That's not how birth control pills work. They are essentially estrogen tablets.
If OP's gf already ovulated then there is an egg there, so it's safer after the girl bleeds the egg out. There is a period after menstruating when the lining falls out where there is no egg to impregnate, this is also the best time to start birth control. A girl ovulates roughly 10-14 days after the lining has fallen. If a girl is on her birth control, the ovulation won't produce an egg, but then again women can ovulate more than once a month so it's important to always take birth control and never miss a day, because if the one day she ends up ovulating and produces an egg, then you're fucked.
