I tried to explain the importance of feeding high quality food, and that since he's a growing kitten he is going to eat a lot and needs to in order to mature not only physically but also in brain development. They didn't seem to listen to me and basically brushed off all my advice about nutrition and care for their cats even though they came to me for advice.

Almost every dog we had when we were young ended up hurting or killing cats because my family never trained them right, so it's just something to keep in mind.
I did have one puppy that I got at ten weeks ol who actually learned to play with my three month old cat, but he was a rare case and smarter than the average mutt. He learned bite inhibition really well and learned to play gently with the cat as he got older.
So just keep an eye on your pup and how they are playing.

Eh idk, I've had both at same times and my dogs were usually pretty big but they never hurt each other (unless the cats didn't want to play in which cases I can assure you the cats were not the ones in danger).
But I don't really know if my opinion can really have some value since all of our big dogs were English Setters ('cept for an Irish one who we have currently) which are pretty calm by nature and rarely bite.
Even when they play with each other they don't playfully bite each others which is a thing I see a lot with other dogs (especially our little one).

I'm 98% sure she just want to play, she does that pose with her ass up in the air and sometimes she even brings him toys. The cat really doesn't want to, though. He hissed at her a couple times when she came too fast, often he just freezes and pretends to punches her. Good thing he's a good and nice kitty, he hasn't used his claws yet.
But she only does that when the cat's running around the house, when he's sleeping, she just leaves him alone. And when she calmed down from seeing new people and the cat, she often leaves him alone too.

The cat usually instigates. He also has plenty of places to get away when he's done, usually jumps on the bed and the dog will stop trying to play with him. I've never heard the cat yell or cry either.
