What is the first job someone typically has when following a career as a database administrator? What title should I search for at sites like Indeed.com? Does anyone have a flowchart like pic related?

My first job after uni was as a DBA.

Those are never, ever accurate, and I wish people would stop spreading them around like fuckwads.

A DBA is just somebody who deals with SQL and NoSQL databases all day because nobody else fucking wants to. So get really good at SQL and something like MongoDB. And get really comfortable working with linux server software and things like Microsoft Server 2k12, Active Directory, that sort of thing. You're probably going to be handling a lot of that stuff too unless you work at a big company.

Everyone always jokes about DBA being the worst computer related job. I wonder why it's so hated. I don't get how SQL programming could be less boring and repetitive than C++ or Java as a software engineer.

As a Java dev, I honestly can't fucking imagine how boring it would be to administer databases, refine queries, unfuck databases that stupid devs like me fuck up, do backups, etc. That's why DBAs get paid so well.

the flow charts suck. Comptia sucks. Money is in management, "security" is a bubble.

Network and interships if at college. Otherwise just look for DBA jobs and go from there.
