My snake has had a bump near its tail for the past year. She seems happy and otherwise healthy but I am concerned because the end of her tail is much thinner than the rest of her body. Does anyone recognize this?

Better focus
It's a little garden snake I found in the backyard so I don't want to take it for a 60 dollar vet visit just to find out its normal.

Has it grown in size at all?
The snake has grown, the bump seems to fluctuate in size but it doesn't completely go away.

Could be a bad cyst, but you say he doesn't mind it. I don't think it's a tumor cause you say the size fluctuates.
Poor snek, how old is she?
another of natures mysteries.

I've had her for 3 years but she was born in the wild so she might be older.
any chance its a clutch of eggs? Or would she have lain them by now?

Why aren't you replying to individuals properly? First day on 4chan?

Kind of, sorry if I'm not doing it right. I figured there was a small chance of good advice if I posted here.

Well this is a very slow board. I'd say you have about a week before you should give up on this thread. I don't know a lot about snakes, I only come here a couple times a week. I know there are some vets who do the same, because like I said it's a slow board.
Are you from reddit?

It looks like a northern brown snake (Storeria dekayi).
I'd take her to the vet.....it's definitely something, and needs to be dealt with
Could be a few things. My bet is on cyst since you said the size varies, in which case it's absolutely harmless for the most part but you can get removed if you really want to. Could be a tumor, but this is unlikely given that you've had her three years and the size fluctuation. Could just be a birth defect and as long as it doesn't bother her it's fine. Could be an old injury since she had it when you found her and the size fluctuation is just inflammation going up and down. If it's an old injury it's well past the point where it could be treated. So you're left at a point where you need to decide if you feel it's worth taking them to the vet for an answer when it's long past the point where if it was a condition that was detrimental you'd know/she'd be dead.
>taking wild snakes for pets
>not knowing what species it is
>not knowing how to care for it
>thinking garden snake is a thing
>refusing to AT THE VERY LEAST take it to the vet when it's obviously suffering
God, I fucking hate humans.
