So, /an/, can you help me prevent yet another bad pet owner story?

It isn't my business since I don't live there anymore, but my parents just got a kitten. Neither have taken care of cats outside of childhood.
Firstly, they intended to have the kitten declawed. There is no way around this, apparently. Neither are good about daily maintenance and I get the impression they want the cat to use the dog flap instead of a litter box. Also, considering how obese and poorly mannered their current and previous dogs are, I worry the cat will end up the same way.
I'd like to say something, but even typing this out makes me sound really rude and condescending. Plus, my mama isn't the type to listen to facts or logic anyway- no matter where she hears it from.

What do you think would be the most effective thing to do?

stop judging your parents.

they managed to keep you alive for at least 18 years, they shouldn't have any problems with a cat.

Nah, I got pawned off to family and neighbors a few months after being born.

Meth heads also manage to raise kids, I wouldn't be handing out awards to them though.

why? they're ten times more productive than you are.

That was an excellent insult. Good job.

Look up and print out one of those sheets that show what declawing actually does to cats. Many people are not aware that it involves removing a whole knuckle and not just the nail
