Need some advice...
Is this illegal?
My uncle wants to claim me as a dependent, because the state is wanting to reduce his SSI payments. The thing is, I live like 30 miles away and have never lived with him. This is the same guy who once tried to get me to let him use my SS number in order to find a job.
He keeps saying it ain't illegal, that he'll take me off as soon as I get a job (I'm in college right now), but my spidey senses aee tingling.
Yes it's illegal. If you are not dependent on him and you knowingly give your SS to him so he can get government $ fraudulently then you can be convicted of a felony. WTF has he ever done for YOU?

You're an adult. Stay the fuck away from his antics. You don't want to fuck up the beginning of your life with the mistakes of his past.
Don't let him fuck up your track record, what he's basically doing is identity theft. And by complying you're just as guilty of fraud.

Yes it is illegal. He has to be able to prove he provides more than one-half of your living expenses for the full year.
And believe me, when he suddenly develops a college-age dependent that was never there before, the IRS is going to be curious.
Nice shady uncle you have there. Tell that dirtball to fuck off.
