Is that a staffy? My mother is thinking about getting one, but since my brother already has a dog we're worried they might not get along. Do you know if socializing it well and early works?
>>
>>1978281
What breed is that?
>>
>>1978282
Honestly if I were you, I would check out a shelter that does fosters in peoples homes. They have a better grip on the dogs personality because they've had hands on experience with them, plus the shelters are FULL of pit/staffy mixes. That, and you won't have to go through the puppy stage again.

If you do go the pure bred route, just make sure you find a good breeder that's got some records on their animals and good references.
>>1978285
Some kind of bully mix. I don't have any of my good pics on this laptop, but she looks like every other pit mix you'll see. The people we got her from said she was half pit, half lab, but I think they were lying about the lab so they could get rid of the pups. We just didn't care at the time.

I've had enough dogs before to know breed doesn't always guarantee a good or bad dog.

>>
>>1978423
Possibly. Sounds like a typical case of people not socializing/taking proper care of their dog. To me it sounds like it was very protective/aggressive of it's home and area, and possibly didn't want to go back as well. The nipping/biting as you were walking away is a sign that it didn't want you near it's property.

I think you guys did the right thing, but you should always be cautious with dogs you don't know and just (if you're going to grab the dog or get a hold of it) try and use a leash or rope so your hands are not in danger of getting bit.

If you see that particular dog out again, I would call animal control to come pick it up.

I got up this morning after a terrible sleep, and found she had shat everywhere, well, at least most of it was at the door (she knows to go outside to do business, at least she tried).
So I chucked her outside and started cleaning up, shit was dripping from most things.

Outside she was in a good mood, having gotten whatever it was out of her system and seeing her human so interested in her this morning, and happily wagged her tail. Fanning shit all over the decking/windows and outdoor dining.

It took me about 2 hours to clean her and the mess up. She still is the best thing in my life.

Hi, I think your dog mite be a kye-leo -- half Llasa-Apso and half Maltese. They are an official 'rare breed.' I had one named Chico for 14 years (adopted from a shelter in Houston) and he was a wonderful dog -- a big flirt, smart, funny.

She's old and grew up around dogs, so she tolerates him. He's very gentle with the cat and doesn't chase her at all, he's more interested in his toys and people. He's really just a big baby that loves to cuddle.

Thanks anon. They are such great dogs. Never been a small dog kind of guy, but she was special. She was more on the Type B side, but not quite as stumpy legged. Somewhere between the two. Her legs shrank quite a bit as she aged. That or her gut started hanging a bit too low. She was a few pounds overweight.

I have a question for shiba owners.
Do male shibas have a strong tenancy to take on that stockier look as they age, or is it more dependent on their lifestyle?
I'd like to adopt the breed, but I love the toned and slender look of the dogs, and wonder if that aesthetic lessens heavily in males as they age.
I suppose the question applies to females of the breed, as well.

first time on this board so if I'm doing the wrong thing just let me know

recently got my first dog as an adult, I got a German shepherd who was 19 months old at the time and the owner couldn't care for her anymore (I just don't think he wanted to, the state she was in, but that's another story).

Anyway my question is food related. The vet thinks she should put on a little weight but everywhere and everyone I talk to has different ideas on how much to feed her

basically just trying to find a pattern here so I don't try and overfeed her or god forbid underfeed her. The packaging on the food I have for her is suggesting between 400-600g per day but it seems so little, does that even sound like enough? Just lack of experience I guess

anyway, pic related is Rosie. she's a big wuss but people are scared of her

Coat must be why I didn't recognize it. How is it around other dogs?
>>
>>1983516
It depends on what you are feeding her as well as how much. I find that if I always keep my dogs food bowel full that know that it always there and just randomly eat though I have seen some dogs scarf down everything they can.
Get a good brand of food.
Fill up a bowl and see how much she eats during the day and adjust from there.
Also make sure she gets plenty of exercise
>>
>>1983520
No problems around other dogs. He loves to play. The only time he has fought is when the other dog was the aggressor.

it's really better tbh, it's like with any other animal, being lean is recommended. of course not starving your dog but certainely that approach that it's bad for GSDs, malinois, and other working dogs to be "that" lean is complete bullshit, they're originally not very large, and pretty lean naturally.
over feeding just contributes to health problems and promotes dysplasia in earlier age

>>
>>1987355
How in the fuck can anyone claim something so preposterous?
>>
>>1987376

Because normal "protective" dogs do not randomly attack every other dog on sight.

That's flat out aggression or fear.
>>
>>1987378
Real protection is usually something that has to be trained in, and when you train it in, you normally include an off command, so any dog that has to be muzzled all the time in public is almost always outright aggressive.
>>
>>1987378
Where was it claimed that he attacks every other dog on sight? He's protective and doesn't let dogs come too close, he wears the muzzle as a precaution. At home he's good with our other dogs.

But I guess bashing certain breeds because they can't fit in a purse is a norm for you.

Okay moron.

Firstly, you're confusing protection with fear. He's not protecting you, he's worried about himself, don't be a retarded owner.

>as a precaution

So he's attacked other dogs in the past?

>At home he's good with our other dogs.
Yes and at home he's not scared and around the same dogs. That does not mean anything.

>But I guess bashing certain breeds because they can't fit in a purse is a norm for you.

Lol you're a fucking faggot, is that your response when someone makes a comment about your dog? I was basing it purely on the comments you made, i didn't even look at the photo.

>>
>>1987400

>"not him"

You sure?
>>
>>1987396
All dogs above 15kg have to wear a muzzle as required by law here. If I tell him to behave, he'll ignore the other dogs, but there is always a risk of other dogs running up to him. So he wears a muzzle.

He is 9 months old and I've had him for 4 of those months. Of all places I thought /an/ would be more sympathetic to adopted animals, but I guess "ausfaggots" and normies ITT would rather see a good dog die than be taken care off just because he's had a tough life.
>>
>>1987411

Lol

>implying I said any of that

Oi you little bitch. All I said was that I agreed with the other guy about the irony of a dog with aggression issues towards other dogs that has to wear a muzzle being "the most affectionate dog".

>>1987411

But then again, what to expect from a namefag who, accordingly, calls himself a "fag".
>>
>>1987383
So he only bites dogs he can reach?
>>
>>1987418
He never bit anyone or anything, but I could claim that if one rushed to his side that he wouldn't. But I know enough to see a change in his behaviour when he sees other dogs. Not other animals, just other dogs. He's good with horses, cows, cats, guinea pigs etc.
>>
>>1987417

So basically shut the fuck up and admit you're being a big cry baby.
>>
>>1987421

Where do you live that dogs have to be muzzled?
>>
>>1987430
Isn't it mandatory everywhere? I live in Serbia. Communal police fine people in ranges of 50 euros to 500 euros depending on where you are caught.

Medium to big dogs are required to be muzzled within city limits. Outside the city limits and in determined areas they can be unmuzzled but leashed.

Japanese Tosa.

Fila Brasileiro.
