Just started to play go. Any tips on how to get better other than just practice a lot?
Trying to get good at go is more futile than trying to get good at chess.

Play with people who are at your level or are better than you.
give up because a machine is already better than you anyway
go play Quake Live, Unreal Tournament 2007, or Cube 2: Sauerbraten as these are the only games where you can beat a robot and they are harder versions of chess that require the same out of your intellect but also demand you to perform strategies with ability. Plus its way more fun.

After some bunch of games played, when you start to see ataris and snapbacks and such well enough, consider starting to quickly review all your games afterwards and analyze your mistakes.
Just playing might not expand your move repertoire enough for good progress. Books and pro games will help a lot with ideas.
