How do I combat my tendency to mentally tune out and become quiet

How do I combat my tendency to mentally tune out and become quiet when meeting people? Makes me really awful at first dates, flirting.

I think it's my brain's response to anxiety. Sometimes it even happens with close friends and family if I've been feeling stressed.

unless you want to warn them and ask them to reign you in, its up to you. you can set your phone to give off an alarm very ten minutes to 'snap you out' ofi t and remind yourself to stop being like that. but ultimately its up to you to will yourself to focus

You could try pushing yourself out of your comfort zone. Some people recommend throwing yourself into the deep end but I recommend taking it slow. Go to places that make you uncomfortable, Maybe talk to your friends and family about it and ask them to help you. My doc told me to distract myself from the situation. It helps a little bit for me.

Have you tried having some alcohol? Too much will make it obvious but having just one or two beers might make you talk a little bit more, even if it's about random bullshit.
