Ask the shelter, they know that individual dog best. That's one of the standard things they test and a perfectly reasonable thing to ask if they don't.

If you find a decent dog behavourist. anything is possible. We went to our obedience class last night and they had a dog their that acted as an alpha and basically chilled all the other dogs out just by ignoring them and if they didnt take the hint there were some air snaps.

We had about 12 dogs in the hall and the mood just dropped from tense to relaxed after that, really interesting for us and our dogs.

To be honest most shelters are dumb 20 something lesbians lying about their dogs breed to get them adopted out with little concern to whatever occurs after that.

i got a shelter dog recently with a similar description. hes a doberman. hes a saint to me and people that i permit into the house, but as it turns out, he hates everything that is not himself or me. dogs, cats, bushes, cars, humans, bicycles, the trash can, everything. incessant barking, intense aggression. i guess what im trying to say is be prepared to take him to a trainer or behavior modification specialist (which we will be starting this weekend). i love my dog, but hes a loose cannon, and considering his breed, hes quite dangerous. i cant even walk him anymore, even in the dead of night, even with a muzzle. hes just too pissed off. at least i know that hes got my back though, and anyone that tries to enter my house without my permission will get its throat ripped out in short order.
