I bought a cat to hang out with me in my room while I played vidya and watched movies, but now he just goes downstairs and plays with my parents. Occasionally he comes up and takes a big shit in his litter box, though.

Want your cat to hang around you all day? Put the food and water in your room. Always give it treats and shit at random intervals during the day. Toys and whatnot.
Your cat will probably start to annoy you because of how clingy its become and you'll want to move the food back to it's original location so you can be left the hell alone again.

My cats love me and give me a lot of affection, but they clearly prefer my girlfriend because first of all she is less jittery than me, and she spends more time lounging around.
I play with them and feed them, but I'm too active to really cuddle with them.

I do. bowl, water dish, and litter box are in my room. Also bought him a preeetty dope kitty jungle gym, if I say so myself. It's about 6 feet tall and has all these holes he can climb in and all these toys he can play with attached to it. I'm free-feeding as of right now, just to put a little weight on him. After this bag of food I'm moving to monitored portions 2 times a day so he's not eating and acquiring maximum power levels in the middle of the night
