I am a girl from Canada. I have a childhood penpal from Japan and I am traveling around Germany and Austria right now. Is it a good idea for me to ask her what sovenirs she want? We mail each other presents every year and I think gifts from Europe are more special than gifts from my homeland. She has never been to Europe before.

Also, is it ok if I send her travel photos and videos? I don't want to sound like I am showing off.

In Japan, souvenirs apparently are quite popular, so you should definitely ask. If it sounds like you're showing off, then it's most likely the way you're telling her about it. Try "I really loved seeing xy, so I wanted to share pictures with you so you experience a bit of it as well" instead of simply shoving it down her throat in a less pleasant manner.
