I do not understand international laws and this is keeping me up at nights
if you get arrested online, you get arrested in real life

The US has a lot of influence with other countries. If it's a serious crime, they can easily have you extradited to the US and tried there.
It might not be the US police that arrest you, but it will be some US department doing the investigation.
