My cat is about 24 years old now. He's been in amazing health, still runs around and hunts mice in the house and everything. He's been deaf for a few years now, though. Recently, his ear has been oozing this really funky waxing buildup- we clean his ears regularly, and this is beyond the normal ear wax. Don't think its mites, but scheduled for the vet later this week. Any ideas what it could be, and what treatments I can do for him in the meantime?

get it checked.

There is probably an infected cut in there. Carefully wipe up as much as you can with some q-tips, try to keep it clean until the vet appt, keep her/him from scratching at it.
>>
What does it smell like? It could be mites, a bacterial infection, yeast or a fungus.

Mites would be my first guess followed by infection. Have vet confirm

Yea, been keeping it clear, kept a sample of the guck for the vet.

Smells awful, like pus. Definitely an infection or something.

I know. Its ridiculous. He's my age.

yea, thanks

Ugh, it is just seeping out and reeks like all hell, you guys. What do?

Looks like a bad ear infection, take to vet, your vet will most likely clean all the gunk out, show you how to clean the ears, then administer a combination of oil, and antibiotics. You will then be given said solution which you will need to give your cat everyday after cleaning its ears out with cotton balls. I only know this because my cat had her yearly on Friday and the vet found she had an ear infection.

sounds like an infection. cotton balls & hydrogen peroxide. definitely take him to the vet... he's old as tits but it should be an easy fix for the vet.
>>
Did you take your cat to the vet op?
