Who /falconry/ here?

That's an eagle, Anon
>>1995593
it's a brown recluse.

Never done it, but my grandad kept kestrels and Harris hawks I've always wanted to have a bird of prey, but apparently they're just dumb. A mate of mine had trained his to fly out of his car on a country road and fly back in with rabbits, I'd be into this.

It takes so long to get in to, and takes too much time while learning.
I dont know, this is a hobby for retired people.

Harris hawks are awesome, they're smart as hell, you can train them to hunt with dogs and ferrets. Kestrel are tough because their so small that it's harder to keep them in flight weight. I've been doing this for a few years as a volunteer and >>1995633 is right a lot of the people involvd are retired

Are pigeons less effort?
One time in my small school they brought some falconry peeps and a great horned owl decided to land on my shoulder instead of it's caretaker.
>it hurt like fuck
>but i didn't budge or flinch because it was cool as fuck
>wasn't even scared because it was so boss

I want to use falconry for fishing, on horseback
>>1996035
I've interacted with two owls my entire life, one was a great horned, the other a barred. I got to pet the barred owl, and I have to say, it seemed far more intelligent than the great horned. They were both still magnificent animals.

You're gonna want an osprey for that

hard to get in murrica
How is your bird housed when you aren't using it? What does it do for enrichment?
I think falconry is cool, but I had a hard time justifying caging and controlling such a cool and powerful animal.
>>1996298
I would build a bird dome if I were rich
but most people just keep them in cages that are about the same size as backyard sheds
>>1996031
pigeons cant hunt
the point of falconry is to hunt

this thread reminds me of this
Not OP but I came to post the same thing and ask questions.
What would you recommend for some tips when first beginning?
I live in Maine and know where eagles and ospreys are for catching and taming one when the time came if I got my license.
>>1996298
Caging and controlling uncool wimpy animals is cool, then?
>>1996487

It's a fad meme for edgy teenagers.
