It depends on the area- the best way is to have some accountability.
Like if you're doing it with sex, talk to your partner BEFORE you start doing things. Ask them to help you stop when it's time. Come up with methods of cooling down.
For example, me and my boyfriend abstain. We keep some ice water next to the bed before we make out and when I need him to cool down, I tell him to drink some water.
It's a lot easier for him to get himself to drink water than to "stop" when he's in the heat of the moment, and by the time he's done sipping from the water he's paused long enough to have calmed down to the point where we can take a break if we need to.

As I have stated before, the term of marriage used in the bible differs from what people regard as marriage these days. The bible didn't state that you gotta go to a priest or an institution to get certified as a married couple. The term of marriage used in the bible is way closer to relationships than to the aforementioned.
