparent mixed breed could be (said it was 70% terrier or something).

It is fun if you have the dosh to spare. I wouldn't recommend it otherwise.

what was your dog advertised as being? any pics? he sounds like he'd be cute if he's part jindo

She's the one on the right. The smaller on the left is 100% full blooded with papers. You can really only see her mix in her face. She was advertised as pure Great Pyrenees. The breeder straight up lied about basic questions like if she had her double dewclaws on both back feet (breed standard, and she doesn't). But the time she was flown out to us, our only recourse would have been to sue. It was just too much work.
>>
>>2144954
She looks like a qt pupper, so I am sure she is a very good girl even though she isn't a purebred.
>>
>>2144934
Could you post another picture to get proportions of the body and relative size. Looks like a sweet dog.

Yeah, I mean, we like purebreds ("why" is another story), but it's not that big of a deal. And she has been just fine. She's laying on my foot right now. She's very sweet, but stubborn and independent. Which is par for a Great Pyrenees. I just don't advise any 100-lb women to get a giant, stubborn dog. Sometimes getting them where you want them can be tricky. The smarter they are, the worse it gets. And she is way too clever for her own good. Here she is as a puppy.
>>
>>2144954
they're both so cute. i really love pyrs but i'm afraid of getting a large, stubborn dog. how has it been having not one but two? how do they behave?

also to my knowledge i thought removing dewclaws was a good thing because otherwise they can get caught on things and break off, causing damage.

i also think the whole breed standard thing is a little silly. different countries have different rules. it's all a little arbitrary and not always in the best interest of the betterment of the breed, which is what the people running the show claim to be doing. just look at german shepherds
>>
>>2144962
holy fuck that's so cute. how has raising pyrs been? specifically when it comes to training and their behaviour
>>

Well, only the girl is stubborn. The boy (the one with badger spots) is much more of a people-pleaser. The stubborness of the girl is a bit of a daily battle. It manifests as something like inconsiderate distrust. We can get her to do all the 12 essential obedience commends - but not "come." She will not move her body for someone else. Even just going outside. Open the door, and she'll waddle around sniffing at stuff and glancing at you for 10 seconds before deciding she'll head outside. We've just accepted that she is on her own time and will come when she's ready. Only when I'm in a hurry will I grab her collar to move her, at which time she gladly trots beside me to where I guide her. The whole thing is just weird. She is incredibly well-trained. Just very independent. It's my understanding that this is par of Pyrenees.

The boy is just a bedtime cuddle partner. He's like a Labrador, if a Labrador had 1/10th the energy. Pyrs are really low energy and slow movers. We actually took the girl to the vet at 10 months old because we thought she was sick when her energy plummetted like a rock. She was just growing up.

The dew claw removal topic is really just opinion-based. We decided to leave them in because they do actually use them. You could see how having 2 toes on the inside of the back foot is great for scratching their belly. They are also attached to bone, not just flimsy like they look. There's other reasons, but it'd be a long post. Everyone has their own opinion. Ours was to leave them alone unless something happened since their environment is low-risk and removing them is more likely to cause problems than leaving them in.

>training and their behaviour

I have 2 very, very different dogs. The girl has herd-guardian in her blood so she's stubborn but incredibly smart. I had her trained up with all the obediance commands at 16 weeks.

The boy is not a herd guardian. He would fail at it. But that failure is what makes him much more of a people-pleaser unlike the girl. He is eager to learn, but not smart enough to do it quickly.

We haven't had any behavior problems. They are, again, really low energy. So they're just not anxious to screw around and get into trouble. They just law around all day. If you're an active person, this dog is not for you. That said, like any dog, their behavior and personality will depend on the blood line they come from. My girl and boy came from different breeders, and you can tell. For the boy I specifically requested one of the outcasts that sucked at herd guarding because me wife wanted a more loving dog and the girl dog was not cutting it.

For more on the training thing, see above. The only issue we had was stubbornness with getting her to relocate at our will. "Place" came naturally to her. Lazy shit wasn't gonna move anyway

interesting thanks for all the feedback. i wasn't aware there was such a thing as a low energy dog haha

i think i will try and get a corgi for now and down the line maybe get a second dog. maybe a pyr or an italian greyhound :3
