Anyone here own a skunk?
How are they as pets?

I would like to have a domesticated skunk. Illegal in my state though. Fucking lame.
Prone to obesity and diabetes, can get seizures fairly easily for being fed wrong, they are never full so you HAVE to portion their meals every day, always. And they will throw a tantrum for more (which is stomping and huffing). They are stubborn as dicks and will get mad at you (not mean) if they don't get their way
They are not biters but can, they use the litter box really great but not as good as a cat. They love love love being held, hugged, snuggled, and pet everywhere but the tail. They bond to you as close as a dog.
They will dig, a lot, so carpet is very bad for pet skunk. Also my girl dug a hole in the wall one night because she could smell a hornets nest in it and she ate them.

Your skunk sounds like a badass.

Shit, now I really want one.

Do you take out some glands so they can't spray or something?

Damn! Yup. Mark me down as definitely needed a skunk now. I can fix drywall.

>Biters
>No approved rabies vaccine
And that is why they are illegal to own in most places.

The vaccine that works on ferrets also works on skunks.

Most breeders take out their stink glands before they sell.
I kind of want a skunk. In Oregon they're legal, but iirc only to buy, you can't actually sell one. So it makes it hard to get one because you need a permit and have it registered too. I think I'd have to drive to Idaho or somewhere to buy one then bring it home and show paperwork. It's a real hassle. Plus I can only rent, and no landlord will approve a skunk.

Why would you remove that sweet scent? Skunk spray smells like nature.

I didn't know they were legal in Oregon. I was thinking about getting a second dog but I've heard skunks make great pets and I own my house. I wonder how they do around dogs. Anyone know?

it doesn't matter that it works.
If it isn't legally approved then you can't have a vaccinated skunk in the eyes of the law.
meaning if it bites someone it's going to die whether it's vaccinated or not.
foxes have the same problem. There are vaccines that work on foxes but none that are legally recognized last time I checked.

Thats a cutie

Raccoons and squirrels are legal too in Oregon. But again you have to have permits with fish and wildlife and prove it's not sick. Look into it for the details but yeah I was surprised to see all these animals are technically allowed here.
I wanna european badger
they look so docile and chill compared to their counterparts
