i'm looking for some advice. i love salamanders, i a currently looking into getting some but i have a few problems.
1. i'm from Washington state so i dont know where i can get my hands on any. (standard pet stores say its illegal to stock them, so if there are any salamander enthusiasts in Washington on /an/ right now i would love to here where you got yours)
2. i only have experience with reptiles, i have a 3 year old bearded dragon, so if i can get some advice on keeping amphibians in general i would appreciate it.
also salamander/newt general
there just to adorable

Pretty sure they aren't illegal. But there's a ban coming soon to the USA (on the 28th I think) and imports from non native animals and inter state trade will be banned. So try to find someone in your state who breeds salamanders, and go from there I guess; you won't have luck in any other way.

the caudata.org forums or expos are your best bets at finding salamanders.
important to note is that many salamander and newt species prefer it colder than room temperature, so research whether your species needs cooling and what humidity they need.. salamanders usually also live pretty hidden lives, so don't be surprised if they burrow themselves for a few days.
Those are some cute salamanders anon but let me introduce you to the cutest.

I'm planning on getting Cynops orientalis soon (chinese firebelly) but the piece of wood I have sticking out of the water seems to have some fungus growing in it, is this a problem or nah? Otherwise the tank is almost done cycling.
Fucking hell. I can't find the image. But a few years ago I was walking home. Moon was on full blast and I lived in a heavily wooded area and it was lighting everything up. As I was walking along the road I spy a salamander. Maybe 4-5 inches with I think I remember white or yellow dots. I live in Kentucky and all I have ever seen were the little small ones with the orange stripes

Bumping with this pic of Lissotriton vulgaris that I always find at the end of summer/ autumn in my garden. Pic was taken by a friend of mine

Hypselotriton orientalis, not Cynops.
Either way, the wood shouldn't get moldy. It shouldn't be a problem, it just looks bad :^)

I'm not that up to date on the latest name changes, even the store I'm going to get them from still labels them Cynops :p
I've also read that the mold should probably go away when it runs out of organic matter to process, so I'll just wait a bit more.

Hopefully soon, depending on that mold

That may have been it.
