Why are ostriches classified as birds instead of mammals? They have everything to be a mammal and almost nothing to be a bird.
>can't fly
>heavy
>tall
>runs very fast
>has red meat
>doesn't make chirping, screeching or squawking noises
>eats a lot
>is kept on barns and not on aviaries
The only thing it doesn't have in common with mammals is that it doesn't produce milk to its offspring, but who cares anyway, platypi and echidnas lay eggs.
>>
>>2016805
Do you think bats should be classified as birds too?
>>
>>2016808
Bats don't have beaks and feathers, so no.
>>
>>2016805

>nothing to be a bird

>feathers
>>
>>2016809

But they are small and light. And they can fly. Some of them have excellent vision, and they chirp all the time. They live in huge groups like birds and fly in similar formations.

So by your logic, bats are birds.
>>
>>2016813
They dont chirp they squeak.

Are you a "scientist" from the middle ages or something?
>>
>>2016813
Except bats are literally mice with wings (talking about behaviour and appearance), so they're mammals. Now, there's literally no non-ratite bird that can compare to an ostrich. The closest one would be the penguin, but only because it's fat and can't fly.
>>
>>2016819

Bitch, don't move the goalpost.
It's stupid that ostrich would be considered a fucking mammal and the same goes for bats and birds.
>>
>>2016822
But bats are mammals.
>>
>>2016827
And ostriches are birds.

mammals might have one or two of those things, but when you find them all together you've got a bird or some other dinosaur.

Ratite "feathers" are more akin to fur/hair than they are to actual feathers.

>Ratite "feathers" are more akin to fur/hair than they are to actual feathers.
other than being made from entirely different proteins and having evolved from feathers.

so yeah, they're more similar to fur than feathers just like OP's ostrich is more similar to mammals than birds. AKA not at all.

Ostrich (Struthio camelus)

>Phylum Chordata
>Suphylum Vertebrata - Has bony or cartilaginous cranium surrounding tripartite brain; well developed head with paired sense organs, usally with vertebrae; heart with multiple chambers; muscularized digestive tract; paired kidneys
>Class Aves
Because, OP, Ostriches fall under the characteristics of the Phylum Chordata and Subphylum Vertebrata of the Class Aves which are Endothermic vertebrates with front limbs modified as wings & their body is covered with feathers.

Other characteristics of the Class Aves are
>neck elongate and S-shaped
>Epidermal covering of feathers and leg scales; thin epidermis and dermis; no sweat glands; oil gland at base of tail
>Skull with one occipital condyle, many bones with air cavities; ribs with strengthening, uncinate processes; tail short, caudal vertebrate reduced to pygostyle; pelvic girdle a synsacrum; sternum usually large and keeled
>No teeth; each jaw covered with keratinized sheath, forming a beak; gizzard present
>Brain well developed, with large optic lobes and cerebellum; 12 pairs of cranial nerves
>Eyes large, with pecten; middle ear with a single bone
>Separate sexes; internal fertilization; copulatory organ (dick) only in paleognathids
>Fetal membranes of amnion, chorion, and allantois; aviparous; eggs with much yolk and hard, calcaereous shells; extensive care of young
>Excretory system of metanephric kidneys and ureters that open into cloaca; uric acid main nitrogenous waste
>Lungs of parabronchi with continuous air flow; syrinx present; thin airsacs among visceral organs and skeleton
>Heart with two atria and two ventricles; separate
>Heart with two atria and two ventricles; separate pulmonary and systemic circuits; persistent right aortic arch; nucleated red blood cells

And thats why OP.

Also, OP's a faggot.

Why are penguins the cutest birds, /an/?
>>
>>2016805
Because they dont give birth to live young or produce milk, which are two of the things you NEED to be a mammal. The other two being warm blood and hair/fur.

>giving live birth is a mammal thing

While your other points might be true enough, this is actually false. Firstly there's the monotremes: mammals which lay eggs, so clearly you don't NEED to live birth to be a mammal. And secondly there's quite a lot of non-mammals which give live birth, a fair amount of sharks live birth and also some reptiles such as the shingleback skink.

Mammals are tetrapodos with tits (mamas).
Birds are Saurios who got feathers then using to hunt by jumping until they start planing and finally singing..
Singing in fancy children shows.
