Honestly, people in general really suck at animal care for anything that isn't a cat or a dog.

Proper crate training is when you train your dog to be comfortable staying in a crate for a couple of hours. It can be abused if you leave your dog in there for most of the day.

People tend to sperg out about crate training because they assume that every dog can be left on its own with no issues

While I agree with this, I must admit that I've grown afraid of paper wasps in the last years.

It's pretty strange, considering I never used to be afraid of them. The only bad experience I've ever had with them is from when I, as a stupid eight year old, decided to poke a nest in order to see if it was in use(don't worry: the nest was not permanently damaged). As stupid as I was, I still realised that I was at fault, and the event did not cause me to grow afrain of paper wasps.

Yet in the last few years, I've become extremely afraid of them. I don't have any problems when they mind their own business, but as soon as they turn their attention towards me, I lose all control of my body and start running, even if I'm in the middle of a bustling street.

Pic is from last summer. Since they didn't pay me any attention, coming close to them wasn't a problem. However, a few seconds after the pic was taken, an ant disturbed them and made them scatter. That really spooked me.
>>
>Anon, it's cruel to make your dogs do all those tricks! It's not natural for a dog to do that!

Training does not equal abuse. And while maybe shaking and begging isn't natural, i'm sure as fuck that they sit and lay down with or without being told to do so.

doesn't even need to be a crate. A bed will work just as well if the dog is properly conditioned.
>>
>>2083827
I'm curious. How do you keep a dog in its bed for 8 whole hours while you sleep, or while you're at work?
>>
>>2083850
it becomes a comfort for them, something they will actively seek out. it's just a lot of conditioning when they're younger.
>>
>>2083850
Wat. Why can't you just keep your dog in your house while you're asleep or at work? You're dog isn't trained well enough to do that? Plus I don't even think you're supposed to keep a dog in a crate for that many hours.
>>
>>2083877
It's supposed to be an adjustment thing, once you trust your dog not to wreck things you don't need to lock them in the crate, it's just somewhere they will naturally seek out and stay on their own.

Same with spiders.
I leave spiders alone, unless they are around my birds, then I just scoop them up in a cup and piece of paper and take them down the block.
They go away eventually, they eat bugs and stuff, and they mean no harm. They're pretty cool in my book.

I only crate my dog when he's sleeping. He's my first dog, and I've heard that I should get him used to the crate just in case I ever need to board him. He has run of the apartment when I'm at work. I was lucky enough to get a dog that doesn't wreck the house when I'm gone.

>instinctively use dens
They haven't used dens for 10,000 years. The only sort of "den" they're interested in is one of those plastic ones that provide a private, comforting place.

If you have to regularly shove your dog in a crate, you're doing something wrong. It should serve the sole purpose of "Hey, for whatever specific reason, my dog needs to be in a crate for a few hours at most or overnight" not "I need to lock my poorly trained, under-exercised dog in a cage all day while I'm at work so he doesn't chew things." Also:

>people shoving their dogs in cages or "time out" as a punishment while yelling at them
>surprised when their dog throws a fucking fit when they're left in the same crate overnight/while they're gone
>>
>>2084648
I'm not saying people don't fuck up the care for a dog or cat, but they know the barest basics even if they don't actually follow through. Anything else, and you get people not aware of even fundamental basic care.
>>
>>2084659
That's true enough. It's really only dogs people know the vaguest shit about. Even though dogs are still owned by 60% autistics, cats got the worse end of the stick. Cats are "just a cat" and most people will do absolutely nothing for their cats just because it's so widely accepted that "not a dog = it's not a real commitment; I don't need to actually care for it"
>>
>>2083902
Here's how I fixed it
>let dog stay home alone for first time
>purposefully leave food within his reach bUT in places he knows he's not allowed
>he breaks the rules, of course
>correct with simple firm scolding, saying no allot and hooking him on the runner for an hour or two
>do this again, but with nothing he can get to,house is as it would normally be.
>come home
>nothing has been disturbed, he's chilling in the living room
>we kept the tv on and he crashed on his bed while watching TV

I used to be extremely scared of wasps and anything that looked like one as a kid to the point of panicked crying and flailing around when I spotted one of them. That was until I was 11, I wasn't paying attention and a wasp got stuck in my hair and started spazzing around. So I think "what is this wierd tingling sensation by my ear" and move to scratch when the stupid cunt stung me right in my temple. And ever since then my fear had been replaced by anger.
I now have to restrain myself from picking a fight with a wasp whenever I spot one.
>>
>>2085096
why would you be afraid of wasps.

I've been stung to the point that I couldn't move for several days and looked like Quasimodo (stepped on a nest several times) and I'm still not afraid of them.

For the purposes of dumbing shit down for people unfamiliar with inverts, opposite is good enough.

you've been looking at too many scolopendras.
>>detrivore, rotting plants/carnivore
centipedes are omnivores, millipedes are omnivores as well.
>slow/fast
millipedes can be pretty fast.
>venomous/poisonous
they're both toxic.

can't remember about the legs per segments but it's probably a load of shit like the rest of your post.

>Having a problem with outside cats
There are at least 20 outside cats around where i live and not a single person complained about it
And it is always nice to have friendly cats to pet around
>>

>How can i fuck up my pet even worse
They become aggressive and dominant when it is breeding season. If you do not let them breed the aggression will be kept built up and they eventually lash out.
If you neuter them this doesnt happen
>>

>and not a single person complained about it

because they're all clueless to the damage they do or simply don't care.

if you let cats outdoors you're a ego-centric asshole.

I only had pet fish when i was a child and because i was an idiot who knew nothing about fish, 2 of them killed the other 2 somehow.
But even though they looked cozy, i never understood, why would someone have fish as pets?

Do you live in a place where all cats are niggers?
>>

Because, as far as I understand anyway, putting a layer of anything with a drastically grittier under a layer of substrate isn't going to improve the drainage of the substrate. Water is a clingy bitch and so, what happens to substrate laying on top of gravel is the same thing that would happen to it anyway: the substrate gets saturated with water beyond its holding capacity and the water drains down until it's below that threshold again. After that, water exits the substrate by going up, not down, be it via evaporation from the surface of the substrate (or porous pot) or the plant's metabolism.

What adding a "drainage layer" to a pot does, then, is simply take up space in the pot, making the situation pretty much equal to the substrate being in a smaller, differently shaped pot. That's actually bad for drainage: there's a reason why pots tend to be way narrower at the bottom than the top! If you want to see the reason why with your own eyes, do a simple sponge test by soaking a normal rectangular sponge and hold it up flat. Wait it to stop dripping water, then flip it on its side ... And watch the water start pouring down again. With more surface area, water has more to cling to and so it takes more water to go over the threshold and start dripping down than if there were less surface area.

TL;DR: Because adding a drainage layer just doesn't work, not like it's intended to.

>Do you live in a place where all cats are niggers?
yeah I live on earth.

they cause billions worth of enviromental and propety damage, cats are the single most destructive pest species on earth, they're worse than cane toads and black rats combined.

You should stick with cockroaches

it only applies to non-human animals you dip.

Holy shit this drives me crazy. I live in louisiana and every fucking turtle is a snapping turtle according to local dumbasses that make up most of the state population. Ill show them a picture of a fucking alligator snapping turtle thats the size of a couch cushion and they either think its fake or that the tiny little musk turtle is just a baby

The garter/garden snake thing happens often enough but I'm just happy they are close and realize it isnt a cottonmouth or copperhead and leave it the fuck alone instead of cutting its head off which is what happens to 9/10 snakes people find
