how do i get into stocks and investments?
Go and see a financial advisor.
That said, $10k isn't actually that much.
Open a 401k, and let others invest it for you.
A 401k can be used without penalty to buy a first home (and a few other things, like medical expenses), so it's not a bad place to sock money away even at your age.

Yep. Investing it isn't going to yield that much of a return either. Plus you won't get to enjoy any of it for awhile.
Personally, I would just put it in a checking account and use maybe a grand or two on stuff you want then spend the rest of it very very sparingly and have it as mostly a rainy day fund.

If I were OP, I'd buy anything large-ish that I'd wanted for a while, and if I wouldn't need the money in the foreseeable future, then put the rest in a term deposit, rather than a normal account.

I thought about a CD but my luck has also been I end up needing a couple thousand for something random. Plus I already have a decent 401K set up. Another investment would be nice though but with my luck...
>hospital bill about 7 years ago - $3,500 cash, no insurance an they wanted $7,000
>DWI last year - about $7,000 total

10k isn't much of an investment, realistically speaking. I suggest you pay off any debts, and then get insurance and use the money to pay your premiums. If there's one thing you should spend your money on, it's your health.
