Starting three days ago, one of my new hens will squat in one position when I try to pick her up, instead of shying away like the two other new girls.
What is this all about? I've only had them for about a week.

You're fucking this chicken, I'm just holding it.
That means she's low on the pecking order. Probably on the bottom to be honest. No joking she's being submissive because thats what gets the other hens from bullying her as much. She's just acting as if you're another hen higher on the pecking order.

Even chickens that are on the top of the pecking order do this. They think you're going to mate with them because when you start to pet them around the neck or so they'll lift up their rumps readying for a better position to mate, and roosters usually grab the feathers of a hen when mating.
