It seems to have gotten worse in terms of troll/bait threads but I don't think the advice has gotten worse since it always seemed to suck.
It's almost like /r9k/ the way that bait threads are the most replied threads.
A few points.
The OP has a responsibility to filter out what advice they want to follow, and what is bad advice. There is good advice, you just need to look for it.
There are always going to be trolls, especially in an anonymous environment such as 4chan, and you can't blame the whole board for the shit advice that's doled out.
Many, if not most, OPs here have already decided what they want to do, or they already know that what they want to do is a bad idea. They just want validation. That's assuming they stick around, many OPs make a thread and then disappear.
There's a hide thread button. If you don't like threads or just aren't interested in them, hide them. I have about 80% of threads hidden at any time.

Almost every query gets at least a couple of serious attempts to help. You just have to sort through all the trolls to find them. (One hint - they tend to be longer and more thought-out)
Agree. Been lurking here for years off and on, sometimes every day. Just recently started using a trip if I post, most commonly if I start a thread. Can confirm the opie has already made up his/her mind and just wants validation part. Although sometimes I make a thread and I'm genuinely on the fence about something, and need to get a push in the right direction.
This board used to always make me sad from reading so many unhappy stories. I don't know why I stick around. The rare times I can genuinely provide advice, I do
I genuinely try to reply to new threads created, granted that they aren't troll threads or asinine questions. I often leave constructive advice and criticisms, but even then I notice OP's never returning, or the threads simply die out with one reply. It does seem like most people simply reply in the larger threads just because they are larger.

I think you are correct, a lot of anon's do fall asleep, or move on to other activities for a while. The simple explanation is simply that this board is slow as heck. It can sometimes take a couple of hours before getting any advice, and even longer for threads buried beneath the usual drivel.

I've gotten excellent advice in /b/. As for /adv/ it helped me realize I'm not the only person going through my issues and confusion, which helped me. It also helped me clear up some misconceptions I had about etiquette and socializing.
I once wrote stuff about the difference between how men and women decide who they want to date, and it gets posted every once in a while if it's relevant.

What trolls often fail to understand here is that even the most idiotic threads can actually have meaningful answers, advices that may change or even save peoples lives. They just need to be seen by the correct people or their friends.
